Im a big fan of strapping my helmet on. It could make the difference I'm walking away or being a Tomato the rest of their life. But hey to each his own
Not sayin you SHOULD do it but leaving your helmet unstrapped in a offroad hillclimb enviroment can make sense. Not that uncommon that helmets got stuck while drivers went down the hill ending up with broken necks. It´s a matter of believe really.
So my dad was in CAMC (Charleston Area Medical Center) back in 2008 following an accident at our home. We were there with him for 49 days, 35 in ICU. During our five weeks in the ICU I was amazed at the number of ATV accident victims that were admitted. A nurse told me "Yeah, you only see in the paper about the ones that get killed, you don't ever hear about all the ones that get permanently maimed, brain damage, broken bones etc. Weekends are the worst". She also said one of the ortho doctors said "As long as there are trampolines and ATVs, then I've got a job". Those five weeks pretty much convinced me to never get on one of these vehicles. (btw, dad did recover and made it home).
Well, you’re missing out. Just because some people aren’t responsible shouldn’t dictate what you do in your life. I’ve been riding dirt bikes and ATVs for 40 years; some of the best times I’ve ever had are riding off-road with my father from elementary school until my late 30s. Wouldn’t trade those moments for anything.
Do you drive or ride in a vehicle places, or walk, or eat food from a grocery store, or that you've grown? Anything can and will kill you, the question is when and how? 🤔
@@raoulduke3770 We're doing the same thing with our boys. I've been riding over 35 yrs. My wife started 3 yrs ago and our boys 12 & 9 both started when they were 4 yrs old. Now, we're having the best times of our lives..... Since my wife started, we've been to a TON of different systems including Hatfield & McCoy's last year! It was an EPIC ride!
To each their own, but ive been around them for over 30 years and the only time ive seen serious injuries is if your going fast or doing something outside of your skill levels. Ride safe , smart and respect the land and you will be okay. Dont just talk shit about something because you seen what happens when the operator is negelegent
To those who say the helmet came off too early, it was rigged enough to catch the weight of the four wheeler, so it did work. That 650 would have hurt with full weight on him…
And that, kids, is why we wear head protection. Looking “cool” by not wearing a helmet can get you killed in accidents like this. Humans are very squishy
quads are for fat and stupid people, sorry. But statistics will support this. Tubby man gets flattened by his own vehicle and proceeds to pursue it regardless.
@@answerace you are walking for the quad provided it doesn't kill you when it rolls on top of you. Dirt bike usually lies flat against the hill and stays put. Happened to me when I was riding yesterday. Went up a steep hill, tired to jump a downed tree, lost control after going over the tree and fell downhill. The bike stayed put. I actually had to walk up hill to get to it....then ride it down.
I don't ride ATVs but i like this insight, same thing with lowsiding on bikes, it's better to commit and maybe make it than chicken out and make it a whole lot worse.
@@richardmoreno5160 yeah, don’t panic is the way I’ve rode down lots of steep ass hills. PA pipelines, one was extremely rocky with big watermelon sized rocks and lots of leaves, the other is just loose dirt because it’s smaller and lots of people use it as a shortcut, but one time we were all going down it in a group and I started fishtailing (tiny bike moment (xr100r)) and saved it, my older cousin who’s a way better rider than me was behind me and he said he thought I was going down for sure and he was trying to figure out how to dodge me lmao I got a bigger bike now though ☺️
This is the issue with quads, they seem to wanna (follow) you when you go down. Seen more people get hury from them getting crushed then the actual accident. I will stay with dirt bikes
Statistically many more people suffer severe injuries and hospital visits on dirt bikes than ATVs. Atv's are very stable and people who roll them simply are either being stupid or doing what it isn't designed to do.
@@bigamigo4863 I feel like there's a grey area in the statistics because dirt bikes are just harder to learn how to ride and your gonna go down way more times then a quad in the beginning . The everyday joe can jump on a quad and start riding pretty easy. That's not happening on a dirt bike. But all the people that I've seen get hurt pretty bad have been from quad accidents . And I think it's just because it gives alot of people to much confidence early and them something happens and they don't know how to correct. Anyone that thinks there gonna jump on a dirt bike and not go down is fooling themselves especially just learning how to ride. But quads have a different vibe to them, seen a ton of people jump on that have never been on them before and start acting over confident after 3-4 hrs on it cause they think they have it figured out. And then bam accident
@@zeuscasey It's just boils down to simple physics, 4 wheels on a wider base are more stable than 2. To say dirt bikes are safer than 4 wheelers is really an erroneous point because they are designed to do different things. If you use a 4 wheeler for what they are designed to do they are very stable and easy to ride. Either one of them is dangerous but by default dirt bikes are meant to go faster and are literally engineered to be jumped ....that in itself is inherently more dangerous. The stats are simple, when riding dirt bikes (how they are intended) and riding quads (how they are intended) quads are without question safer. I've done both my entire life and have seen many, many more people seriously injured on a dirt bike than a quad. Both can be safe, it's 100% about the rider and what they are doing with it.
@@bigamigo4863total crock of crap. Yes injuries happen on dirtbikes, but way more severe injury and deaths occur on utility atv’s like this simply due to significantly heavier weight (700 lbs +), and false sense of security on 4 wheels. Most atv’s will go just as fast as dirtbikes if not faster. Most severe injuries on these things happen as a result of being crushed under its weight….. this dude is lucky to be alive. Sorry but simple fact, google it. I’ve also ridden both my entire life.
This is exactly why I buy used wheelers and dirtbikes. I'd hate to see my $12,000 wheeler tumble head over heals down a mountain side. Atleast the heartache of a $2,000 machine doing the same wouldn't hurt AS bad
No it’s called this is why you don’t buy used quads or dirt bikes cause of this reason. This accident was totally avoidable he stopped completely 3/4 the way up a steep hill and was turned sideways the handle bars left of course it’s gonna roll it’s a tall/heavy quad with a short wheel base he should of stopped at the bottom to turn around or go all the way to the top and turn around on a flat surface common sense this is just stupidity and a poor rider
@soldierofliberty I think you're confusing "used" with "totaled" Do you also carry that same logic when you pass by a used car dealership? Like seriously you aren't that stupid right? Hopefully a joke that failed.
Before people start putting down ATVs and talking about how dangerous they are, accidents happen in every walk of life. They happen climbing ladders they happen walking up and down stairs. They happen walking down the street. They happen riding bikes. They happen driving cars etc… and like a firearm, they are no more dangerous than the person riding or shooting one.
Ill never understand people that drive atv instead of mx. If u crash with an atv and it hit u, there is a very high chance u die. Especially compared to an mx.
I flipped one similar to that once. Had to walk 3 miles out of the woods with a chick I took riding and a broken collar bone! Like that fella was lucky it didn't break my neck!
Still amazes me how many people just don't know how to ride ATV's and think they can just rip it. If you're gonna sit down like your on the couch just stick to groomed flat trails.
Hey there, I've used your clip in my compilation, feel free to check it out. Thanks for letting me use it! BIKER GOES FLYING | BIKE, MOTORCYCLE CRASHES & CLOSE CALLS 2022 [Ep.#16]
If these people would actually learn how to ride off road and buy a dirt bike instead, they'd have a lot less injuries. And the trails would be in a lot better shape.
Hello David! How are you? I would like to know if you could authorize me to use a portion of this video for the "Observations in transit" frame on my channel. if you authorize me, I'll be leaving the due credits to your channel with the name and link, I await your response, I'm with you!👊❤
TRAIL 94 Went up on a double black diamond trail last year and on the way down nearly lost my girlfriends dad the hill was so steel and rutted out we had to walk each atv down with somebody standing on the back of each one or it would flip forward sketches shit I’ve ever been through and at that I was on a brand new 2021 rancher I thought I was gonna lose it never went back I will always do the easy trails from now on and I’m 23 all I could think of is my son at home but thank the lord we all made it down safe other then my girlfriends dad he almost lost his Honda 300 and the guy who was behind me was on a huge king quad and at that on the way done my girlfriends dad lost his breaks so we had to tie him to the guy in front of him who was on a can an outlander 570 that damn quad saved are asses
Friend our got his son a little atv for kids. Kid wore his helmet. My dad told me I wasnt getting one because theyre very dangerous. Sadly the friends kid got killed on that little atv. Helmet on and lifeless. Neck broken. These machines are tools not recreational toys.
i would gladly climb a hill like this on a quad or snowmobile without a second thought, but once i crash or flip on that hill ill always second guess myself on that one spot. anyone else the same way?
