@@TheBestAlien I mostly made an assumption. Most Malinois I know are or have been police or military dogs. They've mostly replaced German Shepherds in most roles.

Malinois are preferred for military service work these days. They're just as smart and as strong, faster, more agile, better suited for adverse environments. When I was overseas we had a gsd and bm that'd rotate going on patrols with us, I always preferred the Mal, anouska, because she took up a lot less space in the truck and was more playful and friendly. Bill, the gsd was ornery and more stubborn, didn't like pets and since he was bigger, made the truck a lot more uncomfortable. We primarily took anouska with us if we ever had the choice. They both did their jobs well, and I know anouska retired and went to a good home, never kept up with Bill.
