Remember black and white television, being hungry, being cold, no money, second hand clothes.....BUT that was life for many, and little pleasures were, in fact, enormous...You cant miss what you never had or knew, but boy, you can appreciate what you DO have, so much more.

Brian Ferry - a coal miners son from northeast England 🏴. The boy done good. Great music which I've enjoyed for over 40 years. My wife and I went to Newcastle City Hall a couple of years ago to see him perform. He is still cool, collected and a great singer.
I've always absolutely loved this song, it's so beautiful both lyrically & musically...it so encompasses the 80s to me. Definitely one of my top "happy/sad" songs!

Similarly, I was introduced to Bryan Ferry by this beautiful new student to our high school, Vina. We were 18, she was my best friend and I fell instantly in love... we went to universities 25 miles apart, hung out all the time, I was with her when her baby sister died and her world fell apart - she went on to study medicine in Holland, and I moved back to the Caribbean - and even to this day, even though we drifted apart so very many years ago, hers is the only face I see when I play this song - she was my first true love.

Vejo esse tipo de comentário por aqui e fico até um pouco triste (risos). Tenho 17 anos e confesso ter uma certa inveja dos que nasceram no começo dos anos 70 e viveram a adolescência nos anos 80. Os filmes da época, o mundo em geral, e principalmente as músicas, que em minha opinião foi a melhor época musical de todas, é minha favorita. Queria muito ter vivido essa época.
E como eu gostaria de ter vivido este tempo. Desde criança digo para minha mãe que gostaria de poder ter o privilégio que ela teve, em ter sido uma jovem adulta vivido nos anos 80, a década explosiva.

Bryan Ferry is absolutely amazing, he has a voice like no other and always dressed to kill, there will never be anyone to compare to him, absolutely outstanding, l remember walking into the Speakeasy in Wakefield and Slave to Love was playing, makes me want to cry, bring back those wonderful times.

Do you like Bryan Ferry? I've been a big Roxy Music fan ever since the release of their 1979 album, Manifesto. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too experimental, too avantgarde. It was on Manifesto that Bryan Ferry's presence became more apparent. I think Avalon was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on human relationships. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceeding two albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Ferry, Hubbard, Newmark and Spenner. You can pratically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to More Than This. In this song, Ferry opens up the doors to his soul and expresses his desire to capture a particular moment in time. There's a sense of beauty that is undeniable in the message. Jealous Guy is the most moving Pop song of the 1980's, about insecurity, regret and as the title indicates, jealousy. Ferry takes a third class song from the vastly overrated John Lennon and makes it his own, with a heartwarming performance. It's as if the song was written for him. Bryan Ferry's solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like Let's Stick Together and Don't Stop The Dance. But I also think Bryan Ferry works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Slave To Love, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
@@adrianmendezolmedo5191 Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
My dad played this when we were headed home from the countryside earlier this month, there was a very beautiful sunset to accompany it and it honestly felt like a movie scene. I just wish the traffic hadn't been there to truly enjoy it! LOL. Lovely song.
