Steelers fan here - wanna give y’all some of my opinions on dj18 First off, I was a little sad to see him go. He’s a diva, yes, but he was a flat out baller of a route runner and made entire offensive concepts work at times. When he’s engaged, he’s dynamic and hard to stop. Pros - Top 5 nfl route runner High end (but not top tier) speed and route running Will make some nuts plays, whether that be catches or yac, from time to time (once every 3 weeks or so) Really dynamic chess piece for an oc Can be a reliable target for a young qb and a “qbs best friend” He has a knack for football. Some guys just have the know how that others don’t, and he’s got it Cons - Diva mentality. He’ll get mad, shut down and whine, and check out. The thing is, when he does this, he doesn’t communicate with the oc or qb or anyone, so it becomes friction. The fumble that everyone and their mom talked about last year where he just looked at it and walked away was an extreme, but he had a diva moment at least every 1-2 weeks When he catches in breaking balls, he’ll do whatever it takes to be elusive for extra yards. Sometimes, relatively frequently too, he’ll run backwards if he sees space. This leads him to getting caught from behind He can’t really block all that well, although he will try and give effort He has focus drops. They’ve dwindled significantly over the years, and if my memory serves he didn’t have any last year, but they’ve defiantly plagued him Fumbles can be an issue. He doesn’t do it often, but going back to that trying to be Barry sanders typa style, it can get him into trouble For whatever reason, the end zone is hard for him to get into. Over that last 2 seasons he has 2 (I think) touchdowns. That’s probably more of a Steelers offense problem, but it’s worth noting Overall, I love dj18. I think the Steelers did the right thing to move off him, but the potential for him to work out in Carolina is high. He comes with his problems, but he comes with some positives that are super positive. If y’all get him consistent touches and keep his diva personality in check, y’all got a damn good player. His bust potential is also sizable, but if I had to bet on stats, I’d put a lot of money on him racking up 800+ yards, probably more.
Let me ask you this? You were speaking of his throws rolling outside of the pocket... Do you think he does that so often, to be able to see down the field?
I can't give you a definite yes or no, just because last year there was blame to go around everywhere. The play-calling sucked, no matter who it was... The o-line had way too many injuries. Which I think forced Bryce to panic and not play like him self... Plus all the injuries the receivers had, so they couldn't get the timing right with Bryce. Just all around bad, but I promise you this. This year it's no excuses if Bryce plays bad... I'll be saying it first.
@PanthersAdvice I feel ya. And I'm truly not pointing out flaws. Just curious on your take as to why he rolls out so much. Even when protection were good, I've seen him roll out. Just curious if you think that may be WHY he's doing that.
