Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming sing "Wheels of a Dream," from Ragtime. This is one of my favorite musical theatre pieces.

Two of the most beautiful voices of today together. This is wonderful. Thank you.

Two great singers here. The thing is, they come from, and have been trained in, the operatic tradition, and not the musical theatre - there's a difference. Arguably, they don't need the microphones but are using them purely for the recording, and not out of necessity for the audience. Bryn, by the very power of his bass baritone voice, can overcome the orchestra, as can Renee - a lyric soprano who, by definition, should overpower the orchestra too. Lovely song. Thank you for uploading it.

They are having a blast... that's what gives it energy. They are beyond amazing... that's what makes my hair stand on end. ; ) I Love it. Just take it in folks, don't worry about what other performers do while you're watching them, they do what they do... these two rock the bones and boil the blood and it's fun. Jeeeezzz just enjoy it.

I'm sorry, but I love this. The high c at the end is show-offy, yes, and magnificent. This is a concert to show off their voices not a staged play. I too can be nit-picky sometimes, but this ain't bad at all.

I saw Audra and Brian Stokes Mitchell in the original production and they brought the house down with this number. I have tickets to the revival in October and can't wait. What a great show and music.

Any singer, male or female, should aspire to be like Bryn Terfel. He is magnificent in anything he does, and his diction is faultless - in any language.

I hadn't heard Audra and Brian S-M disliked each other. You certainly couldn't tell it with their performances, which is as it should be. The revival is powerful but doesn't approach the original. At least audiences will get another chance to hear this beautiful score. I agree that nobody can touch Bryn Terfel.

Lucky you! I "saw" Audra (a fav of mine) and Brian here on RU-vid. I understand that Audra and Brian disliked each other! Both have such magnificent voices. I do think Audra was better than Renee . . . but no one can beat Bryn.

@ajasyd Really? Do you know most Broadway singers? Because I am a theatre singer and I know very many theatre/Broadway singers and MANY of us are classically trained singers who have found careers on B'way/theatre stages in the US and around the world. Every B'way show does not require this type of training or singing. It doesn't mean the singer CAN'T do it, it just means the show does not require it.

@TheKymil pronunciation issues? Both Terfel and Fleming are accomplished in vocal diction, which takes away any impure vowel sounds, such as "chewing dipthongs" or extending mixed vowels. I must say, I do love Brian and Audra, but this is a video of real veteran singing experts, as opposed to "actors who can sing" (although quite well). ajasyd is also very right about their projection.
@BirdmanDeuce26

@ginoseast123 They may be using microphones, but they're certainly not "eating" them compared to typical singers. Look how far they are from them! I don't think we should consider this rendition in terms of "talent," and should instead look at this as a song being interpreted by different instruments. We shouldn't necessarily expect classical operatic singers to sing EXACTLY like the originals - that would be unfair to anyone. Tyrfel sings this wonderfully for a Welshman.
@saxamaphoneguy1
@saxamaphoneguy1 13 лет назад
@ginoseast123 Well if there were no microphones, we wouldn't be able to hear them. It's called the magic of modern recording equipment. I guarantee that audra and brian use microphones on stage, while I've never seen a microphone on Renee and Bryn on their professional performances.

The first syllable Audra McDonald sings in this same song she does a ya sound. It's annoying and I quit listening to her. I think being a trained Opera singer, I am too picky. Streisand is the absolute worst technically speaking. She puts an h in eheverhthing! It's LOVE not LUHUVE.

I respect your opinion. Keep singing, Listen to Bryn, Dimitri, BSM. Opera is only what you put into it. I have sung in more theatres and in more countries than I care to list. Learn your languages and most importantly, get a good agent who's more talented than you. There is good work out there and there is a bunch of crap. There are pop singers who could buy classical radio stations with their pocket change. For an American singing Bel Canto in English and doing it well, is the key, Peace.

I would hate to hear your CD collection. It would be hell from what I gather. Passion, drama, subdued emotions, nuance is not part of opera as most people know it. Most opera singers sound ridiculous singing anything in english. This art form is fading from the scene because they don't know what's real anymore. Bryn understands this a little.

Great performance of this mediocre song. These stars should sing only "I Talk To The Trees" ('Paint Your Wagon'), and anything from "Kismet" (Borodin/Drake). BRAVI
@pluper222
@pluper222 15 лет назад
Because Bryn has a little bit of soul and Placido sounds ridiculous. Singing a bit of english every now and then exposes a lot. Listen to Thomas Hampson sing in english, that guys pretty weak. Brian Stokes Mitchell on the other hand is great.
