My first ride on this machine, as witnessed by the steering damper needing slackening off, was to get some fuel, in readiness for going further afield in order to make sure all was well before deeming this machine fit to go home. The early signs were encouraging.

Nice work Paul. Life’s good when the weather is fine, the roads are dry and empty and the motor purrs along like that.

No oil light, no oil gauge. No worries. It would be interesting to compare the oil pressures on this engine to those on the green bike that you featured with suspected oil pressure problems.

Never tried a a65 .I have an a10 and think it looks better.

There are several different looks for A65's, some are better looking than A10's to my mind.

What grade oil do you use in the primary? Also do you feel timing side needle bearing conversions are unnecessary?
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 Год назад
20/50 mineral oil, same as the engine. I had to rebuild the bottom end of a needle roller converted engine once, to sort out worn big ends, so I have no problem with a timing side bush.

It sounds lovely, and looks good too, even with that screen of a poof chariot, how does it compare with your thunderbolt?
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 Год назад
'Poof chariot' - I like it! The two Thunderbolts actually feel very similar engine wise, although mine has a stronger front brake.

What is the high pitched whine from the motor. Sounds like a mag/dyno noise. Trying to think what would cause it but can’t think of anything on an A65. Certainly a nicer sound than the one it had before!
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 Год назад
Some do it - it comes from the timing gears being a very close, but not overly tight fit.

I'm intrigued by the white, red and green pyramid on the approach to your nearby main road, plonked on the traffic island. What is it please?

In Wales, we have an event called the 'Urdd Eisteddfod', which is about poetry, music, recitals etc and it is being hosted at Llandovery, just 4 miles away this year.

Great spirted ride on a true classic Beezer. Can you strip a rear wheel Smiths speedo drive to replce drive ring?

Thanks! I believe so, but have not done so myself

@@paulhenshaw4514 I still look at the chrome cosmetic TLS dust cover on front brake as a challenge to risky to pry apart after 30+ years.

I don't see why these guys don't have crashbars on the bike. The guy who won a brand new Intersepter dropped it on his first ride and the bike looked like someone had taken a power grinder to the whole right hand side of the bike. All that damage would have been mild if he had a crash bars on the bike.

Great job.Some are of the opinion that the BSA twins vibrated more than the Triumph's of the period. What is your view? Thanks !
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 Год назад
Hi Herman, most British twins will vibrate more than they should, thanks to being not as well set up as they should be - and there are more than one or two of them about! This A65, and my own are relatively smooth. I have experienced some rather harsh examples of Triumph twins over the years, before putting them right!

The British used to make so much good stuff.Match box cars,Dinky Toys, all the great British motorcycles and cars they used to make. Now they make nothing. Such a pity.

Do you allow for the fuel and adjust timing 3.4degrees ish??...on strobe?
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 4 месяца назад
I have never felt the need, I just time them to the original specs and it works fine.
