BSA A7 short test ride after changing timing cover bush.

An oil leak from the back of the timing case where the dynamo fits in led to a partial strip of the timing side, to replace the bronze bush in the inner timing cover, which turned out to be the type used in the crankcase and consequently scrolled for oil control in the wrong direction, which led to oil accumulating in the dynamo drive portion of the timing case. The correct type of bush was fitted just before this test ride, which, so far suggests it might have cured the leak.

Lovely. I was not into the old looking/sounding/riding experience until recently when I got my self a Royal Enfield Classic. Man that thing is sublime, so comfortable with no stress and a great sound to it. thanks for the upload mate.

The A7 and A10 sounded lovely, were reliable and handled better than most of the other bikes of the day, but were let down by things like felt washers and cork gaskets which made oil leaks inevitable. I still dream about finding my old A10, and your Shooting Star ride brought back some nice memories of my younger days and the empty roads which were our "racetrack". Thanks Paul!

Nice one Paul. Another classic out in that stunning Welsh countryside with a lovely roarty exhaust note when opened up 👌- music to the ears ! Sweet as a nut when ticking over. A shame it's probably going to have to come apart to sort out that crankshaft endfloat. Stay safe 😷. ATVB from sunny Malaysia 😎😷🇲🇾

I do love the sound of the British twins, The different marques have slightly differing tones, usually think Triumph has the highest note followed by BSA then Royal Enfields Iinters (the original ones) Then Norton. But love them all.

First class video, as for the ride I bet it has new Hagon suspension front and rear, replacing with NJB or the likes will do the trick. Had a long chat with Hagon about there shocks on a Kawasaki ER5 they told me having no static sag was normal, dam shocks had me out of the saddle. Colin Chapman had it right soft springs and quality dampers
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 3 года назад
Thanks, Nigel. Those were Dot rear shocks and they were on their softest settings. As for the forks, I suspect there was no oil inside them and the external springs were screeching and groaning, probably lacking grease, I would think.

It does indeed seem to go well, but that was with the crank end float and a very worn exhaust valve guide and recessed valve seat, as it happens. The engine is currently going back together, after the owner wanted it fully stripped.

My first ride on a BSA with an A-10 motor. I liked the gearing. Sorry for the rough ride.

Tidy Beesa. Runs nice and idles really well. Shame it need a complete tear down. Just throw some thrust washer inside the bushing. She’ll be fine, haha.

Thanks, to be fair, the owner was on to it and brought the replacement bush with the bike - I just had to change it.

That's an awfully pretty BSA, and clearly proves that one need not necessarily have more than 500cc to enjoy a trouser-soiling good time. Man, she sounds sweet, too!

Nice sound except for a repeated bang which I have no idea where it came from, was it from up shifting gears?

That is just down to how the camera processes sounds as it picks them up, it can be heard in most of my 'ride videos'.

Great ride is that ticking noise just cus it's an alloy head
@paulhenshaw4514

Possibly, it might even be a result of the highly sensitive mic on my camera - it 'hears' all sorts of things I don't hear at the time.

Nice old thumper. Rounding that corner and seeing that big yellow bus must have been a surprise. Is it really as scary driving through the hedge rows as it looks? How wide are those lanes?
@paulhenshaw4514
@paulhenshaw4514 3 года назад
That yellow bus had my kids on, coming home from school! I expect all sorts along that road, there was muck and a big stone on it today [6.30] and on one occasion [on video], a farmer had put ropes across the road in that location to cross animals from one gateway to the other and I just spotted those in time! The yellow bus was quite a mild one compared with that!

I notice that your camera sound gets really upset, especially on the engine overrun....it sounds like there's an extra gear change when there actually isn't. I'm happy to make a donation for a new camera just so the sound is better!

@@notwocdivad Has to be a genuine gopro that can take an external mic. None of the knockoffs have the same high quality image sensor so the videos all look very blotchy. I've used many different types of cheap gopro type action cams and none of them are much good. The difference between a £300 camera and a £50 copy is clear. I still cant afford a real gopro 👍

Wouldn't it be better if you installed the camera on your helmet? The POV will be spot on in every video that way. Just my opinion. :)

Haven't you seen Paul's video showing off his whole low-rent bungee cord "cam-brassiere" getup? Still, even wearing this humble bodgery he manages to somehow crank out the finest ride videos BY FAR on RU-vid. In fact, if you crank up the playback speed on this BSA ride to 1.25x or 1.50x parts of it remind one uncannily of some of the more thrilling race scenes from that '66 movie "Grand Prix". That cost about $9 million bucks to make back then, or about $70 million in today's money. Paul apparently gets it done for stuff he found laying around in the shed.
