Re-discovered my Meteor Super .22 in the attic. We used to shoot at junior school in the 70's, moving up to 22's and 303's in senior school. Good old Ebay provided a new barrel seal and with your video I'm now plinking away in the garden like a kid all over again!!
Father bought home a mk3. 177 (Serial NE...) for my brother and me when we were at primary school about mid 70's. Learned to shoot with that and became proficient small boar through high school. I still have it and hope to refurbish the nearly 50 years rough handling. Loved it and consider it an heirloom now.
I’m the proud owner of the very first meteor made. Still have it’s box and scope. And it shoots absolutely beautifully. It was the one given to the PR at the time to take out and demonstrate. Has 01/01 stamped on the barrel. Proper bit of BSA history.
Thanks chap. Keep up your excellent vids. It’s great to see someone that’s so full of passion for airguns. My wife Danni Layton is an absolute airgun nut. She has done a few articles for airgun world and has done some interesting work for an American magazine on behalf of BSA. I just wish I could shoot as well has her . Anyway keep up the great work and thanks again.
Got given a Mk5 today, told it had some issues with not firing sometimes, might have something to do with being packed full of lithium grease. Hope to get it cleaned out and get some pellets through it soon
My Meteor Super that I received for my 15th birthday in 1980 had the front sight hood as standard. I still have it in it's original box with instructions and tube of oil (albeit empty) It's mint and never for sale.
Air Armoury funny thing. I haven't touched it in probably 35 years. My father used it last year on a couple of tats that arrived at the end of the garden and felt terrible about it but they had to go. I have just renewed my interest as a mate is planning to start shooting again, also after a very long layoff. I'll probably go in for some 'classic comps' with it to confirm my staying power and then get an Air Arms Tx200 if the bug bites. Targets only mind...
Sounds like your father has a similar attitude to me in that I don't like killing things, but sometimes a little pest control is required. Sounds like a good idea to use the Meteor in some classic rifle competitions. The TX200 is a great gun, I have a Mk3 which I just use for plinking.
I'm impressed .. may your grandpa's soul rest in peace ..Well I have the same rifle here in Syria I wonder how it got here ..nice video and thanks for the information
The super meteor did have the front sight guard fitted from new as sold in 75 although I think everyone quickly lost/removed it. I certainly removed both parts and immediately fitted a 4x20 scope with stamped mounts which were not removable from the scope. Good memories however, can't begin to imagine how many pellets I put through my pride and joy. Have two now for my kids to start on.
I think they would be a good gun to learn on as they are quite light. I can't remember if I said in the video, but my Grandpa removed the front sight and it is now presumed lost, so I replaced it with one from eBay.
Hi. I am from pakistan and my father has bought BSA meteor from Dubai in 80's Still having that gun. Since 80's it has been used only 3 or 4 time. It is in best condition. Love it :)
last week (24/3/17) I bought a bsa super meteor in reasonable condition for £20 I now know from your video that it is a te serial number and that it is actually a super meteor its a .22 with lots of power. now that I have realised that its a super meteor I am going to restore it back to its former glory. thanks for putting up such a useful video
Are you shure it's not adjustable trigger on mk4? Just restored one and it have small screw on the back of the trigger for adjusting. The trigger on the one I restored was extremely stiff. I turned the screw about 3/4 and polished the metal part on trigger catch. Not shure what does the job, but is smooth as PCP rifle now 👍
Great video I’m fixing 2 Meteors at the moment I found a Mk1 with Just letter T with number some one left it out for the scrap man I seen it so it took it all with other air rifle parts . and the MK2 I brought of a mate just needs some new bits spring and piston head seals and new trigger
As already said the Super meteor came with the foresight hood and chunkier stock with recoil pad I got my standard meteor in 1975, plain stock and no hood. If you are looking for modern pellets they like RWS superdomes and hobbies.
Great story. Great gun I bought a super meteor when I was 11. I couldn’t hit a barn door. Nothings changed there then . I’ve been looking to buy one but when a brand new mk7 with full power and a warranty cost less . I’ll end up with a new one. A shame because I’d love a mk4 Good video. Well done 👍. Would love to see a comparison yours compared with the meteor mk7 Just a thought
I’m sure it’s black enamel I own the mk3 late. Just fitted new piston seal breech seal and buffer washer polished spring slider and all the trigger parts. I love the heavy trigger. It a lot better now. It shoots like a little shot gun. It’s has much fun as my new guns
Had one when I was 12 It was a mk3 I came across a mk3 a bout 6 mouths ago bought it. It had been under someone s stairs for 40 years. And it was a lot better than it really ought to have been. I striped it polished everything original spring a quick leith on the piston wet& dry same with cocking port. And trigger sears.all new seals It is now so accurate and loverly to shoot the is really. I have record triggers and a TX and know a good trigger it’s not far from my TX I’ve ended up with the mk 3 4 and 5. And a mk7 evo. I’ve put a gas ram in the mk5 and fitted fibre optics sights built from mainly new parts. Simple loverly to work on don’t they don’t break the bank and if done right Well I shot ten air rifles Sunday afternoon and my little meteor was up there with the Tx200hc and HW77. And that’s just wrong and it was easier to shoot. 10 shots at 25 yards and it hit 10 6mm dots great little rifle
I like that trigger. And yeah I agree it’s hard. But compared to my new guns with triggers that fire if I blink. The super meteor is a great little gun I can’t believe how powerful it is and it makes me jump when the stiff trigger lets go ( fantastic) I’d like to get hold of a mk 5 I’ve just bought the mk 7 if they do stop making them it would be a shame not to have one. Great 👍 video. Should do one on the bsa scorpion. That is a mans gut. Cheers. Ho I think there enamel it’s to hard for paint like the finish it’s far better than blueing the finish on my mk3 1968 still looks new blueing last a few years and needs doing again. After writing this I came across a mk 5 today needs a lot of love.
Hiya i have been subscribed for 3 years now, can you please help a fellow out. I have a mk6 bsa meteor i can not find any infomation for the mk6 ? And i have took apart the whole thing even the 2 step trigger system? And dont know how to fully put the the trigger back together. I have foud an exploded diagram but its not clear on which position things go in. Can you help me please
Hi, I'm looking for an entry level rifle and have found a reasonably priced Meteor, however the seller is listing the serial as TS. Looking at your info their is no such code! Avoid? Cheers
My grandfather bought me my first airgun when I was eight years old, I had no coaching and was left to play with it, It was a Webley Junior rifle (Probably smoothbore though) that came with targets, Target holder and red plastic reuseable pellets, I wasn't told about safety or anything- By the way, My father hated guns!.. Anyhow, One morning I came downstairs with my beautiful shiny Junipor and my dad was raking out the ashes to make a fire, I took aim at his bum, Squeezed the trigger and to my horror (And my dads!) I'd left it cocked and loaded from the night before!! He almost disappeared up the chimney!!, In anger he ran at me and gave me an uppercut slap which lifted me over the sofa!! Never saw the gun again, Saw plenty of stars though!! 😳😆
+HarryWebb46 Despite what I said in the video, this gun does in fact have an adjustable trigger for sear engagement, which can be adjusted by way of a small grub screw about the trigger blade. I still find it very difficult to get the trigger to how I'm happy with, it just seems to be too heavy or too light. I have added a photo of the trigger adjustment to the Air Armoury Facebook page if you're interested.
great video and great to see the old eley wasp pellets been used, the newer wasp pellets are rubbish and are not made by eley and when they stopped making the wasp pellets smashed the dies, I have 3000 eley wasp in 22 and 1800 in 177 just to expensive to replace them now, if you can find any now and I have 2000 old milbro Caledonian pellets to, as when I was 10 that's all we could buy, all the best
AA,can I put a newer trigger group in my old mk3 TE .22,Metor? I took it apart to clean & the trigger group I thought would stay together it didn't!, a can't work it out!! Cheers, Stu..
In my xp it was a good gun but i think there were a few special ones in a batch that performed extra well A good brush, oil and leading in and also good pellets made the difference Thanks for showing my old gun, good times back in the day
not that much im afraid as so many were made probably £80/100 in standard condition but for an unused one maybe in the box could go for £150 but i finf it unlikely you'd get that much for it
THanks for the reply. I only paid 20 for my, so anything over that would be a plus. Its in ok condition, not great but till use able. Could you recommend a place where I could sell it.
+Bob Jones not sure where u could sell it maybe put an ad on a Facebook page, u won't get very much if u sold it to a gun shop because they have to make a profit off it
yeah so my guess was close..nh38401 would put mine in the 80s like my friend told me and yes it is a 177...and a great all around plinking killing machine..and still looking very new..thank god for older folks air guns that havent been used by kids..this was a old mans rifle he was selling..also got a german 22 spring piston 1929 made..sure love to rebuild that one..any one know any one that dose good respring and piston seal repair on here..i know the company that made the 80 year old one is out of bizz and been resold but im sure this would make a very good rebuild..project..
air armoury..your lucky day..it's a HAENEL MOD. III. D.R.P top of piston top of break barrel cal.5.5 m/m (.22) bottom of barrle MADE IN GERMANY 429 is the serial number.very nice patina..stock not sure of but it dose have a frount screw trigger adj. very heavy gun my guess about 12lb.one rear site on barrle were it breaks and one high frount site..would LOVE to have this rebuilt..yes it still shoots and is very accret..def needs new spring..no visable rust..not sure about how many twists barrle has..oops almoust forgot it has a tab on the right side of the frount barrle you have to depress to open it..
I have checked the BSA website for you. I can't see a distributor in Thailand, but they look like they have distributors in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Philippines.
Thanks for the rpely. I would be interesting to compare the muzzle velocity between the BSA Meteor, the BSA Airporter the Webley Mark 3 and the Original 50 airguns. I suppose that there would be very little difference between the three of them
I'm really not sure, I agree that it would be a very interesting test though. If there ever comes a time when I own all of those at the same time I will give it ago.
Well, the four air rifles I mentioned were all supposed to be the top of the range (although of course the "meteor" was more of a budget airgun). I think it would be a very interesting group test. You would of course need to ensure that the pellets were optimal for each airgun. I think that the German Original would not work optimally with pellets designed for the British guns. I hope you can do it some day. I constantly come across airgunners who wish to see the iconic "Airsporter" and "Mark 3" compared for power.
I just purchased a BSA Meteor Super MK5 this week Absolutely mint Rifle lovely Rifle When I cock it had no wear Look like new I did drop few drops of gun oil to lube the hinges an so fourth Also have a BSA Cadet and Cadet Major both in very good condition 8-10 I did cold blue the Cadet barrel Came out perfect What's the best pellets to fire 177cal 22cal please Could you do a video when the introductory new steel pellets please Keep up the good work and keep your arms up From London UK 🇬🇧 12:55
