Its a shame that the negative Nancy's still can't get that this channel gives honest reviews, How to advice and visual help to others that would otherwise struggle. Big companies do take note as some of their ideas have mysteriously appeared on new launch products. If the 'negatives' can be bothered to read comments, a lot of people do get a lot of problems straight out of the box and its channels like this that highlight it and hopefully the manufacturers quality control will improve. If you want flaky, biased, everything is wonderful reviews, stick to the endorsed s*!*t .
thanks for your comments 😊 yes it's a strange mentality that just says it's the best gun in the world even when it's rubbish, you can clearly see the damage on the barrel in the vid and as with all our guns plenty of people at the range have shot it and come to the same conclusion it 's not good 🙄
So what does this tell us about BSA barrel QC? Every gun should come with a list of names of everyone who made it! Then they might take a bit more pride in their work!
I’m still shocked that this is still an issue, I have 2 R10’s and they’re laser beam accurate, if someone without your knowledge and tooling paid hard cash for that it would have been returned to BSA. To buy 2 faulty guns is very unlucky. I hope it gets resolved because like I said. My R10’s are pellet on pellet time and time again. Still nice work though. Very tidy job 👍
yes we have had so many good guns this year to have 2 bad ones back to back is very disappointing but you get good and bad from all manufactures so i think we have just been a bit unlucky
I would have thought that BSA should QC all barrels? Even a simple visual check would have picked up the lack of rifling at the crown? Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this one. Thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Interested that this video has just come up. I have just sent my friends BSA R12 back to BSA due to accuracy issues. Just received back with 2 different magazines (plastic ones) and recrowned barrel.
Still the most informative RU-vid channel for sorting poor quality control and making repairs or improvements. It's odd that some RU-vid channels have incredible grouping even on a windy day aar??? My gripe with sub 12 is that it's all very well having anti tamper methods in place to stop you turning up the power. What about turning it down as the owner remains liable.
@@sub12airgunners why are so many people saying the R10 is a bad rifle ? I have a mk2 I bought new in 2016 and it’s been an amazing rifle. Literally pellet on pellet at 50yards. The only issue I had was the reg go bad last year and replaced with a huma reg. rifle is spot on again.
what a dam shame . good hammer forged barrel that’s is genuinely a pretty sound barrel system and the QC has let the gun down let’s hope you can work a bit of magic . a lother walther barel or a cz barrel in a BSA what ever next 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Jake great video and machining as always. I can't believe a manufacturer like bsa let's these slip through the net and you may end up having to use a third part barrel to get the accuracy up to spec it's not as the guns a £200 Chinese item I would sent you videos to bsa to show the issues and what you've had to do to remy it
yes something has gone on with this one i can't work out what has caused the damage, never seen anything like it before and i did have high hopes for this barrel, i have a bsa barrel on my M3 is just the best barrel we have ever had
Thanks for the video, my Internet friend. Is it better to let the pellet enter the barrel so far as to be true to the barrel! If the pellet was to be pushed into the barrel with the rifling starting at the very beginning wouldn't it have a chance of being pushed in crooked.
Would be interesting to see if other BSA R12s had the same problem of leaving the pellet short of the rifling or if this barrel has been damaged at both ends. That is a major flaw for such a renowned manufacturer, definitely stitched you up with a Friday afternoon build with this one.
Very informative Jake, my bsa has been back twice for cocking and accuracy issues,,but according to bsa it conforms to their accuracy test standards,,unfortunately not mine, two out of five are good but the others might have been fired with a catapult, my springers are spot on at 30mtrs.
I know this is out of context, but could you have a look at the Snowpeak M60 at some time? Having just bought one I can say It could be an extremely good lightweight rifle, the only problems are a slight accuracy issue and it will only pump out 10.2 ft. I work on all my guns and I've had this one apart, the most I get this to is 10.2 otherwise the instructed adjustments start in an unexpected way. Other wise, a really nice bit of kit for the price. (Sorry for intruding on the R12)
Eye spy a dremel....well, a piece of a dremel 🙂 Would re-crowning change the pellet of choice? You weren't kidding that you now have a stubby UNF for the shroud. Always like to see the lathe work. Looking forward to the next one.
Another BSA fail! This rifle has really proven to be one of the worst that BSA have ever produced. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter! It certainly doesn't reflect the cost that they are asking for! For all those tempted to buy a BSA...have a look at the BRK Ghost first, way better, and it's not made by BSA!
That is shocking quality control! 😮 Just imaging how many visits back to a gun shop a usual buyer would have to do before this was noticed. Great video but terrible quality from BSA.
As always I enjoy watching your videos on how to make your gun shoot better I know you didn't get it to shoot better in this video but I know you will in the next one thanks for sharing your experience be safe buddy 👍🏻
Nice video, it would be great to get manufacturers feedback on your findings. I have a R12 it was not great to start with but now seems to have settled down and is as accurate as you can wish for..
Looks like BSA ‘spoilt the ship for a h’peth of tar’ on this one. My suspicion is that a longer pellet probe won’t make a difference though can’t wait to see the next video! Great skilled work as usual!!
Brilliant video again. Loving your work. PS what is your ebay user name? I've heard you mention you sometimes list parts etc on ebay...I'd like to follow. Thanks
Hello love your videos. Question I have a older super 10 in mint condition. It has no 1/2 in thread on the barrel for a silencer. Would you be able to make thread my barrel? Thanks regards Michael
Looking forward to your solution. Was the issue solved with the extended pellet probe? I am having a very similar issue with a recent purchase and it is most annoying. I've carried out several basic checks. I have checked the crown with your 'cotton bud' test and with a 20x Lupe and there is no obvious fault. I've cleaned and had a looked down (or up) the barrel with a torch and again nothing obvious. I have pushed a pellet through and the choke at the muzzle end feels on the tight side. Could it be the choke? I look forward to your follow on video. Great engineering skills with nice succinct narration.
@@sub12airgunners 100% 👍🏽 my mates got a R10 SE and it is a absolutely Bob on and that was out the box 😊 That was a few year ago but he still has it and never let him down 👍🏽
Pretty sure if I bought one of these it would be just like the one that you have! Watch and read all the reviews and then when you get one you waste thousands of pellets testing everything you can get your hands on before eventually getting rid of the thing. I’ve owned 4 Anschutz rim fires over the years and none of them have been as good as they should have been. Bought a CZ 455 that had some rifling missing part way down the barrel. 2 FX Impacts that were unusable out of the box. Even my Ghost needed a complete new valve 100 shots in. Glad to see it’s not just me 😂😂 Very interesting videos- far better than watching TV!! Keep it up- thanks.
Good video Jeffsky. Terrible how some of these rifles are being sent out. Friend of a friend has an R12 and they made a video ratting with it and a 510us. You want to hear the weird noise the R12 makes compared to the 510. I told him it’s not right, although it is very accurate.
Shame to call them British small arms. How embarrassing for them. Complicated way to crown the barrel. I use a very thin tool with a large top rake angle and cut from the bore outwards using a skiving cut. No burr on the lands and far simpler than using a grinder....not desirable on your lathe!
yes a ton of ways to crown a barrel from a brass screw to special tools and machines i only do one once in a while so i enjoy taking the time 👍 not to worried about the lathe i do cover it, but it's such a small amount and not very often 👍
It's odd how many dud rifles you guys buy, 100% duds so far, I have a R10 SE .22 and can put 8 shots through a 6.5mm hole and even with a coupls strays my centre to centre is only around 8mm at 25m. but all the stuff you buy is wildly inacurrate untill you work your magic?! Really?
These guys are 100% genuine ,I have shot the last three rifles out of the box and both the r12 and pantera were disappointing, the ghost was pretty good.If you think these guys are anything less than genuine you are not very clever. All rifles can be improved if you have the knowledge and ability, hence how the likes of rat works make a living. These guys tell you truth about what they find not what the company’s want you to hear.
🤣🤣 really 🤣 100% Duds ? OK so your not counting the 30 or so other rifles we have done the other 170 videos on, most of which have been good and some just amazing🙄 i am sorry the fact that the BSA R12 is so bad is upsetting😥 you need to watch youtube vids from people who are being payed to revue them and you will feel much better 😂😂 FYI, just because your bsa shoots ok doesn't mean everyone ever made is the same, some are good and some are rubbish 😲
I have had 8 rifles go through my hands. Only the Crown and one Flashpup were great from the box. Everything else had to be reworked somehow. AEA managed to fubar a transfer port (it was closed solid and had to be drilled), one Hatsan had a bent pin as well as a faulty barrel (shot too low and wildly inaccurate), the other had some dead orings and faulty cylinder and I could go on for all of them. It's usually a small problem which you either fix yourself (orings, TPs,...) or you bring the gun back to have the part replaced (I'm waiting for my barrel from Balistas so that I can use my flashpup again).
Hi i don't how common it is but i have had 3 people contact and say they have the same problem but i have shot very good ones so it's not all of them 👍
Have you tried pushing pellets various distances down the barrel, each time pushing them back up to the breech end? Examining all pellets as a means of identifying a problem somewhere down the barrel. Even if I couldn't find anything, I'd polish/lap the full inside length of barrel. I'd also consider, if the start of rifling is a step, "reaming" the start of rifling with emery cloth to create a smooth symmetrical pathway for the pellet.
yes we have pushed pellets down the barrel start to finish and with the crown done they look pretty good but the lead is very deep and sharp so thats the next job 👍👍
@@sub12airgunners I can genuinely see BSA being one of the big historical companies that goes tits up by just being slow to upgrade and improve designs just sticking with what they have got has left them miles behind other manufacturers
