Speaker: Ann Forsyth, Ruth and Frank Stanton Professor of Urban Planning and Director of the Master in Urban Planning Program at Harvard Graduate School of Design
How might COVID-19 change ideas about the healthy city and the role of planning in attaining it? Ideas about healthy environments are varied-from healthy built environments and collaborative healthy cities to age-friendly communities and smart health environments. Focusing on high- and middle-income countries, this talk examines implications of the pandemic for ideals of a healthy place. COVID-19 has fostered experimentation, highlighted inequalities, upset distinctions between public and private actions, and been costly. This talk will address what has been tried to date and is worth keeping, and where more substantial changes are still needed to create healthier places.
