I loved Bintcliffe back then. I think it was his unlikely seat in that Audi. He did well to go from watching BTCC on TV and 4 years later sitting in the best car in touring cars . He even had to sell his watch to buy tyres at one round while in Clio racing.
Somthings not making sense? ...is why were the 2 Audi's seem to have a power and speed difference? Bintcliffes Audi seemed way slower than the othe Audi? Why was that?
Many thanks for this, it's nice to see the full highlights of this round. Burt's crash was pretty horrific and it was impressive he was racing again just a couple of rounds later. I also recall Menu remarking in Autosport that while Bintcliffe did well to hold up a huge queue of cars, the defending was way over the top🙂
I remember this race well and Burt's crash, I was on the hill directly opposite and you can't get the violence and speed of that impact from a video, it took quite a while to get him out.
Wow I'm just watching the latest btcc and big mini challenge support races crashes at oulton park 2 weeks ago and IMO the 2 mini crashes and other crashes in similar cars today were bigger crashes than this one and iits huge testament to the safety of the cars designs today as how drivers today suffer less injuries than Bert's one for crashing Inna bigger way . It's only through recent car crash safety tests that I appreciate why modern cars which to often look the same and no individual character to eachother are more superior to own to the better cars of this era
