I just wanted to put out( and anyone can correct me if I am wrong), BTS did not make Boy With Luv as a correction to Boy In Luv. They wrote songs based on their current life experiences. So, Boy in Luv was made in 2014 n the album is literally Skool Luv Affair. It's a part of their School Trilogy. So it makes all the sense that they would write the kind of love teens feel. Raw, unpolished, hormonal n overtly sexual. That's natural. Boy With LUv, on the other hand was made in 2019, where they themselves had matured n understood love in a different way. And ofcourse it refers to their relationship with ARMY. So, the backlash to Boy In Luv was honestly unnecessary.

In the part about the word peace that you questioned, as that song is for army's those verses in my understanding is they saying they are not heroes so they can't solve all of the world's problems, but what they can do is give us happy moments so they do that

They’re such babies in the the Boy With Luv! Love the bad boy vibe and love how their looks, voice, material and message matured with time. Such a juxtaposition with these two songs! JK’s rap smacks. V’s growl is doing things to me 😏, hottest man alive right there! Jin looks amazing, that man will look the same even at 50! Jiminie’s cheeks are too freaking adorable and the rap line is hard! I don’t care what anyone says, I love RM’s soft serve hair 🍦🤣.

while I very much share your opinion on the matter, one thing to note, that speaks to how amazing BTS - whether you actually find the lyrics misogynistic or not (which is of course opens to everyone's individual interpretation), RM actually took it upon himself to meet with individuals in women's studies to better understand from another's perspective - I just think given the age they were at the time, to have that level of consciousness and willingness to open dialog just speaks so loudly and I think that is something that we see echoed in the way they carry themselves daily

As far as I know, the controversy is not this Boy In Luv but about the lyric at War of Hormone. That's why they never perform War of Hormone anymore, but they still have Boy In Luv performance at their last 2019 MMA. And yes, you saw both performance live during that award show. 😄
@MyriahJazz
@MyriahJazz 2 года назад
The controversy regarding Boy In Luv was more just ARMY expressing discomfort with the school drama tropes of treating the girl roughly and dragging her if I recall correctly. War of Hormone and Converse High were the ones that got called out for lyrics (which seem so tame compared to some of the stuff we hear in America 😅 I had to actually think for a minute because I didn't take the "women are like equations, we just do them" line in a s*xual way at first and just thought of it as them expressing confusion about talking to girls and trying to figure them out like a math equation 😅)

@MyriahJazz
@MyriahJazz 2 года назад
@@jessbel7704 I've only found a couple performances of it from back when it first came out. For that one, the controversy was apparently over Suga's line about "Converse being easier to remove" or something, which was taken as "these are easier to take off before s*x". That one was a bit of a reach for me personally, but I'm an American so within Korean context it may have different meaning than what I hear, and if people were uncomfortable, letting Suga know that perspective is still valid and important for him as an artist because he needs that feedback for his writing. It's always up to the artist if they take the feedback or if they set out to clarify their intent or apologize for their intent coming off in a different way than they meant. I'm unsure if it was ever officially confirmed that they stopped performing this song because of the feedback or if it just wasn't the best song for promotion and it fell to the wayside like some other songs (GIVE US HEARTBEAT AND PARADISE LIVE OR WE MIGHT DIE, BANGTAN) but it always comes up along with War of Hormone and the tropes in the Boy In Luv mv for examples of when the guys changed their direction based on feedback.

Actually this was only an excuse to attack BTS . There were several songs by some popular groups of that time, but of course no one attacked them. Boy WITH Love (called Poem Of Small Things in Korean) is BTS TALKING TO ARMY and asking about their daily life. Of course we are needy of BTS and they are Needy of Army. You forgot that RM said its a song for Army. It is also a song from MOTS album so there is that too. This is BTS dealing with their Persona - which the Army sees.

The bold, direct and energetic lyrics, and the boy's youthful appearance show charm. And, The 6th mini album in 2019 Title song: Boy With Luv: Stage ending pose of two songs, the song title, teaser video beat sampling (persona) shows the connection between the two albums. Long comment warning because I haven't slept and had a lot of thoughts. I hope it isn't a bother, I tend to overexplain things when I'm trying to hold a meaningful conversation because I want the other person to understand my perspective and also know that I'm not trying to project ill intent or malice onto their perspective even where we disagree. The controversy was because BTS has, from the start, existed to challenge existing discrimination and toxic structures. That is legit BangPD's mission statement and reason for forming the group. Tropes like dragging the girl down the hall are a thing ARMY expressed discomfort with and, as others said, the guys were not comfortable doing that as teenage boys, but it was a persona back when they had less control over their image. They struggled with that image and becoming comfortable with who they really were because they felt alot of pressure from legitimately toxic "masculine" culture that pushes aggression, and from the idol industry to fit a standard when they really wanted to find a security in their masculinity and define what it meant for themselves in a healthy way that let them be men without heavy expectations for superficial things or upholding outdated relationship styles. Jimin especially had a difficult time because he had that toxic masculinity culture and society telling him he needed to be tough and not show his emotions and that was impossible to reconcile with his dance background in an extremely delicate discipline and his sweet personality and elegance. ARMY expressed that we had plenty of KPop songs about following the typical aggressive romance structures and mindless sexualization from other groups and that it wasn't what we wanted their entire discography to end up being. It isn't to say that all honesty about say, teenage hormones, or all sexual commentary is horrific and needs to be banned, but that the intent and styling is important. It was like "hey, there's 100 other boy bands out here to tell us that butts are nice, we don't want that to be the end all of our relationship with you. We respect and love you for your minds and personalities and we want you to believe in yourselves and we want you to want that for us as well and love and respect us as individuals that are all different, not just "girls are hot". And that really fit with what they wanted as well. BTS exist to challenge the powers that be, toxic structures that hurt people, and to be honest and open and encouraging and supportive, and when they do express negativity, they want it to challenge a toxic thing like the haters within the industry that were mocking them for not conforming, or to be an open communication on a real emotion that needs to be addressed and healed as opposed to simply expressed and retained. So long comment shorter (hopefully), I think when we discuss these things, we need to approach them with intent of removing toxicity and making the future easier for younger generations. So you mentioned that Boy In Luv was alot like your experience as a teenage boy. And what I would ask you is what would you honestly want to change in that experience? Would you want it to stay the same with all that aggression and frustration that our current society pushes as "this is how teenage boys act and this is their dynamic with teenage girls" and it's all just about wanting to score a girl, or would you have preferred a healthier expression for all of those hormones and feelings and a better relationship with the girls in the dynamic where you would have felt more comfortable talking to them and knowing them? For me, and I think most women, when we address "misogynistic lyrics and tropes" in media, it's with aim for everyone to end up in a healthier dynamic that isn't based in aggression or everyone just going around like "gee, boys/girls are weird and don't make sense and my hormones are really raging and I have no way to express my feelings without being rude to this boy/pushing this girl against a locker because I haven't had that taught and encouraged to me". Some folks end up impatient or just irritated and make comments that seem like it's a cut and dry "don't ever say anything I don't like ever again or else" but the majority do honestly want a conversation and a better outcome for everyone involved. The issue tends arise where we haven't been taught to communicate with each other effectively. Men are often taught to speak over women or dismiss them as silly. Women are often taught to either bow out when challenged by a man or to immediately become hostile because that man is a threat (because many men that will "shout you down" or just dismiss your thoughts are not safe people for us to be around) and these teachings aren't always explicit. They're subtly modeled to us through media, in the dynamics we're surrounded by, and we unconsciously follow them to our own detriment. This aggression culture harms men and it doesn't provide them any outlet to be human beings with feelings and complex thoughts because it's all about an outside portrayal and nothing to feed the inside. It's lonely, just as toxic femininity isolates women and sends us at each other's throats while also making us view men as big dummies that annoy us as opposed to friends and/or partners. And these cultures end up with the trope of the heterosexual married couple that hates each other 99% of the time that was super popular in sitcoms in the 90s. So when men are like "well that's exactly what it's like being a teenage boy, what's the big deal?", the answer is honestly that most of us were scared of the teenage boys we experienced in school. That aggression and those raging hormones were traumatic to us because that wasn't the way we wanted to connect with those boys. We liked them but the way they expressed their interest was heavy handed and didn't make us feel like actual people they actually LIKED as more than a body. So I feel the goal for all of us, men and women and in between etc, should be to learn to communicate better with each other and ourselves and teach the future teenage boys and girls how to have meaningful, respectful relationships that also responsibly teach them to handle those raging hormones. And that starts with people expressing discomfort and having conversations as opposed to extremes of banning the content or "just not looking at it of you don't like it". It's honestly a balancing act of being true to your boundaries and feelings and knowing when to draw the line for your involvement with something and when to take a certain approach to how you express that discomfort and try to talk out the perspectives.

K-dramas have many predictable tropes and cliches, and 3 of them turn up in the Boy In Luv mv. First is the concept of the "love confession" within the lyrics. Then there is the "forced wrist grab" at 9:30. The "close confrontation" at 15:48 is where the frustrated character backs the other against the wall, placing a hand on the wall next to the other's face. When you consider the lyrics of Boy In Luv, it all makes sense!

I respect your opinions about your interpretation of Boy with Love being "needy". However, as a counterpoint, I would like to point out that the Boy In Love focuses more on what the boy wants to do "to" the girl in the situation, and how HE feels regarding her. Boy With Love changes direction and I take it more as being INTERESTED in what they (the girl/partner) are doing, what they like, what they want to do even down to the way they talk, walk, and small habits. It is not needy in my opinion to want to learn about another person, be involved in their likes, enjoy sharing their conversations and observing their interactions. I'm sure any actions taken in a relationship can tip over into negative actions when taken too far (possessiveness, obsession, jealousy all stem from positive emotions to start with as we know). I think the connection between the two songs was more relational than direct. Boy IN Love is far from disrespectful when compared to much Western music, and it was written at a time when the members were all in their late teens and early twenties. The message of the song fits the feelings most young men have at that stage in their live (and honestly many young women as well). I do not find it offensive, especially when placed in the context of Korean culture and other Korean media from that timeframe. Boy With Love shows a more interested love. I mean, I enjoy being with a person who is curious about my day, life, hobbies; and I hope that I am able to express that same curiosity and interest in theirs as well.

I really do not agree with you on this one, there's no context for this honestly. I'm pretty sure that I can speak for most of women here, no we don't want agressiveness. Honestly it's time to wake up. Women are subject to so much violence in most societies, and this agressiveness is the start of it. Now, about them, I love BTS but this was a miss. Unnecessary violence, lyrics seem like sexual harassment (insisting on a girl that is ignoring you, and putting her down because the girl is rejecting you...), filled with toxic masculinity. But I guess they were young and immature. I am glad they reflected on that and have grown. It's good to acknowledge mistakes...
