Not to disagree but this actually is something they can do in BTS. Cypher 3 was included on BTS's 2014 Dark and Wild album and performed live during BTS concerts at the time. It is not mixtape, in fact Suga's reference in this song to AKA Agust D predates his first Agust D mixtape. The attraction of BTS is they span genres, perform in subunits and individually, and are given more creative slack by Big Hit than would ever be expected by a group which adopted the Idol platform.

I think if he keeps reacting to BTS he'll figure it out. Right now I think the only song he's heard from the full group is Butter. I think once he gets to a song like Mic Drop he'll have a better idea of the range of the full group. It sometimes takes a couple songs before we can all get past the word "pop" in K-Pop haha.

YES to all of these. I agree though that Ugh and Ddaeng need either the explanation by DKDKTV or the doolset translations. Otherwise there is just way too much wordplay lost in translation.

FYI: the Cyphers are BTS tracks, they are on their official albums. The rappers do have solo work as well, but they have lots of hip-hop and rap tracks on their BTS albums. BTS really are the most diverse group you can imagine.

RM is one of Kpop's best leader. Suga is a top producer. Jhope is one of the best dancer in Kpop. These three together is just world class. Iconic tracks of the rap line are: Ddaeng,Outro: Tear, Ugh, Cyphers 1-4. Also, the color coded vids are not that accurate in translation, see dolset for good translation.

I looked up Kagemusha, it is the Japanese term for a political decoy, literally meaning "shadow warrior". Also, Supreme Boi is a rapper and a Big Hit in house producer and he trained with them when they were going to debut as a Hip Hop group. When their CEO decided to debut them as K-POP, he decided to forgo the group and just be a producer. All the Cyphers are featured on BTS albums. Their earlier work has a big Hip Hop focus. If you want to check out some OT7 songs, check out Silver Spoon/Baepsae, No More Dream, Mic Drop and Not Today. For another rapline song check out Outro: Tear, featured on their Love Yourself: Tear album. It was written by Suga about the other members when they were thinking of disbanding in early 2018.

13:30 when you mentioned that they are going hard and aggressive in the cyphers here because they cannot do that in BTS because BTS is pop meant to go viral and on radio, which can also be said to some extent, but BTS started out as a heavily hip hop inspired group. And BTS as a 7 members group also went quite hard, their older stuff, like No more dream, N.O , we are bulletproof pt 2, etc are very rebel like because it was that. A rebel against the society and it's set standards, I really hope that you check that out so that you can get a broader insight into their musicality. Really appreciate your thoughts on BTS though.

Also these cyphers were included as tracks in the BTS discography. I feel like the cyphers are statements, 'yea we have this in the bag but we choose to put out what we put out'. I think cypher 4 def emphasizes that statement since they're more about the message they are sending, and I love myself is def a powerful message.

@@kelseymattison4987 Spring Day never almost got them in trouble. Am I Wrong was the song that networks weren't letting them play or perform in full because of how political it was. Only one network let them perform the entire song and it was as a statement against the government.

I think what Suga was saying in the line "my voice will turn you on whether it's a guy or girl" can be like his voice (rap) will attract you & draw you to listen to him regardless of gender. And also when he mentions "tongue" in his verses I believe he's referring to his 'tongue technology' which is defined as his speedy, complex rap style.

I just want to make clear that unlike their personal solo work, the cyphers are official BTS tracks. Within BTS discography there are solo songs by all the members, songs by just the rap line, by just the vocal line and occasionally by other combinations/sub-units, as well as all the full group tracks.

Kagemusha is a movie made by Akiro Kurosawa where in feudal Japan, a high ranking official is killed, but they use a thief who is the spitting image of him, to confuse the enemy. It's similar to the man in the mask in European history where they hid one of the twins in a jail in a mask so no one knew who he was, and then later replaced him with the help of the 4 Musketeers, and put the bad king into the mask and into prison. If you watched Daechwita this play on low ranking to replacing the king is similar.

When comes to Rapline we can't choose one out of whole 3 because they have different styles and they are so talented. Same for Vocal line. 4 vocals are needed to be perfect song. Its not a comparison of who is better. 7 members are so talented. I am just adding this here.

absolULTELY. Suga will always be my ult bias in kpop, but that OT7 can’t be broken. Each member is needed equally. UGH. On top of Suga being my bias in general I think his rap style and subject matter is the most indicative to my personal preference in rapping and hip hop. Each bring that 110% equal, and it’s wild that your “fav” on each beat is purely based on just what you personally vibe with because they always a 100/10 on tracks. That shit is crazy to me💀

There's a hilarious behind the scenes clip of V learning how to rap Cypher 3, you might enjoy it. V gets a little help from RM and later in the clip he performs it for the rest of the members. They form a circle of judgement around him lolll. V even wore Suga's clothes for the performance, to channel his "rapper" energy. the cyphers are very much BTS. their title tracks are of course more pop friendly or EDM vibes but you’ll find songs like this on just about every album. all these songs are on BTS albums.

A GREAT performance of the cyphers is actually a medley they did in 2017, however RU-vid took every video of it down last year. BUT if you google the key words *"dailymotion bts cypher medley 2017"* it should be the first hit.

I have no idea what Suga's sexuality is but I know he promotes pansexuality or someone who is gender blind. In fact BTS are very big supporters of LGBTQ, which makes sense because the Number 1 message BTS has always promoted is loving yourself, being true to your self, and not letting the world define you or drown your dreams. Also, when BTS first started out they were shut out of the industry by the industry and mocked endlessly for their looks, their name, their sound. The rap line was accused of selling out to become Idols and were told that Idols's can't be rappers because rappers don't look "pretty". Both RM and Suga have said F-that, how you look, what you wear has nothing to do with your ability to rap. So songs like "IDOL", "Mic Drop", the Cyphers and RM's solo "Be You" address the haters that hounded them for the first few years after their debut. I particularly like Mic Drop because it's a tongue-in-cheek talk back to the haters about how successful they've become.

To appreciate their rap, I recommend their live performances. It's whole another level. You will then clearly see that RM raps with his mind, Suga raps with his soul and Jhope raps with his body. Jhope is often overlooked in this game but the live performances change everyone's view.

Cypher 3 is my all time favorite. By my profile pic, I’m sure you can guess my double biases. I never cared too much for rap but the BTS rap line changed my mind. Yes, there is a part 4! Can't wait for your reaction to that! With the iphone, airplane mode, and roaming charges, RM's basically saying how they're global (fly all over the world). Supreme Boi is one of their company's in-house producers, so there probably isn't photoshoot quality pics of him floating around. Actually, the Cyphers WERE released as part of their work as BTS on their albums. They're considered subunit songs. They often have rap line and vocal line subunit songs, and sometimes they'll mix up the subunits too. Their albums have tracks with a wide variety of genres, including harder stuff.

13:28 the cypher series is not the Rap Line side project. When you said this is something that BTS could not do, it is actually the opposite. This is exactly what BTS does, all the 4 Cyphers are legit from their official albums.

hmmmm bts was a hip hop group and later expanded their music because boundaries suck. they don't make their music as an ear pleaser to get to the radio. radio was never friendly to BTS and honestly they've made it without radio and they don't need it to be huge. you can say that Dynamite and Butter were pop and made it, well because bts wanted to give us a fun exciting song to be simply happy, and it got radio play just because of the language. you can find amazing rap in any album, not just in cypher series or even rap line songs, just as you can find amazing vocals in any album and by the way cyphers are bts. it's not a rapper's side project. Cypher pt1 was a track on BTS' album O!RUL8,2?, Cypher pt2 - on the Skool Luv Affair, Cypher pt3 - Dark & Wild album, Cypher pt4 - Wings album i respect your appreciation for rap line skills, but please don't judge the rest of bts' discography without hearing it

Suga's part my voice will make you come has many interpretion but actually its whole more on korean wordplay. apart from most ppl interpret it as his specialty spitting bars fastly aka "tongue technology"
