Chris Martin wrote this for his then wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, to comfort her when her father died. It's very touching and they really do it justice. Yoongi sings really well in a limited range. Chris has become friends with them all but especially Jin to whom he gave his guitar. Now he and Jin have collabbed on 'The Astronaut', Jin's new song.
@@debbiewilliams1138 I don’t think so. Just because there is a gap between when it was actually released, it doesn’t mean he did not initiate writing this song for that reason. The whole group may have ended up adding to it, and the final version produced and released years later. That is normal.
Everything you read on the internet states that fact but I remember in an interview that he stated he wrote the song after hearing all the great sounds on the synthesizer her father left her. It had just been sitting unused in their house. The remaining members of the band then all met to complete the song. So if he did write it for her great. It is a beautiful song.
You should definitely check out the documentary on the making of My Universe with Coldplay before you watch Jin's new single, The Astronaut. And then make sure you watch the live performance where Jin flew to Argentina to sing it live for the first time with Coldplay (and get the speech Chris Martin made before they started the song).

It is well documented that a German radio station DJ (being a racist and xenophobic) told BTS that they should take a 'vacation in North Korea' for covering a Coldplay track. He thought he was being loyal to Coldplay and winning over the public. What he didn't realise is that Coldplay rarely give permission for their tracks to be covered and they loved what BTS stood for and were happy for them to sing their song, which was a start of this beautiful friendship!💜
This practically started it. BTS is covering Coldplay! It was like a clue that something is brewing. Coldplay does not let anybody cover their songs. Then Boom! My universe happen...and we finally got The astronaut.
This song is so beautiful. The music and the lyric are amazing. The rap line surprise me with their beautiful harmonies. Jimin and JK are so good. And for me Jin and V slayed it. This is a great Coldplay cover, one of the best.💜
Very few people could cover Coldplay but this cover made me cry everytime I listen to it. You can hear the sincerity in their voices. This is the genuine music collab between two bands. I hope there are more collabs coming in the future even though Coldplay has set their retirement plans.
This song brought back some emotion because when they released this video is when Covid was everywhere. BTS (and all the other bands) had to keep cancelling their tours. BTS was sad. Army was sad. BTS released this for Army to help get through the pandemic. It’s kind of appropriate song now what they are going through with leaving for the military. Good pick Brian!
Love this cover and one of my favourite parts is how the vocalists and rappers pair up and harmonise, I love it when they do this in songs, and it sounds sooo good in Fix You - its just beautiful! 💜😌
i would listen to this cover in class and it would make me cry bc it was so emotional to me especially jin singing "tears stream down your face" bc that is what was happening also the song felt like it was an older brother comforting you but that's how most bts songs sounds to me but its literally so pretty

Their collab came abt cuz of someone suggesting it to Chris a couple of years back. BTS members (esp Jin) are big fans of Coldplay so they wanted to do the collab. Chris even gifted his guitar to Jin which can be seen in the background of 'the astraunaut' video
It was the first song I heard from them and I fell in love, V's voice just broke me here, I was touched and had tears in my eyes, the ending just hiiiit meeee😭😭😭😭😭 It was beautiful, I loved how they sang in duets too, after that I started to check their other songs, Blue and Grey is still on the top of my list of favorites 💜💜💜
Jin definitely stood out, but I really loved how Jimin used his beautiful pure tones, it provided a lift I felt the song needed. Yoongi is so special in many ways, but for me a large part of his appeal is due to the emotion he can express, both rapping and singing. I had no idea how much emotion I could feel from a rap until I heard his mix tapes (I found Agust D before BTS). Jimin also is amazing at expressing different emotions with his vocals. Probably why those two are often the ones whose parts touch me the most. I loved this rendition, particularly loved how they paired the vocal and rap lines together. It had me in tears.
They received a racist rant from a German Radio DJ because of this performance as he was so angry they "tarnished" Coldplay's song, but it's funny because BTS are now so close to Coldplay!
Fix You is a very nice song. and BTS' cover is so beautiful. On your question on how they were able to work together or how their collaboration started, there's actually a Coldplay x BTS documentary that they uploaded in their channel. There, you can see how they admire each other and the underlying story on how their collaboration was made possible. Hope you can watch it too.
Coldplay only allowed BTS to cover their song, because they share similar mission as a music artists. Somebody even wants to cover their songs with big amount of money but Coldplay didn't Accept the offer....its Only BTS til then they're best band brothers.
Chris talks about how someone told him they do something with BTS, but something I have only heard him say twice, is that it was Jin who contacted him and suggested they collab! Chris usually does not mention it was Jin, and I think it is because Jin is actually very shy about things like that. Jin was always a Coldplay fan, and idolized Chris. In fact, after their performance at the Apollo in NY (they did My Universe), Jin told Chris he loved his guitar, Chris signed it, and gave it to him, and said, “now you have to learn to play it”. Jin said, ok. Suga said, but Jin, you already play the guitar, and Jin quickly said, shhhhh! Chris then proceeded to teach Jin a chord- not knowing Jin already knew how to play, and Jin never told him. Lol….

You said you hear pain in Yoongi’s voice - me too. I know you are watching the Rise of BT; And I know you know about Yoongi’s shoulder; Not sure how much more you know about his past but if you want to know a bit more about that pain - I highly recommend The Last by Agust D. I love Yoongi, though not a big fan of rap. I fell into BTS mostly because I related to his story. Later, when I listened to The Last - I burst into tears just hearing him try to get through it, and then I cried more trying to read the lyrics. It’s a tough song for me and a tough song to picture Yoongi writing, rapping and recording. But worth knowing about.
It was this performance when I saw how well Jin's singing style and tone matched ColdPlay songs. They are all great singers but as you said some voices match specific songs. Thank you once again for a thoughtful reaction. From my own viewpoint, having been a ColdPlay fan from their beginning, BTS and ColdPlay are two of the groups I most connect with over my long life. It is hard to pick a bad ColdPlay song, much like it is bad to pick a bad BTS song, there just are not any. Also, like BTS, ColdPlay live is best. Yellow and Higher Power both good but Paradise is my top.
I read comments and yeah Coldplay had to give permission to BTS so they could cover it, they usually don't agree but here we are, so all started there Chris knew that BTS existed but not much so he looked them up, looked up their music, MVs and their message and was interested. But before all that I don't know how much you know about MTV unplugged it is very specific performance, bc it was covid time BTS did it in this form - 4 videos with their live performances, usually unplugged is with live band and songs are more acustic then their normal versions, but also normaly band would go to MTV studio and do it live (but yeah covid). Artist that perform choose some songs from their albums, but also one cover song, it is like a thing, part of show, and BTS as fans of Coldplay wanted do their song, Jin was big fan always, hmm, so it come from BTS that they wanted do cover, but then they also said about collab, that they would love to do it if Coldplay would be interested, and that is how "My universe" happened, rest you will watch in documentary. 😉 (I really recommend Nirvana MTV unplugged, great performance)

Ahhhhhh 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 It really did fix me all over again ❤️ Even without being able to watch the video, their voices were just so soothing to my soul 💜💜 I still remember when I had given a government bank exam, and didn't do very well on it. I had came back home really depressed. Just like a routine, I put this performance on our TV, and it's meaning had just changed forever for me that day 💕 I remember the stream of tears that fell down at the very first line "When you try so hard but you don't succeed".... The cover is part of the MTV Unplugged, the boys admire Coldplay and that song has a special meaning for BTS. It is not easy for Coldplay to authorize covers of their songs and much less of Fix You because of how special it is for Chris Martin. This was authorized and also described as beautiful by Chris. Less than 2 months after it was released, Chris Martin traveled to Korea for 2 days to record the song. There is a documentary of them on the Bangtan TV channel. From my perspective this collaboration was the most natural and sincere, so it went beyond just a collaboration but escalated; there is so much in common between them that the difference in language and age is not important (Coldplay started when the boys were still babies, JK was born a year later).

I love that you say bts is always better live. because it is so true. Also I grew up listening to cold play they are amazing songs. I saw them live in Tampa earlier this year and it was great. They even played my universe at the stadium, and it was so cool to all coldplay fans sing along. Bts made this cover and when it came out a german radio host said some very bad and racist things about bts and blasted his thoughts all over their radio station. it was bad for days army hashtagged and emailed and called to make that radio host accountable. After this coldplay and bts made the collab my Universe. I don't know if my universe was already in the works before the radio host made those remarks, but we got the collab after it.

Coldplay has been so good to BTS from the beginning, first they let them cover Fix You (which is not common) and Chris traveled to Korea for their collaboration (My Universe)
their cover of Fix You will always hold a special place in my heart. It was how my purple journey started. My friend sent me the video, begging me to check it out I knew Fix You, I loved the song, so I thought "why not?" Best choice of my life. My mind simply exploded. I'm with you on Yoongi's voice. I've often said that whether singing or rapping, he's good at raw emotion - painful things feel like open wounds, new and fresh. It's why First Love hits me so hard. I love how many ways they can pair up and complement each other. JK can harmonize with anyone anyway, but it's neat to see that they all can, without losing their individual colors. I love Suga + Jimin a lot as a pair of voices - I think the textures go well. (Jimin singing over Suga's rap is one of my favorite things.) I like this understated cover. It's a lovely song and they stayed true to it. And this cover was one step on the road to My Universe and the Astronaut.

This is the first song of BTS where I heard everybody sing in this way and I think they did really well using Yoongi and RM's voice to mix with the vocalists.
