BTS: "Ma City" Stagemix Reaction

ARMY say BTS arent KPOP because it was the wider Kpop community that made a big show of rejecting ARMY and BTS from their online spaces. So yes ARMY took that and made it their armour and proudly celebrates BTS as global musicians who are sharing their Korean culture across the world. ARMY has never removed BTS from their korean identity in their music, its ALWAYS other fandoms that have done this. So when ARMY say BTS arent Kpop what is really being said is BTS are not limited by the typical culture and surface music that the other kpop companies fostered for many years - this is something Yoongi has referenced in his lyrics too, so while yes BTS themselves do claim the Kpop identity, they arent limiting themselves to it. Sorry if this comes across heavy, but I thought its important to explain why some ARMY might say BTS arent Kpop.

I think because both tae and yoongi are from Degu same with Jungkook and Jimin being from Busan they didn't want to repeat the same info or experiences, but I do think Jin should have had more to say about where he's from.. since like Namjoon and Hobi he's from a different part of korea to Tae, Yoongi, Jungkook, and Jimin... but this is one of my favorite early hype songs from their discography!

Thank you ladies! My first time hearing this song was the Busan concert Oct 2022. JK's opening was amazing. Not a fan of the stage mixes, but love the song and reaction. I'm one of the westerners (don't hate me). While they started as K-Pop, and may still be, K-Pop is an industry and many genres are covered in their music. That is why I just don't like that they segregate them into separate categories for awards and such. Do they segregate Spanish music? Do they segregate African-American music (they better not after so many years of trying to get rid of segregation)? That's my only issue. Not trying to remove their heritage; just trying to give them fair treatment along with other worldwide artists for purposes of recognition and awards. Where I'm from used to be sort of a village. However, now it's become an extension of a city that is 40 minutes away. Just building everywhere!

Ma City is one of their most political Songs, Hobi is mentioning the Democratic Movement of his Hometown of people who fought Military Oppression, by the US Military this Movement is the reason South Korea now days kinda has a Democracy, lots of people died, getting killed by Soldiers for protesting. People from Gwangju to this day face discrimination, because they are a political left and democratic City, Hobi got excluded of so many Media rantings, because he is from Gwangju and far right politicians, spread their disgusting narratives about them, they also still came discrimination, when it comes to schooling, universities, jobs. Hobi is also mentioning a far right nazi forum, and makes fun of them, it's like the Korean version of 4chan. If you want to be educated on it, read about the Gwangju Uprising, and watch the Movie Taxi Driver, and read the Doolset Lyrics about Ma City. The Numbers of the Lyrics r the Date, when Protesters got kiled by Korean Soldiers under Americas Occupation, for protesting, yoongi also wrote pre debut a Song about the Event.
