I'm sure others have clarified as to what they were talking about butttt...the beautiful thing about music/lyrics is that you can interpret it in your own way or apply it to situations you are going through, or relate to something you have experienced. These lyrics, although they are about the fear of disbandment, can very easily be applied to heartbreak or toxic relationships. In fact, that's usually the first impression.

This song and performance always kills me, especially J-hope's part at the end. I am a mess again.😭😭😭 As you have experienced, this is a powerful song and performance that just hits you to the core. One of my all time favorite that never fades. Whenever RM, Suga and J-hope rap together, they become The Deadly Trio and they can blow any rappers out of the water in my opinion. That’s what’s awesome and makes BTS different tbh, their musicality is versatile yet will always either make you think or will make feel like you can relate. Their song isn’t just about hype and what’s in or what would look and sound “cool” they are a real artists. They never write about none sense or just about what usually most popular artists would do.... writing songs about them flexing or typical love story. BTS put depths and value with their crafts and music. And what makes it better is that all the BTS members are pretty hands-on when they make music. Which is why their passion always shows whenever they perform live. They make sure the emotions they put into their songs will be delivered to the listeners and that people who will listen to it will feel the sense of belongingness. And it’s amazing how their perspectives goes. It’s like they’re telling/showing people that though we may live different lives and have different personalities, though they may became famous and al, they are no different from us. We all feel pain, happiness, we all long for something and that none of us are perfect. BTS love and respect for music, itself is what keeps them in this music world despite its toxic ness in most cases when it comes to the industry itself. And they never take all their achievements for granted, they make sure to Always show their gratitude for ARMYS and how the ARMYS are actually the reason that keeps them going . Especially whenever they feel drained . They always wanted to give back, reason why despite them becoming this huge, you don’t see them lazing around or even performing half-assed. Not with their performance, not on their shows, not on their music and contents, not even on their MV’s . What’s great and makes BTS music different is that it’s as versatile as them. Like you can literally take it as how it resonates for you. And they meant to do that. Some of their songs are straight to the point, but most of their other songs will either make you think deeply or will end up getting you mind-fucked (LOL) and it’s a good thing. Since that means with BTS you’ll get a good song, well made music and lesson in life. It does make you smart actually. I'm so thankful I got to experience this performance live last year in Chicago. I feel so bad for Armys that'll never get to see it since LY era is over 😭😭. Tear was the one I was looking forward to the most and it was incredible.

But the energy and the emotions that flows through you when you see this live is just crazy!!! I'm lucky I got to see it twice... That first note hits and the green lights come on and everyone just prepares themselves.

Tear was written while the group was considering to disband (2018 MAMA awards speech) . Suga said “The lyrics for ‘Tear’ were written for the members. When I was writing the melody, at the time, we were deeply contemplating whether we should quit or not. When I played the song for the members we all cried together.” By the way every rapper represents a different feeling and furthermore a different meaning of the word "tear".RM represents sadness, thats why tear is the noun of tearSuga represents anger, thats why the tear he uses is the verb (torn)J-hope represents fear

I'm writing this before finishing the video but I just wanted to say that I think it's okay to "speculate" what the songs are about, especially BTS songs. Art is meant to be interpreted after all. For example, when D-2, Yoongi's second mixtape, was released, he went live and talked about the behind the scenes of the album. However, he made sure not to talk about what the songs were actually about because he wanted the audience to come to their own conclusions and interpret the songs themselves. So don't hesitate to try to come to your own conclusions about the songs! Inevitably, there will be people who will come out and tell you what the songs are actually about, or what they think they're about, but trying to come to your own conclusions about what BTS' songs are about is all part of the fun. Great job so far you guys! I really enjoy your videos.

I know a lot of us like commenting the interpretation the fandom came up with or the explanation BTS themself said was behind it and then tell "This is it". But music is all about different interpretation and how each listener understand and feel the song themself. There's no unique answer. Only Suga’s part is confirmed to be about the disbandment itself , I think the other parts could be better interpreted as the ending of a relationship but in general the whole song conveys the message of parting from sometime you loved sooooo good

I think it is the first time to see anyone not giving this song a just one dimensional meaning, keeping it open for a lover or friendship relationship, where ppl that love each other parts :) Once, BTS said that this song was written in a moment where they felt so pressed about their fame and expectations and thinking on disbanding and talked about that: maybe if they were honest with their fears, joys and struggles the wouldn't suffer like THAT

This is such a tragic song and JHopes part at the end is heartbreaking. They use word play in this English word tear, just as they do in their Korean titled Ddaeng. Tear for tears we shed, tear for tearing us apart and then fear. 😢 It is so upsetting when BTS music is minimised by critics (even now as Dynamite is being promoted). Nothing wrong with BTS lighter/brighter music but people are really missing out when works like this are less heard than the pop styled songs.

Think about 7 individuals living and working with eachother basically 24/7. They are prohibited from dating and a lot of other normal things the rest of us take for granted - so somehow they had to work thru all of this. To be the fly on the wall when they sat down and listened to this together for the first time. I’m so grateful they made it thru this. If you haven’t already watch their MAMA2018 Artist of the Year Daesung award acceptance speech - I feel like their Outro Tear emotions came flooding out in that moment. In my opinion Outro Tear was the best performance at the 2019 Rose Bowl concert - the whole place was overcome
