PTD was basically about the hope for the pandemic over. The pandemic wasn't over when it dropped but it was too tell us to not stop dancing (not lose hope) and we will meet each other at the end. Which BTS did manage to do, they got to see ARMY again in 2022

@@minitwink16 That's actually a really great point that I hadn't thought about. All of the workers in the MV would be considered essential workers who would have still been going out to work and keeping things running. I'd just thought of it as showing the "everyman" so we'd relate but you're right. It was a very specific sort of "everyman". It's nice that they got to be the stars of the MV.

This was their 3rd fully English song (after Dynamite & Butter). PTD was written by Ed Sheeran (along with some other songwriters) and is a feel good song about the pandemic that when everything was shut down & there were so many regulations on what people could & couldn't do, no one needed "Permission to Dance", or try & keep their spirits up. Their choreographer incorporated sign language into their dance so that more people could better enjoy the song 🎵

Now for PTD!!! This song got so much hate, but it is so good and is an epitome of joy and happiness (even if it is just for a moment or in our rooms). Some explanation for the song and my thoughts: -Just to give some context I think it will be important for you to watch/read/listen to their song Sea. You can't react to it on YT because it is a hidden track and gets blocked, but it explains why they are in the desert (and what it means between ARMY and BTS). Simplified: It is the Sea when BTS and ARMY are together but desert when we are not together. -Also, the reason there were pancakes shown at the beginning that the lady was carrying was because this song was released after their song Butter. -The laundry mat connects to their song Spring Day, which is about loss and longing -Sign language in choreography: Fun, Dance, Peace -There Suga dubbed the lyric, “Cause when we fall, we know how to land” his beacon of hope and was quoted saying, “I’ve said several times that I’m afraid of falling but not landing. And the difference between falling and landing is that landing means that you can take off again." "So, no matter how desperate the situation is, if we choose landing instead of falling, choose not to give up, and just land, we’re ready to fly again...I thought it’s a very appropriate thing to say in the current situation, and I could relate to the lyrics while singing. And there are countries where the situation is slowly but surely getting better. Seeing that, I think I am looking for hope again.” -Bookish Theory connects this song to Make it Right song and the themes of Map of the Soul 7 album and Sea -The title Permission to Dance is an anagram for "Stories on Pandemic". So, in the music video you see people that were front line jobs during the pandemic and those that are often forgotten about such as waitresses, janitors, office workers, bus drivers, etc.

She jumped over the garden fence and stole a flower. This angered the man at first. So he watched his garden all night. But when he fell a sleep, the woman took another flower. This continued for several nights. The man pretended to be asleep and watched the woman steal a flower. He started becoming curious about the woman. He began waiting for her. without realizing he kept waiting for her to come and the next day seemed a little brighter. Remember back in the summer of 2021 when we all thought things were getting better because we had a vaccine that was working, and cases of COVID were dropping very low, but then the Omicron variant showed up and wrecked everything because it evaded the vaccine (at least still made cases less life-threatening for the majority of people, at least)? Well, this video was filmed at that point - things were looking up and the thought was that by the time it was released we would be getting back to normal. They had their concert in Los Angeles just as Omicron was appearing - the first case was reported in San Francisco the weekend the concert series was ending (I know because I was at the concert, and hearing about that new case made me go "Oh shoot"). So, they got one concert series out and things got bad again (although not as bad). It was another five months before they could do the next concerts - in April 2022 - and by that time it was clear that the vaccines were preventing serious illness for most people, so life was returning more to normal (if it will ever be "normal" like "normal" was "normal" back in late 2019, early 2020 anyway).

Love your reactions, if i may, if you are up for it you might want to listen to their discography from the beginning. There are also lots of hidden gems in their B-Sides that are really great, 2nd Grade, Tomorrow, Baepsae (Silver Spoon), Spine Breaker, So What, Hip Hop Phile, 134340 (Pluto), The Truth Untold, UGH, Cyphers 1-4... there's so much. You'll def enjoy it. Even their intros in their albums are awesome. If you want to do album reviews, you'll discover their growth as an artist and person. And we haven't even touched their Japanese releases which are soooooo good.. (just be careful with JP releases coz they are most likely gonna be blocked)

Okay, your videos are fun and quite enjoyable, but I am concerned you are not seeing the WHOLE of BTS. Time for a harder-edged song. Have you done MIc Drop yet? Also, some solo rap stuff would add a lot to your perception of BTS: Joke (RM), Daechwita (Suga), maybe Outro: Tear by the whole rap line. If not, stop reading :) The Truth Untold” is based on the story of the Smeraldo flower. -In a village of northern Italy called ‘La Città di smeraldo’, there was a small secluded castle. In that castle lived a man with grotesque appearance. He was the love child of a duke from a powerful family in Florence. The duke fell in love with the daughter of his gardener and gave birth to this man. The mother of the man passed away from excessive bleeding after giving birth to him. The wife and children of the duke wanted to kill the man, so the duke sent the man away to let him escape. The man hid himself in the old castle, lonely. probably, it was because of the hatred he received from birth and while he's growing up that he didn’t open his heart to anyone, he got angry and hid if someone tried to approach him. His only joy was growing flowers in his garden. But one day, a girl appeared near the man’s castle. The girl in ragged clothes lifted her heels, jumped over the garden fence and stole the flowers. The man got angry at first, he spent the whole night to guard the garden. But in his brief moment of sleepiness, the girl picked flowers again and ran away. It happened for several days, until one night the man pretended to fall asleep and watched the girl go. He was curious. Without realizing it, the man waited for the girl, and one day he followed her. He covered himself with a cloak and after following here the man discovered, the poor and weak girl was selling flowers for a living. The man wanted to help the girl. He wanted to teach her every method of growing flowers he knew, he wanted to teach her how to grow beautiful flowers. But he couldn’t come forward to the girl. She would be scared of him, she wouldn’t love his grotesque appearance. In the end, the only thing he could do was to grow and take care of the flowers so she could keep coming to his garden. The man decided to make a special flower that doesn't exist in the world. He started to make a flower so that the girl could sell at an expensive price. The man shut himself in the castle to make the flower. After countless attempts, the man made a flower that never existed in the world, and filled his garden with that flower. But the girl was nowhere to be seen. No matter how much he waited, the girl wouldn’t come to his garden. The man grew concerned and went to the village with his face covered. But he discovered that the girl had already died.

This MV was actually shot in Incheon in South Korea because they still couldn't travel. They built the whole set just for the MV. I believe the father of the little boy in the dark shirt is , Yong Seok Choi who is director of Lumpens the company who has directed a lot of BTS's most famous videos. Bang Si Hyuk and Park Ji Won of Hybe, singer Lee Hyun and BTS choreographer Son Sung Deuk are among the crowd of staff and extras dancing at the end. 💜💜💜💜

This was shot in 2021 in South Korea. It was still in the midst of the pandemic but the message was not to lose hope, keep dancing, and this will end eventually. The other video: Yet to come was shot in 2022 at a desert in Las Vegas. Love your reactions 💜

This song is for everyone and to uplift how they were feeling over 18 months into the pandemic. It’s meant to be very inclusive so they use sign language in the choreography, they feature people particularly impacted by the pandemic (elderly, children, service workers, disabled, teachers, office workers - working in a disability services office, etc). It’s just a song full of kindness and good feeling. It’s not especially complex or deep but still meaningful and impactful but as a fandom we don’t particularly recommend the 3 all English songs because they are more traditional “pop” and that’s actually not representative of what their huge back catalog contains. However it does have all the elements I listed above that make it fundamentally a lovely BTS song. It makes me smile and remember all the places they performed this like the United Nations where they filmed a video.

There was a teaser to this video where Suga was reading the newspaper. One front page article said that the release of purple balloons would signal the end of the pandemic. Another article said something about the pandemic being over in '22. So that sorta explains people removing their masks.

Yeah this was still during COVID but when things started to look like it might not be too much longer, so sending hope and cheer for us to not give us dancing and enjoying life and that it would be ok - love the light they bring to us and the joy with this one. Elton John even retweeted his appreciation for the shout out and the song LOL. The pandemic never “fizzled”. The wait is over was pertaining to vaccinations being available. In America, we still have TENS OF THOUSANDS dying every week across the country from COVID😞China is losing MILLIONS still as are a lot of other countries. This song was a a mid July 2021 release. South Korea’s lockdown didn’t end until October 25, 2021, but we still had strict curfews and heavy restrictions. The government started relaxing the restrictions around March of 2022. So many of us had been so heavily restricted and constrained for so long we all got too overexcited to get out and about and party for Halloween that we got reckless and ended up crushing 158 people to death in one of our narrow alleyways (13 feet wide) as they had been compressed into a huge mass of bodies. 196 others ended up being injured.😔 Also, because of China’s massive surge in COVID the country is slowly creeping some restrictions back and even reinstating quarantine for travel.

Ima be real. Grown to enjoy this song, but this was when the Am music industry people were influencing their direction... relegating them to a non threatening pop sound. They've even mentioned how they needed to question wtf they were even doing and decided not to become what western execs wanted them be. While I enjoy the song, this is the least BTS, BTS song.

As some people said here in the comments, this was released in July 2021, as the "B Side" for Butter, as symbol of hope. What I haven't seen mentioned is that some of the imagery they included during the release (like the magazine Jimin tosses) marked the date as 2022, as a manifestation of sorts that everything would be alright by then

A funny thing is that they released the song and a few days later? We got notice that the south Korean gov asked people to stop going to dance classes and things that required heavy breathing. They did a concert and poor army had to sit still, were not allowed to shout and could only clap.

I love watching your reactions to BTS! :) I'd also like to reccomend Stray Kids, another K-pop group. They do come from a very big label in South Korea, however I find it so fascinating how they do everything by themselves with very little support from the company! The leader picked the members himself, named the groups himself, made the logo himself, and he, along with other 2 members worked on every single song in their discography as main writers and/or producers. Other members work on their songs too! Some members can even coreograph! They do quite a lot of genres too, I'd love to see your opinion on their music! For title tracks, you could start off with the more popular ones: -Gods Menu -Maniac -Thunderous -Miroh -Side Effects -My Pace -District 9 (debut song) -Hellevator (predebut song) For b-sides, I'd reccommend: -Voices -Phobia -Maze of memories -Mirror -Easy -Scars -Slump (I highly reccommend the live performance on the first take for this song!!!) Funfact: Their main dancer used to be a backround dancer for BTS!!!

Аpart from the fact that this song was written by Ed Sheeran, they also performed with it at the UN. In the dance you see at the end they use sign language they say "we don't need permission to dance". The song was released during the period when the peak of the incidence of covid fell in South Korea, the government decided to allow people to gather in groups and take off their masks on the street (although after the permission, people continued to wear them for another six months), and in some other countries they even allowed to take off masks. And just the other day, the news came out that the South Korean government wants to remove wearing masks indoors (yeah, 2023 but they are still forced to wear these masks). In fact, at that time, this song gave hope to the whole world that Covid would actually end soon.

This song was filmed in Korea! Yet to Come was filmed in Las Vegas last April when they were there for the Grammys and their 3 rd Permission To Dance Concert at the Alligent Stadium which sold out 4 shows!!
