The choreography for Permission To Dance includes international sign language. I get what you are saying, but I still enjoyed Permission To Dance. But also keep in mind BTS released BE 7 months ago which was an album in Korean aside from Dynamite and it was also an album where the members were more involved. Many people who are discussing their english tracks aren't acknowledging that album or Life Goes On at all. I'm sure on BTS next album they will be experimental. It's kind of frustrating when BTS make great music in Korean they get no radio play or western media attention and the moment they release an all english song they are on everyone's radar again. And for those who don't like their english songs BTS have over 250 Korean songs you can still enjoy, they didn't go anywhere.
I love that they think about including all fans. The fact that they incorporated sign language into this video shows their humility. In an interview, RM stated that he hopes people find them through Dynamite, Butter, or PTD and work their way back to their other songs. It is strategic and smart
Bts has released BE, abyss, snow flower, Christmas love, film out, blue side and bicycle between dynamite and butter. That’s 11 songs (sorry if I missed any) in korean/japanese. E L E V E N songs compared to 3 in English, and their discography hasn’t gone anywhere, there’s nothing to miss. This song is meant to be fun and uplifting and most of all, inclusive. I swear if I see one more person being “disappointed” because of the lack of depth, sorry to say but you’re all so annoying. Bts work so hard to give us more music than literally any other artist out there, and most of those recent ones were for free. Oh, yeah I forgot “don’t” that’s 12 songs. Y’all don’t deserve them fr
yeah i hope these mfs who were so bashful of ptd never get to see bts live EVER. i will never forgive them and those so-called armys who were questioning bts' decisions even their korean identity just bc of 3 english songs. i will never forget they did it on army day too. it was supposed to be a gift for us! so ungrateful.
THANK YOU! What's wrong with having fun songs? We KNOW that they're going to bring out a Korean album later this year with all the depth that people want. BTS brings out 3 fun songs in English, and people are 'disappointed' GEEEZ
Did he hate on the song? I don't think he did. Did he not say PTD is fun? Did he not say he will listen to it and blast it in his car? He is allowed to have his own opinion and he is allowed to voice it, which he did in a respectful manner. Not liking a new BTS song AS MUCH as other songs before and saying that - is not annoying. I, personally, like PTD as a fun, easy-to-listen summer song. Is it my favourite BTS track? No. Did BTS also release ~12 songs, partly for free? Yes. Do I like all of them? No. Does that make me a bad ARMY? F*ck no. Being a little disappointed that the new song is not in a style you like? Not annoying. Acting like anything BTS puts out is unquestionably perfect and MUST be loved and worshipped - now that is annoying. Can't we all just stop shitting on people with a different opinion and taste and act all personally offended when someone does not vibe with a song as much? Ugh! (maybe re-listen to that one once in a while?)
@@judywise3494 no, it is annoying seeing people complain about it as if they have any right to. With how much work these guys put into all their music and performances literally no “army” or anyone else for that matter has the right to be “disappointed” in bts like who do you think you are? The only thing I’m glad for is the cleanse this fandom had after ptd came out, y’all can go be disappointed somewhere else no one cares
Did you forget or miss Life Goes On & the whole BE album? These 3 songs had one purpose to bring joy to people during the pandemic. I would say they have done the job well. 👏💜 In an Entertainment article today they quoted RM as saying they might even explore singing in Spanish. They are Global artists who appreciate all their Global fans 💜 This was actually a western production by Ed Sheeran & others. We all know western music tends to have more autotune. You ought to check out the live performance 🔥
I feel like a Korean Comeback is near so we'll get a lot of stuff from them soon. I feel like Dynamite, Butter, and PTD are meant to you know just comfort us in their own ways. Sure, they don't have deeper lyrics and all those metaphors like Korean songs but we all really don't have to worry because it's BTS. You'll never catch them slipping. The KCB will be 🔥.
They're 1000000% being strategic trying to get that damn Grammy. They're doing their best to appeal to the masses so that they cannot be denied again + they're holding off on new music probably because a lot of the world is STILL experiencing horrible pandemic effects rn (S.Korea just went back into a major lockdown Monday because of record-high cases). And they want to hold on to that new music for when they promote their next tour whether it happens before/after ~ IIIFFF ever they enlist for the military. Yes they are artists that love what they do and share that love with ARMY, but they are also shareholders of one of the most successful companies in the industry, it IS a business for them, and they're trying to make history. We're lucky to be witnessing Dynamite, Butter and PTD take over the world, Enjoy it while it lasts! And to the people who say "BTS hAvE bEcOmE tOOo WeSteRniZeD" BTS: YEEEHHAAWWWW 💜🤠
100% agree. They are aiming for more radio play, which Butter finally broke through. I enjoy the boys, I think they live for performing, but at the end of the day it is a business.
Yeah there's a story for all 3 English songs, it's all the pandemic stuff. Their Korean discography is still available on streaming sites for people who miss them. They used ASL by the way, and those are the staff in the end.
Right? I struggled to put my feelings into words, and here he is, saying it out loud. I like the song, and it's growing on me. I love hearing the rappers actually sing and have multiple parts to shine in, but i'm missing something. It's my own fault, since i went into this with expectations that weren't met, instead of not expecting anything and being pleasantly surprised like always. I absolutely love the message though, and in the end that's what matters, yes?
@@mirvale87 oh man, thank goodness we know other people who can say what we are thinking but can't express! I spent the first 2-3 days after the drop commenting without even reading the room and figuring out there was such a divide. If I hadn't had expectations, I don't think I would have been compelled to analyze down to the last 808 - with all my RU-vid producer educated heart. Any issues I have are in the production and writing - never the guys, but that doesn't translate when you are on social media. Yes, the important thing is that people are happy. The sign language is so sweet, and I appreciate the efforts at diversity - especially since my marriage is interracial. When the rappers were in the spotlight as backing harmonies for the Fix You cover, my first thought was "oh my god, this blows it wide open". I think we're seeing them develop and I would be a hypocrite if I wasn't excited by a display of that!
@@flyushkifly yes :) my first reaction was pretty much "this doesn't sound like bts, it's their voices and all but, it's such an ed sheeran song." My feelings are evolving with time though. It's becoming a part of their sound for me now, and isn't the fact they keep experimenting and doing different things the part of their charm that keeps me eternally entertained in the first place? Yes, it is. And the song is so much fun. Still have to battle the voice in the back of my head that says "is this the direction they start going in?" With "and if it is?" But i'm getting there 😂👍🏻
@@mirvale87 this!!! this sums up my reaction so well. Problem is, I do not like Ed Sheeran. Never did. Does he write catchy music? I guess. Is he a nice guy? Probably. I just do not like his music... Maybe that's why I struggled with the song for the first 2-3 listens. But like you said, it grew on me, and I kind of like it now. But that's only because of BTS. They have that kind of power over me I guess. 😂
@@judywise3494 same. It's not like i don't like ed sheeran's sound. It's fine for background music. To me the whole "IF YOU DON'T LOVE THIS SONG YOU ARE A SHIT PERSON" jammed up my receptors for a bit. Then i stopped going to twitter and youtube comments for a while, and let the song itself become better little by little. It's still not my favourite, but it's good :)
They need to win a Grammy before they do their military service. I think these 3 all English songs really helped introduce them to people who would otherwise not know who BTS is, or never give their Korean songs a listen. I think they will go back to creating some songs in Korean with deep personal meaning, and rapping in the next comeback.
Not gunna lie, I teared up a bit when everyone started to take off their masks at the end. It’s such a wholesome song, it’s nice to feel hopeful after the last year or so. Edit: also, I really love your commentary on their outfits 😆
Honestly I loved the song so much it made me tear up at the end, and i did not mind the vocal effects that much. It had a synth vibe in my opinion, and i loved that this song felt like abba’s dancing queen and dont go breaking my heart by elton john since those songs are actually my taste. I can understand that people dont like the song or do not like the effect of the vocals but a lot of criticisms i notice arent even about the song its about their decisions or them not being “authentic” anymore since they didnt write these english tracks . People complain that its not in korean or the lyrics are not the usual vibe and i get tired of it because we just got abyss, snow flower in december and bicycle was released THIS YEAR not to mention BE was last year and we are most likely getting more korean music this year. So i really dont get what people are “missing” per se. Maybe they just ignored those songs. People act like these three songs are all they’ve released when they have been releasing korean music they never stopped. Not to mention, Black Swan and their philosophical songs come from BTS and their experiences and pain. At this point I think they are in such a happy place and their music is reflecting that at the moment. Like you said theres a time and place for all of the songs BTS makes. And its perfectly fine to not like BTS song, but I am tired of all this bullshit discourse (not necessarily from you) questioning their decisions when its just a matter of taste. Not to mention, they know this trojan horse strategy of releasing this kinda sound has been effective at bringing in more fans who then get a chance to dive into their korean music. At the end of the day I am glad BTS love the song and love performing it, and im glad it reached and touched the people it was supposed to, especially the deaf community. Thanks for being respectful in your reaction and i hope you get to check out the live performance on your own time and enjoy their future releases more.
Wow. I really appreciate your honesty, I mean it. Especially for bts it's really hard to find a sincere reaction like yours. I was also surprised to find this to be another fun English song without the rapline's songwriting. I guess it is due to the cancelation of all the tours as to why they are making more air-friendly easygoing songs.. As joon said few days ago, hopefully Butter and PTD would get more people to venture out for more and dive into their other Korean discography. Thanks again for your opinion!
I appreciate the way you gave your commentary, I think you have made a lot of valid criticisms and it something that I've seen a lot of people say. This is not directed at what you said, but just a comment I'd like to add. 6 of the 7 members still don't speak English at what would be considered a fluent level. I know Pdogg (Big Hit in-house producer) said in his reaction to Butter that the members are starting to get more comfortable singing in English, but I know if someone wanted me to record a full song in Korean and then consistently perform it on TV, it would have to be a super basic song. That being said, I still think these 3 english songs are not even basic compared to some of the things western artists put out, they have the BTS heart and vibe, and they still find a way to make it deep. I know other comments have said it, but this is a song to bring happiness and show that we can finally see the light at the end of this horrible tunnel, as shown on the newspaper Suga is reading in the teaser. Their further incorporation of international sign language into the choreo and carrying on the "let me show you cuz talk is cheap (butter)/ don't need to talk the talk, just walk the walk (PTD)" theme really further cements their point of actions speaking louder than words. BTS will always have deep meaning in all of the art they put out, and I'm happy they are in a good enough place mentally to put out something deep AND happy 💜
Taehyungs voice is so angelic and comforting already. They kinds ruined it with all the autotune but you need to watch the live performance to get this song without all that unnecessary cover on his vocals. Also, their smiles while performing are super precious and choreo SLAPS. You need to watch it.
I think they use so much autotune on the English songs to support pronunciation. I'm pretty sure I heard a sound engineer say that that is one of the uses for autotune, and it makes sense because they obviously don't need it for their voices.
@@lizzysmom8899 Makes sense but idk cuz personally when I first heard PTD, to me jk sounded like he was singing in Spanish for a second there "Esta tarde..." and then I couldn't rlly understand what he was saying.
@@BT7-0613 , his pronunciation at the beginning really sounds like Spanish, true. And, in this case, autotune couldn't help. I'm not a native English speaker, but I clearly understood the next RM and Jimin parts. At the same time, I still cannot catch what JK says at the beginning. :(
@@lizzysmom8899 , agreed. It was done for accent correction, obviously. The live version sounds much better, but, on the other hand, even I (not a native English speaker with my own accent) can hear that some words are really far from English pronunciation. :( It's fine for a live performance, but if they released the same sound in the MV or on Spotify, I'm sure, there'd be complains like " we can't understand your bad English, just go out". It's not fair, I know, but the boys are playing on the field that doesn't fully accept "aliens". So they try to make the difference as little as possible, I think.
Taehyung once said "I left a purple balloon in your dream. Look it up" to comfort an army on weverse. THIS MV IS VISUAL EMBODIMENT OF THAT. BTS IS TRULY THE COMFORT WE NEEDED DURING THIS TIME. THIS MV IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
I felt this is what they have to succumb to in order to get another Grammy nod. I support them no matter what. They won’t abandon or forget their roots.
Its so crazy how BTS are held at such a weird std by ppl, they have over 250 songs in korean and they release 3 songs in english, and ppl complain abt them losing their identity. Its just wow, just how everyone loves pouncing on them at every era, when they said a million times how they wanted it to be soft and fun and simple uplifting for such a bad time. I still remember this article abt how BTS has worled harder than everyone of their peers, their western peers, their kpop peers, and reached where they are. The triple amt of what is expected from any artist. The scrutiny is just endless its crazy
Oh my god thank you !! What’s weird is the way they’re erasing BE….And I remember when map of the soul 7 came out, people complained about everything but now they miss map of the soul 7 …….shadow or black Swan were too depressing but now they want a song like black swan, can’t forget what they did to ON!
I love these new songs, because this is what the world needs right now; something upbeat and happy, but I feel the same way. I love when they sing in Korean, I feel so connected to the lyrics. BTS seem to know what their fans need and we needed happy stuff. They will get back to doing music in Korean and it will be amazing as always. Let's just enjoy this for what it is, them helping us to be happy during this crazy pandemic that has everyone out of sorts and needing a pick me up.
I agree with the autotune on Taehyung's voice and some of the other as well. You should watch the live that they did of this song. You get to hear just how good all their vocals are.
Yes this is the staff including Mr Bang and the new Ceo. I miss that too, I hope they go back to writing their own music. I understand that we're still in pandemic mode but for me while songs are great my favorite is Life goes on. You could feel it in your soul. I really hope they go back to writing those songs that brought a tear to your eye even when you didn't understand a word. I love these boys but I want my old and new.
Their next full Korean album will be all those things again I think. Like you said an occasion for all the songs, PTD was released on army day so a positive feel good song fits. PTD wasn't super my cup of tea when I first heard it either, but seeing the dance practice today, how joyful they danced, I suddenly got very emotional. So I think this song was cathartic in its own way. And the Butterful Getaway and Jimmy Fallon performances are making the song grow on me.
I read somewhere that maybe they are in a headspace where they are just as tired of having to be away from army and everything else that's been going on this last year and half and might need to have a break from the deep thoughts. In that way, I hope this song can be an escape for them too. One where it's not heavy or dealing with the deeper lyricism that so much of their music does. Maybe they just wanna dance and have a good time with us for a bit. I'm happy to appreciate this song as that with them, my escape from the deep thoughts and a green light to let that go for a few minutes and dance it out. Edit to add: but the moment they drop more rap line and lyricism, I'll be so happy. I do miss that a lot. Until then, I'll escape with some dancing haha
Namjoon straight up said that the songs he is writing now are too dark and personal for bts. Non artists forget that BTS dont do concepts, they write their real feelings and stewing in them for the length that recording and promotions take is exhausting
That last behind the scenes part really was the staff! Even their bodyguards, apparently! Good call! In the video where BTS reacts to this video, they say so and even point a few of them! They said the dance was so easy everyone learnt it in a minute.
MISSING!!!! They are all STILL there. Listen to them anytime you want. BE came out less than a year ago. So next album should be due soon. So while we wait........they have been kind enough to Army.
I like the focus on essential workers and kids throughout, as well as their use of sign language in the choreography at the end. The head of WHO praised them for including hearing impaired people by using sign language.
LOL I honestly don’t understand why people are throwing fits over this song. Or “aNoTHeR EnGLiSH SoNg 🥴” They literally only have three out of their whole discography. We obviously know when they drop the next album, their comeback, we’ll get their usual deep and philosophical stuff. Until then, they’re just trying to cheer people up still which I find fantastic. I fucking love this song 💆♀️
I wonder how many of these people complaining about English lyrics refuse to read the English translations for the Korean songs? I'm gonna guess none of them. These people read ALL of the BTS songs in English all the time. It's just silly to complain.
I was thinking about why I am so sad about this whole "another english song" thing and, at least for me, it's because this is all we've been getting promos for in the past year. We got heavy promos for Dynamite, Be wasn't really my thing either and it wasn't getting as much promo and attention, then we got Film out which had no rapline, and then we got more english songs that also have non-existent rap parts. and none of it hit the same way their older stuff did. And because we are getting A LOT of content, it feels like older songs were a long time ago even though it hasn't been that long in reality.
When people says "I miss older songs." Its sounds weird. They are still here. Are you punishing yourself? And "I miss older eras" Well each era represent what they feel and/or what worlds feels. And the world right now badly needs something uplifting. It's depressing enough. But people really forgets BE exist. It was released not even a year ago. There's even japanese album out this year. Not to mention solo songs. They act like it's ten years and all BTS got just eng songs. How some complains about these songs... One of your brags about BTS is how diverse they are and how everyone can find a song for themselves. It's okay, until that song is not for your liking. So much for bragging about diversity. BTW this song may seem like just uplifting with no deep meaning, but... That's may be for you. Someone saw in the one line in the lyrics how it may be a message for people suffering from depression to hold on and not to give up. It will get better. And how ARMYS sharing about theirs friends and/or family members who has hearing health issues reacts to the MV and seeing sign language. That's so heartwarming. Again, this song may be just shaking ass for you, but for others it's a special gift. And you going about respecting your opinion, don't forget it's two way street. Some people demands respect but don't give it back to people who loves PTD.
I think what most ARMYs mean when they say that (at least I do) is that we miss new songs in their special BTS-style, the rap, the egde, the unique styles that made us fall in love with them. Sure, the old stuff is still there, and I do like Butter, PTD etc, but that does not mean that we're not allowed to wish for new songs from BTS that tie more into their old discography. I like PTD, I like the message it sends, I like that they used sign language in their choreo. It is just not my style of music at all. I only like it because it is performed by BTS. And that is okay. Doesn't it make them even more powerful, that even those who do not like Ed-Sheeran-type American pop listen to the song and can't help but like it? Maybe think of it this way. It is true that some complain about their English songs in a way that I don't get either. But nowhere in this video did he complain about the song itself? Nowhere did he disrespect the people who love PTD? Nowhere did he deny that respect is a two way street? If you got that from him, please tell me when he said that, because I do not see it.
@@judywise3494 Eng is really limited language. 'You' used not only about one person but as them. 'You' doesn't mean that I'm addressing him or one person but a couple people. He wasn't disrespectful, but some wording triggered memories of the complaining ones. So I expressed my feelings in general. Like your wording... 'us' 'we' You can't talk for us all. See, limited language. And about unique styles that made us fall in love with them... Artists evolve. You may never see the same edginess, because BTS aren't the same as they were then. They 'grow up'. They learned. They accepted. Joke then... Bicycle now.... And as fans we grow with them. Or move on if it's doesn't resonate with us anymore.
'Permission to Dance' can be re-arrange to: 'Stories On Pandemic' And the purple balloons represent hope, at the teaser we can see Suga holding newspaper it said 'Purple balloons signal the end of COVID-19'
I think they made the choreo so we can get off our butts and dance as a lot of people have become very sedintary during covid. Im always sedintary but they make me want to dance lol.
Yep, yep and yep......totally agree with you. I think this era is all about delivering joy to the masses during COVID and a smart marketing move for the international music industry. BTS are coming for their Grammy💜 I will never understand the overuse of auto tune.......the guys have amazing voices........why ??
The signs that they are doing are: **Hands alt ⬆️⬇️ on chest with thumbs up= joyful/happy **✌downwards towards palm and swing wrist back and forth=💃🕺dancing 💃 **✌upward = peace **walking fingers up arm=walk **✌touch index finger to outer eye with middle finger pointing out.(not down like posing for pictures) Then pull from eye towards who you are looking 👀= I see you/I'm watching you These are the ones sign language signs i saw immediately. I have some hearing loss and learned when I was young so I am glad to see BTS do something like this 💜
MOTS 7 and BE are 2020's albums and this year they released Film Out and other non english songs. If you miss something it's because you're NOT listening BTS discography and just react random songs. There is nothing to miss!
There are rumors that they are working on new album so we will get what we all miss. At the end those ppl were not just staff there was their chairman/ producer and CEO of hybe dancing too
I really understand what you’re saying but they are still doing things BTS style. This song has a very positive message behind it, it’s a message of hope that fits perfectly with what’s happening now. They’ve done so much that now they are allowed to make music in any style they feel like and 3 english songs in a huge discography is actually nothing. I love their Korean stuff but I also love what they are doing now 😊
I 💯 percent agree! I could if I wanted to. listen to a myriad of western pop artists, but that wasn't what made me fall in love with BTS. I love the message of this song, Jk's and Jimin's ad libs and background vocals were killer. I support them 💯 percent, streamed and purchased the 💿 but I miss the melody and the. beauty of the Korean language. Who needs Grammy and Billboard when you are the most creative talented ARTISTS in the 🌎,, when no one else is capable of doing, the melodies, meaningful lyrics and amazing vocals that BTS does. If this is what they want I will support, respect and love them. ARMY forever 💜 They deserve to do the music they want to do and what makes them happy. I miss Korean and Japanese BTS. They did prove that they can compete and win in Western pop, but who else can DOMINATE both Kpop and Western pop both? 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜But for sure BTS doesn't need anyone's "permission to dance" or anything else they want to do.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Everything you said is true, but BTS want a Grammy, the only way for them to get a Grammy is to make this kind of music. Hopefully, after they got a Grammy next year, we will get a true full Korean BTS style album.
Wow some group Singing like Michael Jackson jimin with jungkook dance and singing because Michael Jackson dance and singing voice perfect 👍❤️❤️❤️👌👌I love BTS7 and love love Michael Jackson 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️
Some artists come out with an album every 2 or 3 years and you hear nothing. In 2020 BTS released 2 Korean/1 Japanese albums along with other Korean solo work (Agust D D-2 to name but one) and people are 'missing' their Korean and rapping! Not to mention, promotion, virtual concerts, practice, award shows, Run BTS, In the Soop, the list goes on. Their 2020 was packed despite Covid. And they show no signs of slowing in 2021, still out there working for us ARMY. Give them a break!!🤟💜
I agree with a lot of points that people have made, but I want to make another one. Dynamite almost did it, Butter might do it and PTD might just seal the deal this is an intentional and very smart move on the USA public... my boys are coming for that GRAMMY!
I really pray it does not backfire on the boys🙏 - I feel if they made an all English track with the members and their in-house team contributing their unique style more to the song they would still be able to win a Grammy.
they/re definitely carefully crafting their way toward the Grammys, trying to make a point. there's this thing about perceived "boy bands", altho nominated, never actually win a Grammy. the big question is, can BTS break that ceiling? they want it and they're going for it, so I'm rooting hard for them!
@@gen1130 BTS wants one, and if that's what they want, then we'll support them. despite how any of us feel about the Grammys and how they've treated BTS, it's still viewed as one of the most prestigious awards in the entire music industry. if BTS is somehow able to win a Grammy, however, they will be the first all boy group (not collab) to win it. the rate they're going, if Grammys fail to award BTS for their unprecedented achievements, then the Grammys will nullify their relevance. it's a bold move on BTS's part.
@@gen1130 maybe could it convince the government and society that they deserve an exemption from military service based on exceptional cultural achievements?
I do miss the black swan era, too! I totally agree with you which makes me so proud of myself, because i am with you, the real musician! (I've felt you are the real pro musician since I found your youtube channel. well.. it has been...over more than a year I have been enjoying your channel. Thank you for that.) Hope there is more chance for BTS to make the kind of music..deep philosophical message in it before they join to the army for two years.
There were literally tons of armys who were ranting that this song is way too cheesy or cringey, so I was kinda worried if you would think the same😢😂 It really seems to be not every army's cup of tea, and while I like this also I look forward to their next album for they never stop to experiment a new genre and style.
I L💜VE the sign language saying fun, peace, dance 💜 a song for hope, positivity & happiness , it encourage people to enjoy life despite its problems 💜 when you see a purple balloon a new era is beginning & pandemic has ended 💜
Non of the members were credited in permission to dance. When their next album come , hopefully you’ll get that feelings/connection again! Personally, I really enjoyed the song! Thank you for your reaction 🥰
I like the mv for PtD, but the vocals were definitely over-produced / auto-tuned - I think that was an artistic choice to kind of homogenize their sound a bit. That said, the live version is so much better! I feel like the English trilogy of songs is BTS's bid to get more than a finger in the door of American radio play - maybe get a leg in, which makes me hopeful of hearing some of their Korean songs on mainstream radio one of these days. I think that has been their plan all along (besides the quest for the Grammy), especially w/ their company hooking up w/ Scooter Braun's company. Personally, I would love their first Grammy to be one of their Korean songs, but if they manage to win one w/ one of their English songs, that'd be okay, too.
I get what you’re saying. I think it’s temporary. But for now, w COVID, these vibes feel just right to me. Maybe once the states see them and listen, they can go back to their native tongue and heady themes.
People who don't like the song are mad that BTS were thinking of someone who isn't them when they wrote it. That's all it is. They want a song that makes them feel uniquely connected to BTS. That's fine, but they need to let other people have a turn feeling universally connected to a BTS.
No, that's not all it is. It's the fact that they're repeating the same genre, the vocals are distorted, there's no rap, the music is bland, the choreo is mild, there's nothing deep or impactful about this song.
@@sailorstarrr you just proved my point by listing things you personally don’t like about the song. You fail to acknowledge that there are people in the world who don’t care about auto-tune, people who have less ability than you to recognize sophisticated musical arrangement, people who are are bad at dancing, and people who do feel an impact from these lyrics. But those people are not you. So in your eyes the song is bad. It’s impossible for you to recognize that other people have different criteria than you do. There are grandmas, tiny children, people who work 15 hours a day and don’t have time to study music theory. Are they not allowed to have a song that THEY like? BTS can’t make something for them? In your world, the answer is no. They must have the same taste as you. And songs that don’t fit your personal list of criteria suck. You cannot deny the fact that plenty of people do love the song. Maybe they don’t have taste as “developed” as yours. They don’t have your amazing dance skills. So. What. They are allowed to enjoy music that meets them where they are, too. And what exactly is bland about oppositional bass notes, minor/major mid-verse chord changes, and real symphony instruments? What does it need in order to be less bland? Some 808 beats? Big drops? Major 5th instead of minor 3rd in the pre-chorus? Tell us, please. You think they should have gone with a trap beat instead of syncopated descending progression? Precisely where in the song should they place the bars you need so bad? I’m dying to know what compositional elements you use in all of your spicy global hits. There are also people in the world with even better taste and discernment in music than you. Yes, it’s true. Symphony composers, experimental jazz drummers, operatic sopranos. Some of them might consider Spring Day to be simplistic and bland compared to what THEY like. Does that mean the song is objectively bad? Of course not. It just means they don’t like it because it’s simply not for them. And most importantly, by stating such rigid, narrow criteria for what is and isn’t “good” you make a self-defeating argument. It shows that you really do not have a sophisticated taste in music. At all. You are confusing your personal likes and dislikes with objective facts. Learn to separate them. Like what you like, and just listen to it. It’s not that hard.
Bang PD and the new Hybe CEO were part of the back-up dancers in that “behind-the-scene” cut. CEO was the guy in Khaki shorts and white dress shirt. Bang PD was in all black right next to him (viewer’s left) Both were behind Hobi and Jimin. And yes, 1. JK is no longer a baby 2. I miss their Korean songs and all it entails
I get what you're missing. But then again, if we look a little closer, we recognize that there is nothing much to miss. It is just a little shift of focus. Everything ARMYs love has been given to us with 'BE'. 'Dynamite', 'Butter' and 'PTD' exist in addition to that. Of course these songs are so catchy they get all the attention and radio-play. That's okay. It's nice to get to hear BTS on the radio, even if my favourite songs don't get featured. But then, where I live, they never were. 'Dynamite' was the first BTS song that was on radio rotation. A few all-english, feel-good dance-hits every now and then, won't really change who BTS is.
Stripper Cowboy Jimin... can't say some of us would be mad about that lol Dynamite and PTD are meant to be like a feel good vibe for covid era. Also, keeping it simple is not only easy to dance to, but the choreo incorporating sign language makes it easy to follow for BTS' hearing impaired/deaf fans...BTS is very inclusive that way:) I have deaf family/friends and can tell you this means a lot (the deaf community had it very rough with the pandemic as well). Since it's looking like PTD is set to be the go-to celebratory post-covid song, I can't help but to wonder what direction they'll be going next. I love their Black Swan era also. Like I really got excited when the rap line did a bit of their thing with Butter. But I guess I'm feeling greedy for more...but you know, they're full of surprises;)
Thank u for the closing comments...u said it much more eloquently than I did in my internal rant cause as baby army I feel like I’m not allowed to say some of these thoughts out loud. Like I said, baby army and yet I miss the older stuff🤷🏻♀️ Edit: I held on to watching ur reaction cause I was worried u we’re going to do what all my other reactors did which left no room for ANY criticism. Sometimes there’s not middle ground w/ the fandom and just cause I might not be over the moon in love w/ the new song doesn’t mean that I now hate them and will stop listening to them...
Yes! I agree so much with what you said at the end. The English songs are catchy, and I loved BE for being so comforting, but I miss the harder stuff. The deeper stuff. And much as I adore rapline singing I miss actual rap in their songs T-T Like I think I would like these songs better if they were interspersed with something closer to their old stuff I do have think though that they’re putting out this stuff while the pandemic is on, and they’ll come back with the variety when they can tour with it again. They still haven’t done a tour with MOTS:7 yet Plus the poppy upbeat English tracks are good Grammy bait which like, what else are they gonna do right now?
It isn't just you. A lot of us are missing the beauty of the Korean language, the moving, poetic lyrics, and the power of the rap line. But I understand the clever marketing strategy behind this trilogy of songs, and they are very positive and catchy and fun. Chumming the waters for that reluctant, suspicious North American/English biased Megalodon, lol.
Don't forget, the "BE" album came out between "Dynamite" and "Butter". I do tend to prefer their Korean songs, but this are individual singles that have been released, not a whole album. And "Dynamite" was on the "BE" album, where all of the other songs were mostly Korean. I do get what you're saying and I even agree, for the most part, but I don't think we have any reason to worry. I'm sure that their next album that drops will be another one in Korean.
Ed Sheeran Co wrote this song with the same writers as butter. I do think these are great summer songs but these are the ones they didn't actually write and I do love their songs so much more.
It makes me so sad how many people completely missed the point. It wasn't intended to be deep or make you think. It was intended to be fun and give people a little bit of hope in a time that feels so dark. The last 2 years barely feel like they happened because they were so filled with fear and despair. I get it not being your style, but it's not really fair to expect an artist to constantly be releasing music that makes you "think." Some music is just meant to get you dancing and smiling and taking your mind off the ick for awhile.
the back of HObi the chubby guy that Bang Shiyuk and the one wearing short brown also is one of big boss of hybe ,and at the back the all brown guy their choreographer
I totally agree with what you are saying about still preferring their Korean music. I also have really enjoyed their English songs but look forward to their next Korean songs that they most likely will have a hand in writing or co-writing. I also miss their deeper, more story telling videos like BST, Fake Love, Spring Day , etc.
I agree with you 100%. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy this song but it’s not my top 10. Their bread and butter and what made me love them are their earlier stuff with more edge. This song is too poppy for me. I miss the rap lines., I miss the Korean. They can do pop like boy with luv, DNA and Airplane 2, but with a little more grit with the je ne sais quoi, the swag, if you will. That’s what I like.
I gets what you’re saying, but I think BTS is reading the room and just giving us fun vibey songs to uplift us. I think they were hit hard with COVID and not touring for MOTS7. They worked so hard on it and didn’t get to show/perform it for everyone. I truly believe they’re not finished with MOTS era topic and want to wait until things get a little more normal to revisit/conclude. I love all their stuff and I think they knew we needed something light considering everything going on in the world was already so heavy…..but I kinda think this is almost filler….until then I’m just gonna be having fun this summer with Butter and PTD, Both are bops! OH and RM mentioned they’re all also working on solo projects too…..so I’m excited for that!
I feel you. I feel like I'm missing the rap line and deep lyrics, but I have faith that we will get another album before too long, with everything we love about BTS. This song was released for ARMY for the July 9 anniversary of ARMY's formation (7/9/2013). It does have meaning to it. There is international sign language in the choreography, and it's supposed to be an uplifting hopeful song about the pandemic ending in the near future. There is a dance challenge as well. I am honestly so tired of people saying that they miss BTS Korean songs they released so much music since map of the soul seven only three of those songs were in English literally all the songs released either as solo work or bts song not in English is maps of Soul 7 the Journey (their Japanese album) and film out, BE, bicycle, sugas mix tape freaking D2, Christmas love, snow flower, eight, the remix of savage love, still with you , ioniq that freaking car commercial song (that I’m still not over!) blue side, abyss, don’t, blueberry eyes. Literally that’s basically 3 albums and 12 songs that were not only in English since most 7. That’s less than one year and a half! If you look at all the music they’ve released or collaborated with since 2020 there’s even more! That’s a ridiculous narrative I’m in tired of seeing it! How much music do they have the release in a yr ?!
Hi, I am back. Nice reaction, ty. Love this song. So fun! JK looks great with this hair style. Jimin killed his parts. Jin was so cute! Gosh. V was hot as usual. The rap line singing was beautiful! RM really surprised me. That was so fun. I adore Hobi's silver short hair. Vmin moment warmed my heart. SOPE moment thrilled me. It's just a great song u know. Yes, I like butter better but I also like this one too. =0) Bang PD and the new CEO are part of the staff at the end dancing with BTS. So cute! And someone on Twitter I think said they are being ironic with the clothes. Their basically saying is this western enough for u? lol. Their humor is really something all right, lol. Plus the hip thrust in the MV, sheesh, Lol. hugs. -Army NY USA💜 1. V once said: “I left a purple balloon in your dream, look it up" to comfort ARMY who couldn't sleep. 2. In the teaser we can see Suga hold newspaper and it said 'purple balloons signal the end of COVID-19'. It's a symbol of hope that's why they taking the masks off 😭 3. The anagram of ‘Permission to Dance‘ is 'Stories On Pandemic.' 4. They use sign language as a part of their dance choreography in ‘Permission to Dance, it's means 'fun,’ ‘dance,’ and ‘peace.’ 5. They leave messages throughout the ‘Permission to Dance’ MV in graffiti, text in the backdrop, and even visuals promoting unity and the end to Asian hate crimes.
I completely agree with you about their English songs. Too much autotune. I know it's a style choice, but personally I feel like when they are such good singers, it just detracts from their voices and makes the song sound average instead of awesome. And yes, that is why I don't want them to come out with English albums the way they do with Japanese albums. While I'm happy that the English singles are allowing them to chart and gives them a shot at the Grammys, those songs don't sound like BTS anymore. They just sound like regular American pop songs. And I'm into Kpop because I'm tired of regular American pop songs. The reason I love BTS is because their songs had so much of BTS in them. Their lyrics were so relatable because they were talking about real struggles that they have, and things that are meaningful to them. I especially liked how in their older music they also weren't afraid to speak more of their minds and take a stance about issues in the world. But it seems like the English singles aren't really written (much) or composed by BTS, and so there doesn't seem to be much of BTS's heart in them. So I'm torn. I'm happy the English songs are allowing them to gain recognition in America. I'm sad that now that's all that America wants to play when BTS's Korean songs are honestly much, much better.
