BTS' RM and Pharrell Talk + Personality Analysis | React 

RM said in an early interview, before BTS really blew up, that he thinks about the future 10, 100, 1000 times a day and not having much money behind them I can't even imagine the pressure to do well. He really felt he had 7 peoples dreams in his hands. Can you imagine that? He even used to filter and mis-translate bad comments so as not to hurt the other members. So I think RM is a product of his environment of 10 years. A communicator between the members and Big Hit, balancing the relationships within the group, pushing them forward and reigning them in when he needed to. I am sure other ARMY will agree, you really need to see more of their interactions, interviews and team dynamics before saying you really understand them even a little. We have watched them for years and they still surprise us. 💜

Love listening to RM, but he has said though that even if he might be the most fluent in English in BTS he too still has a hard time expressing himself. There are expressions, metaphors and other complex thoughts he cannot fully explain well in English, especially if talking or answering spontaneously like this. He is better in writing of course. I myself, a Filipino does still have a lot of stuff I cant translate and express as well as I would like in English, even though it is used as a medium of instruction in our school system. Imagine if non Koreans like us can truly listen to how he expresses himself in his native language, how deeper, more complex and nuanced his words would be. There are words that does not even have an equivalent in English. This happens to BTS songs too, that's why looking for better translations and explanations by Koreans is the way to go, because some translation channels dont do their lyrics justice.

Although RM talked about himself often, he just wants to bring it as a "study case" to talk about. It does not mean he is a selfish or a self oriented person. We have been watching him for about 10 years. He put his members first before him. He often positioned himself behind the other members to give them the "push" forward, to gain more confident, to show up or to develop their individuality.

When RM was talking about not being a star he was talking about his past self and he was not lying to look humble context matter and still to this day he is not the center when it comes to performing but he is still good at it

Just a little comment when you said you think RM lied to stay humble. He actually didn't, after his first audition when he was 15 he forgot all the lyrics and failed, so he decided to even shave his head I think, go back to school stop pursuing music and study. So at that time I think it was really true he didn't believe he was made to be on stage. Thank god the rapper Sleepy suggested him to meet with Bang PD etc and now it's clear, today now he clearly enjoys it, that's even probably his biggest motivation to be on stage and perform! Just wanted to bring that nuance!

Well, and this is why I hate "analyze videos" specially from people who don't know literally anything about BTS, trying to analyze them. First, RM don't need to "lie to look humble in front of Pharrell" like you said. All of the members just are humble. It's just a fact. (not to mention that context matters and he was talking about himself before signing to bighit, so of course a young boy who forgot the lyrics on the stage would think he is not and never gonna be a "front man"). Also believe me, you are not the only person here who can see what kind of a person is in front of them just by watching couple of videos. (That's why i'm curious to see your intentions with this whole BTS journey and if they can change your perspective about them. Cause what I saw from your first BTS reactions was a little concerning, from the amount of envy, doubt, judgement and other stuff from you.. But I'm still curious where are you going with this and if there gonna be progress or if it's another reactor who's trying to grow the channel using BTS and make some money using army. Hope that by seeing more of BTS they will also make you want to be a better person and you don't gonna turn out to be one of those people i just mentioned). And while this analyses of yours can work with some stereotypes, you really can't tell army anything they don't know about the boys and their personalities cause even we can't tell that we know and understand the members at 100% because we don't know them personally. But most of us, armys, can for sure tell we know them way better then you. Cause we saw them and their behavior for years and in every imaginable circumstance interacting with other different people and with each other. So there is no analyze that can tell us something we don't know. That's why i don't really understand what's the point of analyzing everything they say in one specific video when you literally don't know anything about them compared to us. Cause then you end up saying things that have no sense like "he is lying to look humble" and it's just the most ridiculous thing specially when it's about RM. And if you would know him the way we know, you would know how ridiculous it sounded. So, I know you will keep on doing wherever you want on your channel, but please, quit analyzing the boys and just enjoy the journey and their message. After watching at least half of their content (and it's TONS of content) maybe then it would have some sense making some kind of judgment/analyze and even then it's a questionable thing to do.

45:40 i wonder if others will support my thought: i think RM talks about himself more in some particular cases, because he doesn't want to assume other members feelings. He uses "we" when it is fact: we became social figures, we take out earphones after three songs. But when it comes to opinion where they are in the process of figuring themselves out, he talk about his feelings and his need to stop and doesn't say: we thought we need to stop. Also, at Festa dinner 2022 he said that he felt as if he was talking too much on behalf of the whole team and was afraid he neglected their opinions. I think it would be nice if you could react to Festa 2022 dinner. It was so emotional

No when RM said that he forgot lyrics.. it is true that's why he wasn't selected but then he was suggested to audition to BH. BUT it's true when you say that he deep down knows his stuff but doesn't shows off there and tries to stay humble cuz he knows where to show it . He's mature enough for that.he knows BTS rocks but sensible enough not to be arrogant and staying humble while being confidant.

You need to stop making assumptions w the little knowledge you have about BTS members, especially RM, as he gets the most attacks from haters/Antis. Since they are a public figure, there are many Antis who will take even the smallest of negative comments, blow it out of proportion and drag it thru dirt. As much as BTS are used to hateful comments, they’re (as RM said) still human and have feeling. If you consider yourself to be a “behavioral scientist” as you say, you should also know the consequences they might have to endure from your thoughtless, opinionated comments. Even if you retract your opinions later, it’s too late since damage is already done. So I really suggest that you take time to fully understand them before commenting based on the very few small clips or videos you’ve seen so far. Also, I’d like to point out that RM hasn’t been speaking English as much as he used to in their earlier days, due to pandemic. So he probably wasn’t able to fully express all that he could have if it had been in Korean. Additionally, he was having an interview/conversation with his Idol, someone whom he had looked up to for so long, which obviously made him that much more nervous. FYI: Even my mom, who doesn’t know anything abt BTS except them being famous, said the young man (RM) looks quite nervous. It really doesn’t take a “scientist” to figure that out lol. I really would like to ask that you truly get to know and fully understand them before making statements about their personalities, using “behavioral scientist” as your background. It took me 3-4 yrs. of daily streaming/listening to their music, watching vlives, reality shows, docus, etc., and I’m now confident enough to say that I understand them and what BTS is all about. So plz plz be mindful about the comments you put out since it goes very public. Ty

First, thank you for always giving such an interesting and easy to explain take on videos like this. I think adding in just the right of behavioral science commentary while also personally enjoying what you're watching is a good way to go. But I do think the longer you watch BTS, the more you realize that it isn't just humility, but severe imposter syndrome. Yes, they're humble. They really are. But also... (I've been a fan for 6 years and have watched/consumed literally every. single. content. they have. No exaggeration). They themselves have talked about this a lot. Jin even has a solo song called "Abyss" where he expresses that feeling. Jimin's solo song "Lie" also expresses that he feels as though he's caught in a "lie" over who he thinks he actually is versus what the fans think of him. You're right that to a degree, BTS understand that they ARE talented, that they are the "frontmen." They wouldn't be able to be so confident on stage if they were THAT self-deprecating. But they only understand it because there is data to explain it - data like album sales and concert audience numbers. But once it comes down the subjective reason as to why people find them talented, enjoy their music, and deem them worthy of love, then BTS feel like imposters. Then they feel like, "Wait, we're not actually as good as people say we are. We're just boys who love music. Why is that so special? Plenty of other people dance well, sing well, and love music. Why us?" These kind of thoughts are also heavily delved into in their serious documentary series such as Burn the Stage, Bring the Soul, and Break the Silence.

From the interview I get the impression that Pharrell watched BTS’ 2022 festa talk so I think you’d be interested in watching it as well. But some context, this was before they could openly talk about the military enlistment but were still trying to be as open as possible (they mention their desire to be open but not knowing how much they can say about certain topics). During the Yet to Come concert RM continued this point saying soon they will be as open as they usually are and later that night the military service was revealed and not long after Jin did a vlive about his song astronaut but also discussed their decisions for the past 2 years, why they felt they couldn’t talk about it, and how they felt about the controversy surrounding it. Turns out this break was originally planned for 2020 or so but they kept postponing it and made the best decisions they could given the circumstances at the time. But they’ve had very few breaks over the years (I believe only 2 that was a month or so long over 9 yrs) so this break is very needed.

for me when someone want to tell me a story or answer me i would like to listen only the necessary points ,i don't like the details cuz that would make either bored or forget the whole conversation 😁and i think I'm team RM cuz when someone talk about anything i immediately put my self in that situation and answer according the way i would feel and not according what the other people would think 🤔

I really enjoyed the conversation between Pharell and RM -- i didn't have a team RM and team Pharell mind set -- i don't believe this was set up to be a competition between the 2 artists - they both have their own perspective on fame, song writing, performing. Both are talented artists, it is interesting to hear both perspective, RM is not lying about forgetting the lyrics, that actually did happen. I thougt both artists were humble, and respectful throughout the conversation. Im looking forward to hearing their collab song.

Rm was extremally nervous because for one Pharrell is his idol. and second english is his second language. and when he speaks he know all of his fans are listening to him talk so it´s a huge pressure on him. but what i feel most from this conversation is that RM needs/wants to be himself. he don't like the pressure of being the leader and he wants to make the music that he was excited about when he was younger. that´s why he kept bringing up his past. as a kpop group you have to think about the other members too you can´t just make a rap song when some of them has to sing. and some songs needs to be slow others hype. but in his new album witch is coming soon, he said that the album will be many different types of songs not only rap and hip hop. it will be all over the place. i think he is experimenting trying to find a new sound and get excited about it. he don't want to loose his passion for music. and i think he is so brave to open up about it. knowing that his fans might be disappointed that he is not enjoying it much anymore. and it doesn't help that he is part of the biggest group in the world so it´s a huge thing to give up on. they could have kept going until military but they decided to do solo at the peak of their carrier

I think you would be interested in RMs song Persona, it talks a lot about how he feels about himself and his position as a celebrity. It is the intro to BTS map of the soul series and 1 of 3 songs by the rapline (Suga- shadow, jhope- ego) that showcases the main themes in the albums. It uses concepts from Carl Jung and it would probably be beneficial to watch DKDKTVs explanation about how they use these concepts to talk about themselves (it also explains Korean references that non Koreans typically don’t know). Many of the things he is saying in the interview, he has been discussing for years.

So I'm like RM. I always tend to answer about myself. I previously in a comment mentioned the BE BE-HIND album interviews where bts members just sat down and interviewed each other like this. There are 7 interviews of course. like the others have mentioned.. the festa videos are very interesting. I wouldn't directly jump to the 2022 version because you need background first. Maybe watch the 2018 one first and then go chronologically from there. I thought of something really fun and since you keep mentioning jhope as a extroverted decision person.. I'm going add a link of his livestream after his lollapalooza performance in chicago which he did on his own. He went live like 20 mins after the performance and jimin who flew there to support him joined his live. Both jimin and jhope are extroverted feelers(jhope esfj and jimin enfj). So this vlive is obviously very loud and fun. Its really funny to just see them always just throw compliments at each other and take in nothing. 😂😂😂 They are so extroverted feeling that they barely talk about themselves and are always talking about others or each other. And everytime they go live they both are very expressive of their feelings and borderline flirtatious (something you won't get from pairing rm and suga for ex😂). I really enjoy their dynamic. When you talked about DI people in case of loving others I guess that's what RM is. I've been watching your analysis about RM since beginning. You've said this multiple times that he is self orientation and is self above tribe thinker.. I was thinking about these sentences for idk 4-5 days ..cuz we've known the RM of the whole decade. So we know his most of ins n outs and the sentence (not as negetivly but still) him being selfish wasn't sitting well with his behaviour that we've known. For example you said about jungkook that he puts others above him and RM puts himself. But for comparison jk thinks that I'm responsible for others happiness and more like RM from the start thinks that the people around him are his responsibility and I've to be strong leader for that and he knows that he has the talent for that.RM had always been putting 6 members and ARMY as his priority till now. And him recieving complements.. he is VERY shy to receive any compliment like even such as ' you're handsome' from fans. it's just he tries to digest them. So in conclusion he wanted to be a perfect leader to lead the whole millions of people ,which he did . And for now he just wants to let out his hidden artistry and thoughts and is working hard on that. He's the best leader we've ever seen. I think they are both consistent in the way they DO talk. But remember in this video, they are actually conversing, interacting. It's not like it's on one side (like a typical interviewer and interviewee episode). RM wasn't lying like you actually said and neither is Pharrell a topic changer or hijacking the question. Normally Pharrell will answer the question asked to him by RM. It was mostly RM asking the questions at the beginning and you also said Pharrell didn't give RM a chance to speak, therefore Pharrell will naturally ask some questions back to RM to make it more interactive than just one sided. It's very normal for us humans to think that way in general. So that's why you always change your viewpoint/analysis than just looking at it in general. Sometimes it's not always in a behavioral scientist mindset that you view things but just looking at it in a general way and the way a normal human would (that is, putting yourself in their position), works well too. I hope you'll keep that in mind when you watch more of BTS' videos and understand them more in the future. You'll get to have a better understanding of RM and the rest of the BTS members than now cuz you weren't really consistent in your analysis too but it's okay 🙂. On my own opinion I like both of their personalities and speaking patterns ( I like to be balanced most times). I've been watching your reaction about BTS and I don't know why you want to judge Namjoon so quickly. Sorry to say this but most of your analysis about BTS members personalities are wrong. You really need to know them a little bit more before keep jumping into conclusion. Namjoon is not selfish and he always puts BTS and ARMY first in many, many situations. It's been many videos and people keep telling you how you are so fast to judge people and I assure you it doesn't work.

i talk about my self i can´t help it. while i am listening to others i have to ad something i have experienced to the conversation. and sometimes i talk to much and then i fell guilty and trying to ask them something again and then they start talking. i struggle with that all the time trying not to look like i am not listening to them.

I,as a korean mom😅, I always admire for their thoughtful conversation. but the translation isn't accurate.(there are so many mistranslations. korean language, tone, direct, cultural gap...etc) In this interview we can see RM was nervous. RM usually tells his opinions sincerely and frankly without reserve even in public. Some korean words cannot translate accurate because there are no words in English.. (And I also worte this comment for 10 minutes.😅😅😅😅)

I do not known where you gets it that Namjoon is selfish, the nerve. If Namjoon was selfish he would not have chose to keep the group together. Bang PD ask him solo or group. Without hesitation he said group. Also he has no reason to be telling lies, or trying to look humble. He is only talking about himself, he was asked a question. Then you saying Farell/Pharell would not remember nothing RM was saying, he was paying keen attention to what RM was saying. BTS sharing so much of their process is a part of their success and relatability (is that a real word?). I've watched your reactions to BTS and it is really interesting. I think you do a good mix of music and behavioral with interviews, speeches, etc your takes are always interesting. Please keep these inputs, that really sets your reactions appart. You actually add something. Of course you are still learning about them but it's a whole process. Also many ARMYs recommended them but Bon Voyage and In The Soop are awesome to see BTS "in the wild" or almost "ordinary" life (with still 10 cameras). BV has shorter episodes. Those series are paid content though and might get blocked on YT. Patreon, Vimeo, dropbox, dailymotion are probably the way to go. The channel ru-vid.com has a good catalogue of official BTS YT content with good subs, cause Bangtan TV did not always have English subs and many older videos still don't. Also, each year BTS gives a "Festa", a reunion, sometimes in the form of a dinner, where they celebrate their anniversary and talk. They're really interesting in terms of personalities and evolution. Hey Cyrus, you may feel weird saying Pharrell Williams or having it sound weird. It’s because the way you pronounce his name is not correct, so maybe that’s why. It’s pronounced “FA- REL, with Fa having the sound of “do re me FA so la ti do.” I hope that makes sense and helps.
