Most of the members have had some problems since they no longer live together. Their coping mechanism is gone. All the problems that now occur have to be dealt with by the individual without the laughter and casual affection that creates those positive hormonal release that dissipates negative feelings. Even J Hope has suffered. So when the various floods of problems have occurred and governmental pressure RM felt gagged by his over developed sense of responsibility. As leader everything reflects back on BTS. He became an artist to speak his truth and now he felt he could not. That is why he cannot live like that any longer.💜

I only disagree with the idea that the entertainment industry is NOT as toxic in Asia as compared to Hollywood. Burning Sun is when they got caught but the rich and elite tend to become awful no matter the country and culture. There are good and bad everywhere. BTS feels more like an anomaly in a good way! I think that's why they are so universally appreciated! I really do think RM illustrated growing up from the perspective of the underground music world to corporate. He escaped the mess because it was too much but he actually also learned how to navigate the chaos and had the immediate desire to return. Life is so up and down all of the time!

I don't think that being a leader has anything to do with it. Being a leader of group is being the leader of group, they still all of them together had to deal with same situation. Tomodachi is Japanese for friend- or plural, friends. Someone suggested that the D at the front indicates 'dance friend', which seems to be indicated in the chorus as well. Of course, knowing RM, it could just as easily be both: 'Thank you very much, my dance friend(s).' I feel like he's acknowledging that his 'dance friends' who he's very grateful for are the people who helped see him through the chaos of his career (probably the other members, as well as some other people we don't know well). And at the same time he's admitting how ambivalent he gets about being BTS. He nearly left when he was younger; he came back, but he probably feels that same impulse at times, when the negativity and pressure get overwhelming. 'Why do I do this? Why do I tolerate all this? Why don't I just ditch it all and do something that isn't so awful?' And the answer seems to be, 'Because I actually love what I do, and I love the friends who stick with me, and if I'm honest, this challenge is really exciting. It's sh*t sometimes, and it drives me crazy, but its fascinating.' I like the 'dance' aspect of it. RM came into the group expecting not to have to dance, and was actually pretty mad about it when he had to learn. But he told us that over time he began to feel like dancing was a fun, cool way of expressing himself. Now he's using the term to describe people closest to him- and if you think about it, life is a kind of a dance. Certainly fame is a dance- a dance on a tightrope. I notice he's swearing a lot in this album, and I am led to think about all the times he must have had to censor himself- not just the cursing, but the way he had to guard and analyze and select his words very carefully. I feel like his cursing is him finally getting out of that censorship-prison.

Simply put, it's a word play that he is using to mean, "Thanks Friends." Domo = thanks (casual) in Japanese. Dachi = suffix to make something plural. Tomodachi = friends "Domodachi." So freaking cool, right?!!!! When I interpret this song from that perspective it makes so much sense. He's thanking the friends that got him through. Not just in this song, but I feel it's a theme thread throughout the entire album!

"It sticks to you. Just like FAME, and the chaos it brings.. that masks itself like glamour." This is the best description for the phenomenon we believe to exist via social media. I love RM's new album and I re-interpret each song each time I listen to it. Thank you for your analysis of DOMODACHI. I think you are right on point. Visually, it is so chaotic yet I can't look away because I am mesmerized by the lyrics, eventhough I don't fully understand the original language. He reveals so much about himself through his work and we also are drawn to it because it is very relatable. I look forward to his future works of art and prose.

One also has to remember the immense pressure RM must feel and endure from ARMY....he is a performer after all and you have to cater to your fans, no matter what. That is a personal problem and choice only he can deal with. Most of us experience these issues during our lives. His message to me is clear; he wants a normal life, maybe marry? Yet he is stuck in this position of not having true freedom with BTS. For any creative person that must be excruciating to have to endure. I feel deep down he even resents his fans, but that is something he can only hint at and use other 'villains' to use as scapegoats. He could feel 'trapped' by his commitment to ARMY's love, need and adoration of him. I feel throughout this album, through the discordant, almost 'ugly' melodies he is producing, he is giving his fans the middle finger. It doesn't matter what kind of 'sh...t' he produces; the fans will just lap it up, out of loyalty to BTS. That must be devastating to his sense of honesty and integrity. At the end of the day, though, he has to live with his choices and man-up, until the end of his contract. I could be wrong, of course; if so, I sincerely apologize, RM...but you appreciate honesty above all else; don't you?

This song is a continuation of his journey. He was a respected rapper when he joined BTS and the amount of hate from his rapper "friends" was unbelievable. I saw an interview with the rappers on one side of the table and RM on the other. As they threw insults at him RM looked frozen with shock and he was unable to speak. This video starts with the dissonance of a jazz saxophone, and he goes into small, dark, places. In the end he comes out of the pipe and fiends a friend. The sun is setting and the jazz saxophone dies away. But, I think the angry kid is still there.

The MV really made me think of his song Yun. “After that the fingers pointed this way and that. But then they were pointing saying I needed to go to that mountain-that’s where you belong.” Notice in Domadachi that many men in ties/suits are pointing different ways as if giving directions. And in Yun they say “You’re gonna be alone if you insist in seeking those so called truths. You’re nothing without your team. Why would you start walking on a trail when you are cruising down a highway? Listen to me or you will lose everything. After all it’s better for you if you just go with the flow.” RM’s response talks about living the lifestyle of a stranger, a foreigner in his own country. An outsider. Then he says “my place has always been the pipeline along the border.”(Which I took at the time to mean he lived on the fringe of kpop.) Which makes sense now as his new album is about not belonging and feeling like a stranger and being out of place. In Yun he also says “but I still have a dream that is forbidden.” (always wondered if this was somehow a reference to the Korean Movie “Forbidden Dream” but do not know.) But back to the pipeline. The younger guy in the striped shirt is guided by another, older youth into a literal pipeline. He gets out of the pipeline only to show trains going by super fast as businessmen oversee the trains. The fast pace and business side of K-pop? Then he and his friend are stuck like sardines on the train with all those business people. He also sees people standing uniform in a line. (Is this traditional K-pop, shareholders or people in general wanting whatever he can give? Not sure here.) Above the pipeline there is a pandemonium type situation in deep orange and even a firework shot. Which lends itself to the Yun lyric “twinkling fireworks will eventually fall someday” or as some have translated “be rendered down to the ground”. RM continues in Yun with “so render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s a heart burnt black. Yet I write poetry sitting on the ashes.” Some similar thoughts are also shared in “Wildflower.” Either way I believe Yun and Domadachi are very connected and makes me want to go back to see what else might intersect with RPWP. There are others, but Yun really came to mind when I first saw the Domadachi MV.

When I listened to the song and then your interpretation, it brought me back to the 2022 Festa when they announced the pause in group activities and the beginning of their solo chapter. He was so emotional and some what confused in who he currently was and what's next. That was such a difficult and chaotic time for him and his band mates. He had to deal with the military issue and I'm sure concerned if army would accept the solo activities and wait until after enlistment. Hopefully he knows that we are here and always will be! I want him to relax and enjoy life's journey and just be himself. In the video when he comes back to the friend I see the friend as us, Army! Domodachi, Out of love and RPWP are my favorite songs from his album. Domodachi indeed feels like eruption of emotion, anger, frustration and confusion, but I'm talking only about how music and raping felt like without knowing lyrics or seeing MV. Domodachi is RM's Himizu, this is how I see it (Himizu - film masterpiece made by Japanese director Sion Sono). Remember when Himizu, completely dehumanised, abused and emotionally broken as he was, looses it, takes the knife and goes around to kill everything evil, dirty, bad, fake? That's it. That's what Domodachi is for me. It expresses similar heavy pressure, anger and pain that made RM erupt, just like teenager Himizu erupted under the weight of unbarable pain, chaos that pushed his young life on very edge of existence, and pressure imposed to young boy that had to become adult too early and too fast. This is what I hear. Do I hear it right or not - only RM knows answer to this question, I don't. But Domodachi is in my book of things RM's Himizu.

I also was thinking of his discussion with Jimin and when Jimin asked if he was ready to get back to being the leader of BTS and he said no. I also thought the chaos and men holding onto him was his success with BTS and the boy helping him and then letting him go was like the BTS members helping him get through and then being understanding that he needed to get out but then he goes back because I think he couldn’t leave BTS alone in the chaos.

I had a difficult time with this one too. I knew the word Domodachi meant something more. I like that the thought line is imcomplete, this is how we feel when we don't want answer and really can't see how it will end of stop. It is not like a puzzle with a last piece to make it whole. Sometimes you just want to be heard, not given solutions. As far as the adventure... its true, we alwayswant to doit or to see it all again. It's kind of like "Thank You", tongue in cheek sarcastic,... "not really".

When I watched and listened/read the captions etc my first impression was this give off an air of someone being confused, angry but unwilling to remove themselves completely from the environment. That maybe because part of them enjoyed it and still wanted to explore further, that it both called to them while it confused and angered them.

After listening to Domodachi the first 24 hours or so I went to post my interpretation on the MV. I wanted to do it before reading others... and I came away thinking pretty much the same as you... that it was a commentary on what young people go through in the entertainment industry, including himself. The title to me... Domodachi is said in sarcasm or frustration.but also in truth. As for the boys at the start... I got the idea that they are both versions of Namjoon in his multiverse idea. They are both on bikes (his favorite mode of transportation).... As they pass the drum set and the sun is setting they are heading toward the chaos of the music industry where it is night. A father-like figure stops one of the boys. If you remember RM's parents tried to dissuade him from this path. So to me the other boy is also him.... the him that listened to his parents. When he escapes... the other him is waiting... it is now dawn of a new day (realization). And once there he decides to return. As he mentioned to Jimin... in this multiverse he thinks they did end up in the best possible version. Yes they went through a lot of hard times... but at the end they have done well and achieved much. As he said.... it was all he went through a member and as leader of BTS that purchased his ability to speak now as Namjoon in RPWP. If he had to choose... He would do it all again. It doesn't mean he doesn't think there could be changes to protect the youth going forward.

The depth by which he expressed himself is never heard of. But inside those lyrics he has messages that could only be read by the earnest souls whi can connect to this rare individual. Namjoon is rare. No one can capture those emotions like him. In the MMM, he asked Jimin to have a listen to his songs. He knows Jimin would understand because Jimin is himself an empath. Well, you made me feel better cause I felt like you that RM was telling us about the chaos that he felt he had to go threw when he first began with BTS. I thought he went back because of the members, that he felt he couldn't leave them on their own. He went thru all the chaos because he was the Leader and he didn't take that lightly. I got the impression that the person that lead him out so many times , could have been Bang PD. He had to stay in the chaos because he ran the Company. They always said he was like a father to them, and a father leads their kids thru the chaos in life, helps them see who is real and who is not. They show us, but we have to believe it and walk thru it on mostly our own. But also like you said, RM could mean so many things, his mind is always going over things and many times there are 3 or even 4 meanings on his words. Thank you for your interpretation. Gosh there are so many things to think about with this...gets the juices flowing, RM is so freaking brilliant, lol. OK, so here is what I think: I see the boy wanting to move forward with his music and goes into tunnel (the music industry) thinking at the time that it would be an adventure. But what he found was chaos. He avoids the worst of it as much as he can (in the pipes finding a way around it), but he gets swept up in the rat race like everyone else (on the train) doing what society expects with higher ups looking down on them (people looking down on the train-reminded me of Snowpiercer). They are pushing and pulling him in all kinds of ways and his friend is trying to lead him to safety. The train crashes and the conductor, who is outside of the train, seems surprised, but should he be? The train was going way too fast.(I picture the conductor as Bang PD) When he is led to the gate and climbs over, he hesitates at the top looking down at the one who led him out of the chaos, feeling uncertainty? But he jumps down and walks out slowly, thoughtfully, does he feel regret? For himself, or for others he left behind? Probably both of them. But as he begins to walk away from that dark tunnel with his friend he looks back, not wanting/able to just give up, so he turns around and goes back into the abyss of what is the music industry and adult society.

If he enlisted with Hobi, as originally planned, he would not have been able to do this album. He needed this for himself. This album + the enlistment seems to be a welcome and needed opportunity for him to do something he wants, do something new, breathe. I hope he knows his feelings are valid and we understand and will forever support him and each of the boys. At this point in their careers, whatever they do next, i hope they take it a little easier. I mean, they have proven themselves over and over again. There will be bashers... so what? .... Lastly I wish for them too, V's wish ---- for them to go see the Northern Lights once they get back together.

Thank you for sharing your reaction to this song, the chorus drew me in to take a closer look at the literal translation. In Japanese, the chorus "Minna domodachi koko-de, odori mashoo" is literally, "All friends here, let's dance" Minna = everyone or all Domodachi where the character used is tomodachi = friend Koko = here Odori = dance Mashoo = the verb becomes "let's or together _____", in this case, "let's dance". In Japanese, the "to" in Hiragana (and Katakana) Japanese writing, the character for "to" in tomodachi becomes "do" with an upper right hand marking that looks like ", but it isn't a quotation mark in Japanese, it just changes the t to a d sound.

I absolutely love 'Come Back To Me.' you are my pain, divine, divine. the pleasure we derive out of a painful situation that we are addicted to - "come back to me like u used to," the addiction calling to you, pulling you near for more bc u can't find a way to let go. Each time trying to recreate that 1st "high," or 1st experience that felt divine. but then over time, the pain of the situation becomes the dominant feelings, and the divine effect more & more elusive & evasive. Anyway - so sorry for this major tangent here. LOL. I just luv all these songs. It feels to me like he's eeaving us through his past 5 years. And ea song are different realizations, different parts of the puzzle. And, then, when its all finished, we have a painting of the scene. A masterpiece, imho. My 1st thought after listening to these songs was, "His touring EU viewing art, going to all those museums, did him good." To me, this album is like Art put to music. Like if you were to try and put Kandinsky or Renee Magrite onto sheet music. It's chaotic, messy, confused, erratic brush strokes, untethered - but still recognizable by definition and beautiful by it's form.

I wonder if Joonie is thankful that he has some good friends that will be there for and friends that would help him out if he is in trouble. I was thinking the beginning was more of a quiet life not in the music industry. But he wants to be following his dream but it is a very chaotic life. He might have thought he want to give it all up and go back to the quite life but then he love for music made him stop and turn back to the chaotic life again. 💜 but I wish that everytime he comes back to the joy of music again that he is stronger at dealing with the issues that is there. We are very blessed to have him and the other members making good music for everyone. I wish for all the members to be mentally strong and good health for what the future holds for them.💜

At Fiesta 2022, RM did seem lost. Maybe confused is a better word. He said there was a lot he wanted to say to ARMY but they cant share everything. I can understand his disconnect or confusion. They were "splitting up" to do solo projects. Where does that leave a leader? He has been doing it for so long, who is RM? Who is he supposed to lead now? Ask Suga not to be a rapper for .... the next two years .... or forever. Will these boys, that will return as men, need a leader? Also, i can't imagine the stress he must have felt being that leader. The one always pointed out that speaks English and the weight of chosing his words and actions to best represent the guys and BTS all the time. I am so impressed by RM with this album. To be able to express his anxieties, angry and pain in this way was hopefully the release he needed. To be able to speak his mind not what others expected of him. He is a master at his craft of rapping and writing. So proud.

So basically he is letting us know what he has gone through emotionally in the past and whats has made him who he is today...Suga as Agus D did the same with going right back to when he was born until where he is now.I think its great that we are getting the perspective of the members and we are being let into how they have accomplished so much through struggles....Good for them ,i am glad they do there own solo work and have the freedom to do it,I doubt other companies will let there groups be so free with there speach,Being an artist is about evolving your tallents and speaking your truth or that of many important things you stand for and want to say....thats what i believe anyway.

I actually agree with your interpretation of this song, it’s exactly how I viewed it, the good friends, the men representing possible Leaches in their world, the tunnel could also represent the fact that they have to constantly hide from the media as they target them, In the end I thought he was given a choice to go with his friend that waited for him to a calmer life, or return to the chaos of BTS, and he chose, BTS. That’s what my eyes saw anyway. Either way I love that people explore and interpret his music their own way. Love your content .. absolutely proud of RM.

This album iof RMs is awesome. However I get a feeling of sadness when listening to it. I feel like RM has taken this opportunity to just throw up all of his frustrations through the years. It makes me feel like it was a catharsis for him. I’m thinking of his frustration in the last Festa from 2022 his tears he was trying hold back. It makes me understand what he has been suffering through silently which makes me love him even more. He told everybody offf people trying to tell him a grown man what to do with his life like he is stupid or in need of a mother from the political faction the media and some fans. I could be wrong but that’s what I got from the whole album. It’s beautiful and kind of sad at the same time.

To be honest, domodachi is the song i hardly can enjoy in the whole title… turns put it is an angry jazz rap. No wonder. Hahahaha. It was so hard to digest. Wether the song, the lyrics, or the visual MV. all are something that i dont want to comeback to because it related to my dark past….. i just recognize that RM is on the same phase of life that i have been through back then. I hope he went thru it and came out as a winner. It is a very personal song about him struggle. Thank you for dissecting this hard song

I’m not going to try and understand every word he’s uttered in this album, or pretend to understand it in its entirety. What’s important to me is that Namjoon had a reason to make this album, and that is enough for me. If it helped him negotiate whatever he was feeling, whatever he was thinking and hurting from, I am with him every step of the way. Having said that, from a sonic and lyrical viewpoint the album is mesmerising. While it arose from a place of pain, the artist in Namjoon is also very very visible here. That’s why he’s my man, and always will be!

I don't know exactly what Domodachi means but I do find it borderline disturbing. For me it reinforced my belief that inspite of dimple smiling RM we are used to seeing there was a world of hurt and disillusionment he was experiencing. The video and song is telling his story, It's cathartic release. I'm glad he is able and willing to do so because if he couldn't I believe he would be another idol tha commits suicide. You mentioned the documentary Quiet On The Set. Unfortunately that type of behavior is rampant in the entertainment industry globally as well. Asian countries don't get a pass. There was Burning Sun scandal and the most horrific to date that we know of is the Godfather of JPOP Johnny Kitagawa who used his entertainment agency from 1970 to 2010 to SA the boys under his lable. Predators are present in all cultures the difference is how it is reported. I'm sure BTS had to deal with similar situations. Now add people like MHJ and the other crazy people trying to destroy RM and BTS, RM was constantly walking through a minefield. How he has kept his sanity is more than amazing. I believe the boy in the video went back for the same reason RM is still in the game. With the help of others and most importantly himself he has learned how to survive inspite of all the negatives. As long as he has the ability to create his music and receive the acknowledgement for it (vanity, pride) he can go on. It is very addictive.

Unfortunately, the Asian entertainment industries are actually worse because they model themselves on older Hollywood - in terms of systems, rules, and how they run - as bad as Hollywood still is, we have to remember that at least SOME OF these crimes are still being exposed, in the past it was so powerful that only extreme cases (Like Black Dahlia) would even get to the public, and majority has no resolution of perps being caught and punished. I fear it’s like that in most Asian countries at the moment, we don’t hear as many cases as in Hollywood, because the people are even MORE powerful and even MORE connected in these countries and the crimes (or at least the probability of facing consequences) is worse …… young actors are still dying mysteriously all the time in Bollywood.

yes, RM is never simple. his mind is so complex. society seems to be moving in a scary direction. I think RM feels it deeply. he certainly makes it clear with this album that there are some who have latched onto him particularly for what he can give them, without giving back. the people who help without demanding recompense...those people are the ones who we should return to and hold on to.

This is a very interesting take on things. I have not listed to the song because I find the songs i did listened to a bit unsettling. Thank you, I really appreciate the breakdown here as it helps me avoid listening. If you were slightly unsettled, i'll be rattled, LOL. Music is too visceral for me to take lightly. This is the reason why I have been Army for 8 months but I didn't start listening to BTS for 3 of those months. LOL. I was watching run BTS and all the other cool videos online. They are hilarious. 🤣 Also, I am a devoted metalhead. I've been against any sort of rap from the very beginning. (THOSE bstrds ruined my MTV!) I didn't like the messages. At least in metal its not just spitting out gratuitous violence and gross or demeaning s&x. So once I finally said ok ill listen, I was very surprised and now I am Suga's biggest fan, lol. His messages and delivery are amazing. BTS music is amazing too but Suga's music really speaks to me. It's also because if you listen it's very akin to metal. Some parts are directly metal. I love it! :)

Typical RM, lol, tons to think about and decipher. It's not a fast-food snack you can sing-along in the car. I don't find it easy to listen to BUT it is something to ponder about, reflect, feel the message. How timely it seems to be when another group's success is being claimed by someone who is NOT even singing, dancing or writing the music or lyrics for the group. I don't want to undermine the work of managing, directing and "teaching" a new group but taking credit for a group's success is, imh, too much. I am so glad BTS had Bang PD and were able to write their own songs around concepts they wanted to convey. The world would be less without their important message from their generation and their part of the world. Thank you RM for your honesty... and so glad he has moved beyond that stage in his life. I cannot wait to see what the military experience has brought them up to realise.

However a good Leader will get a gather helpers those who they can trust, teach and discuss things with. That's the model I've been used to and the model I use that why their are checks and balances and it takes some weight off the shoulders of The Leader.
