One thing to note is that although South Korea is a democracy, they do not have free speech laws as we have here. So any artist could potentially be "silenced" by the government. So BTS had to crouch the criticism in the form of music that can be interpreted in multiple ways. The government at the time (including the office of President) actively tried to suppress their failures in the Sewol Tragedy.

When you were talking abt people getting mad and there being rage for insignificant things but noted that great things have come from confrontation, do you know BTS has a song that talks about those same things? You got to check it out, the name is UGH!

This song is the most streamed on Melon chart, most liked on melon chart and have the highest unique listeners on Melon chart. This song is a pain that I will continue to exhale. I love this song

Spring Day is our eternal Queen not just because it addresses such an important topic but because many ARMY have found it to be a song of healing. I lost my mother in 2002 after she had been sick for over half of my life but until I found BTS in 2021 & found Spring Day I had yet to actually morn her & through this song I have finally found peace with her loss & now look forward to my Spring Day when I see her & my other lost loved ones when my time comes.

I'm a Korean. There is a part that many people misunderstand, so I'll just tell you that. The scene where V puts his head on the track at the beginning of the 'Spring Day' music video does not imply suicide. In Korea, if you put your head, especially your ears, on the railroad tracks, you can tell by sound whether a train is coming from afar or not. So, in the very next scene, there is a train scene with Jungkook along with the sound of the train. Also, the season V is in is winter, and it also means to wait for the next season, spring (train).
@steph0711

THANK YOU!! I am not Korean, but even I could tell that's what he was doing and I'm always a bit disappointed when someone doesn't get that
@flyushkifly
@flyushkifly 9 месяцев назад
It can mean both, though, and many other things. Listening for the coming train can represent loneliness and longing - reaching out to hear the presence of something/someone. It is also risky, so being apathetic to your own safety is not far from *death ideation* or intent. One can think about dying, wish for death, or plan, but not intend to execute, suicide. We know Tae's character is melancholy - to what degree, we don't know, but all things are possible.

Creo que lo relacionan con el suicidio porque hay gente que espero la llegada de un tren para tirarse a las vías y morir... NO DIGO QUE ES ESO LO QUE V TRATO INTERPRETO EN EL VIDEO ,OJO
@hrinn.jeans.4672
@hrinn.jeans.4672 9 месяцев назад
I am not objecting to your interpretation. I wanted to say that in Korea, if you put your head on the train track and hear it, it means hearing the sound of a train (or spring) coming from far away. Your interpretation makes sense too. have a good day.@@sarassawan8667 😘😘😘

@@RNTVThe MV explanation only covers the very surface details of this horrific tragedy unfortunately and not the full truth and the incredibly cruel events that had happened and I really wish more people would read or watch videos about the full story like Rotten Mango's video about the Jewol Ferry Incident to learn about what had actually happened and how cruel and horrifying it actually was. More people need to be aware of this incident and far too many people only know about the basics of this tragedy by watching short videos like the Spring Day explanation and that is a shame. This wasn't just a freak accident, it was an incredibly monstrous series of intentional events that had lead to the deaths of hundreds of innocent people that had lost their lives way too soon.

Watch the Italian Army's documentary. The families could see the ferry from shore, it was very close. The authorities wouldn't let anyone get on to save people so they watched the ferry sink very slowly for hours and hours as people were beating on the portholes trying to get out. The friends and families saw their loved ones die as the captain and crew sat by drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and harassing those who took boats out to the ferry to try and do something, anything to get those people off. Hearing the wails of the mothers and fathers forced to stay on shore and chased away from saving their children stays with me. The full story is incredibly cruel.

The song itself is not about the tragedy, but about loss and grief. The video, however is about the Sewol ferry tragedy. It was only confirmed by BTS in late 2020 in an interview. There is another explanation, by Italian ARMY that is even more heartbreaking. Italian ARMY's explanation goes more into the actual tragedy and includes footage from the tragedy, from the parents begging someone to save their children and even a clip from inside the sinking ship, where a man can be heard making an announcement that strongly urges the passengers on the ferry to stay put. The video also goes into the cause of the tragedy and it's aftermath. If you guys are strong enough to watch something like that, I highly recommend it, but it's okay if you aren't able to. That explanation video is so detailed and heart wrenching that there are a number of people who can't watch the whole thing. There are also even more details in the MV that indicate that it represents the Sewol ferry sinking than are pointed out in this video. The boys even performed Spring Day on an award show one time, and the stage was made to look as if it was on the bottom of the sea. Also, you were talking about the people with fake anger, pitching a fit over nothing. BTS has a rap line song, Ugh!, that actually addresses that type of thing. If you want to watch a lyric video of the song, there's also an explained video, Explained by a Korean by DKDKTV. That channel is very good at explaining Korean cultural references that non-Koreans aren't going to understand. BTS songs and videos really are incredible.

I disagree. The Anglicised version of the line translated "How many more nights do I have to stay up?" (몇 밤을 더 새워야) is "Myeot bam-eul deo SEWO-ya?" (I spell it this way, in order to be consistent with the same conventions of anglicization as "Sewol", which would often be anglicised as "saeweol" instead of "sewol". You have to look at the Korean script itself if you are not proficient in Korean, and when you do, you will notice that the only difference between the name of the ferry (새월) and the Korean verb 새워 is that the latter doesn't have that final letter ㄹ that is contained in 새월.) An odd similarity between the Korean word meaning "stay up" (SEWO) and the name of the ferry itself, don't you think? The irony is that the Sewol sunk while the Korean word "SEWO" means "stay up". This is poetry of the finest kind, and it clearly points to this tragedy. The timing of the tragedy was during the cherry blossom festivals in Korea, so there is another link. I believe Biblical allusions are underlying the song, because both the crucifixion and the resurrection occurred in spring, as do the "holy days" commemorating them. Yeshua and his followers were also heavily persecuted and killed unjustly. But Yeshua resurrected, and his resurrection is meant to prefigure our own "on the third day" as Hosea prophecies in Hos. 6:2, except in our case it is after 2 thousand years rather than after 2 days.

💜🙏Thank you for sharing your heartfelt reaction to Spring Day...... I want to share with you a comment to another reactor from a survivor of the Sewol disaster.. I would like you to hear from him just how BTS has healed him through this song and the messages they have: His name is Chilo Abellon - and this is his public comment in full - unedited - from 2 years ago.......... "I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?. Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things. The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve - My name is Chilo one of the survivors of the sewol ferry incident." I truly hope he does not mind me passing on his public comment - but this best shows the power of BTS message. The worst thing about the disaster - the captain and crew fled the ship the morning 9.35 - the ferry did not sink until the night - they left the warning to "not move and stay still" playing on a loop through the ship. Only the children that disobeyed the warning survived. The others drowned as they were so ingrained to listen to authority. The civilian boats that attempted to rescue people were stopped by the coast guard as people would discover the boat was illegally overloaded. Parents on the shore were receiving desperate calls and texts from their children begging for help. And the coastguard did nothing. The only rescue the coastguard made that day was the captain and crew... The people that got rescued were rescued by fishing vessels that got there first before they were stopped...3 years the ferry lay at the bottom as the Govt would not raise it for fear of discovering the truth.... They found video footage taken on mobile phones that were recovered of children wishing their families goodbye. One of the civilian rescue divers later committed suicide after having to recover so many childrens bodies knowing that he could have saved them but was forcibly stopped. As a parent I could not comprehend having to live through such a thing. Horrific that your own goverment would perpetrate and then cover up such a incident... jailing dissenters for protesting. It was proven that there were high officials with financial interests in the ferry. The president colluded with them to bury the truth and hamper investigations... 10000 people in the public eye (reporters, artists, etc) put on a Govt blacklist for speaking about it. BTS went and paid respects to the parents of the victims in 2014 when the tragedy occured. No Cameras - No fanfair - just doing what was right...They also donated approx $100,000 (that year they only earnt $300,000 - they gave 1/3 of their earnings) to help the parents in their fight for justice.... We only found out about the donation years later as one of the parents was sick of all the hatred BTS was always getting and wanted others to know just how decent they are. The MV, The album cover, The choreography all relate back to the Sewol. But The song is about missing anyone you love and are separated from. They have since been singing Spring Day during the panademic as the world is now longing for a spring day. Spring Day has never left the music charts, to this day it is still in the top 100 charts.... almost 7 years later and this song still speaks to people everywhere. I highly recommend ItalianARMY explanation video "What you still don't know about BTS Spring Day MV" but it is very hard to watch. Footage of the parents begging the coast guard to save their children shattered me.... She actually travelled to South Korea to speak with the parents and compile the video. Sorry this is so long - but I really wanted to pass his comment and information to you relating to your Spring Day Explained video.... with posting your reaction you have helped keep the memory of Sewol alive and maybe others who do not know of it will learn of the tragedy. Thank you for sharing your journey, and helping to spread BTS message.. You are a really nice couple. Sending greetings and love from Australia... BORAHAE💜 #WeNeverWalkAlone

I am glad this personnel comment explains too, the much of what I too read and heard about 3 year later when RM first submitted his song « Spring Day » and other songs and raps by other artists in conjunction to the public’s demand for the impeachment of the President, what was learned about was just appalling that in this day and age high government officials and the Coast Guard were untrained & stupid. You definitely see just how intellectual RM is. I heard many ARMIES, (as well as myself) watched the Movie ‘Snowpiercer’ and read the book …’Omales’ for the first time. The Director is also the same for the movie ‘Parasite’

Yeah, if you watched the explanation by an Italian army you both would be bawling. It shows clips from the incident, parents begging the coast guard to even save 1 child, the locals trying to rescue people but we’re turned away by the coast guard and the police, a letter from a grieving mother to her son who drowned, the protest march to oust the present and finally succeeding and so on. I’ve had seen men breakdown and cry, or so angry that they had to leave the room to compose themselves , heard them talk about the ways they could have kept the ferry from sinking. It always squeezes the heart with iron hands when watching it. After the Italian army posted her explanation video she was invited by the families of the victims to come to Korea and participated in the memorial and participated in a symposium. The families of the ferry tragedy were invited to go to England to meet with the families if a tragedy that occurred at a soccer stadium where about 95-100 people were killed in a fire because the stadium people locked the doors to exits. They called their memorial “You Never Walk Alone” and that’s where BTS got their inspiration for the same title in the mv, the carousel scene. Great reaction guys!

The clock in the laundromat is set at the exact time the last part of the Frey disappeared under the water. The students were able to talk via their phones with their parents as the ferry tilted, thinking that rescuers were on their way. There are videos that they took while the ship moved onto its side and the water was creeping in. One boy was worried that his new Nikes would get wet. Jimin is holding a pair of shoes on the beach and in the laundromat. After the sinking a group got together and bought 250 pairs of Nikes and laid them out along the shoreline so the kids would have new shoes when they went to heaven.

The worst part is that many of the phones were waterproof so they were able to see footage taken by the students as the ferry sunk and they drowned. One student even comments on video that it felt to her like a similar tragedy where students ended up dying in a subway accident because again, they were told by authorities to sit tight and not evacuate. She had no idea how true she was. And then, even after the ferry sank, there were still air pockets inside, which allowed some students to stay alive. They desperately called emergency services to be rescued but the operators thought it was a prank call and ignored them.

This explanation video was good as well but the explanation from Italian Army hits different,she even include some actual footage of the parents begging and how the government oppressed them. I cried hard that I can't even breath when I watched it. The fact that the parents begged to save even one of them was heartbreaking. There are many volunteer divers who wanted to help but the coast guard block them and even cut some of their equipment. After the incident one of the volunteer divers even committed suicide because of the painful situation he saw inside the ship while retrieving the body's of the students. Those who survived was the ones who didn't listened and find a way to escape. Spring day always has a special place in my heart. The Italian explanation has more details and even more heartbreaking but so worth watching. It explains why the ferry had this accident. It was greed and corruption and the ferry was way overloaded. When this happened BTS and Bang PD visited the memorial site privately so they would have no publicity. You may want to watch that one off camera. Lots of tears and appreciate for this reaction.

Just to add to this - here in the UK we had the Hillsborough tragedy where 96 people, including children, died due to crushing at a soccer stadium. They also had a yellow ribbon campaign and one of their fan songs was 'You'll Never Walk Alone' the same words written across the top of Jungkook's rusty merry-go-round in the video. I believe that some of the Sewol families from Korea visited with the Hillsborough families in the UK. In both tragedies it was found that the people responsible, including police, tried to hush things up and put the blame on the victims. We will never forget.💛💛💛💛💛💛💜

Thanks for the reaction. Another thing about the Sewol Ferry Tragedy was that the former South Korean president (who was impeached in 2016) used to blacklist celebrities and artists who spoke out about the tragedy and the govt's failed response, including Director Bong Joon-ho who famously directed "Snowpiercer" and "Parasite", the Korean film that won an Oscar in 2020. In fact, BTS secretly made a donation to Serry victims in 2014 even when they were no where near as big and rich as they are now, but no one knew about it until a few years later. BTS has quite a few songs that feature social commentary including their song "Am I Wrong".

Every korean student at my school was shocked that something like this could happen and were all waiting for good news from the rescue team. Sadly, we all know that didn't happen though.

Guys, I really really recommend whatching the Italian Army explained version, she even went to Korea to meet the families and did a very thorough investigation on what happend through the tragedy, and how government and media handled the situation. She also talked about how the boys and bighit went in deep with the families during the dark times, and how risky of a move was doing that a d the song itself. Love your reactions! Sorry for my broken english btw.

The Italian Army's version is really hard to watch, though, since it includes video footage as the tragedy was unfolding. There are several reactors who couldn't even finish it because it was so upsetting, and we should respect their choice whether or not they feel they can sit through it.

@@HanabiMM That is very true. I think it is a good option if they want to have a bigger picture of all the things that happened and how itis connected to the song. But it can definitely be a very triggering video. At the end of the day it's up to them as they know how they handle emotional and triggering situations, I just don't really love this explanation video because it misses out in a lot of the context and important facts that are embedded in both the video and the song, and It makes it seem sometimes as if they are the creator's opinions instead of facts. I don't know if I'm making any sense right know, I'm struggling haha. Anyways, I respect any decision that they make because their mental health is more important than a reaction video. 😊

You are correct Jess... BTS have always spoken about topics that are deemed 'unpopular' and whilst the song itself isn't strictly written for the Sewol incident, the MV has been proven to be... Just one of the reasons that we love them... always standing up and with the people who deserve it and only spreading positivity to everyone who may not be able to stand forward for themselves.. regardless of where they are in the world. RM has spoken about their message not being determined by race, colour, demographic, gender... it's for EVERYONE. BTS have been brave since being very young, if you alter the Korean age to International age the group were basically 14-18/19yrs old at debut.... for them to have been able to speak in lyrics the way that they have always done is just another aspect that makes them so unique....Some 'people' say BTS are 'dangerous' and when you see how powerful they are, with an Army behind them after more than 10 yrs... no wonder. This is always a tough one.. thank you for being so open and honest with your feelings and showing such respect for the work and the survivors. Much appreciated 💜Borahae💜

The Sewol victims are held in memory and Army has kept the song on the Korean charts every week since it was released in 2016. It’s both a heartbreaking song but it’s also helped me with grief over lost family members. BTS has never been shy about social commentary and calling out systems. On the same album is another song Am I Wrong, where they specifically call out a politician who called citizens “dogs and pigs” even incorporating this into the choreography and performed it on TV. As far as interpretation they use the Motel called Omelas only one thing the short story uses that name. They directly referenced Snow Piecer. The rest is subtle because govt blacklisting is real in Korea so they ride a line of not being direct but many many references to the tragedy. They also openly supported and donated to the families. Every Army is one “Bogoshipda” in the chorus away from crying. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our queen.

It took incredible courage for BTS and BigHit to produce a music video like this while living under President Park Geun-hye's administration. She was a very authoritarian-leaning president, though she was freely and fairly elected. You should also check out their song "Am I Wrong?" and the explained, because it's a direct clap-back at one of her cabinet ministers who called the Korean people "pigs and dogs" and said that they "don't understand what we're trying to do for them" (by reducing their civil liberties). During this time, news came out that the Park administration had a blacklist of over 9,000 artists (painters, musicians, writers, actors, etc.) who were politically active or had said/done something the president's team didn't like. If you were on the list, you couldn't participate in any government-funded opportunities and the government leaned on broadcast companies to exclude those artists from shows. Donating money to the Sewol Families Fund was one thing that would put you on the blacklist. Anything to do with Sewol was politically explosive, because it wasn't a "freak accident" - the ferry was illegally carrying cargo containers on the top deck, when it was supposed to just carry passengers, because the ferry company wanted to make more money. Government inspectors allegedly were bribed to look the other way. When BTS and Bang Si-Hyuk heard about the blacklist, each member immediately donated 10,000,000 won ($8,800) individually to the Sewol Familes, and the company added 30,000,000 won to make it an even 100,000,000 won. They basically dared the government to blacklist them. In the end, President Park was impeached and removed from office in December 2016, and sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2018.

Beautiful reaction! Just wanted to add: The guys pretty much HAD to use symbolism in the video because at the time, the government was blacklisting celebrities, scholars, etc. who showed empathy to the victims' families and who called out the government. BTS was very young at the time....quite brave of them to put this out there knowing their fans and the public would figure it out. That's why they didn't talk about the meaning of the song and video for so long...they had to be very cautious. BTW, it was an accident, but at the BEST it was caused by negligence of the crew and the shipping company, and to add insult to injury, the following prevention of rescue efforts and the cover up. At least some of the guilty parties have been brought to justice. And also, the government now in power is not the same as it was at the time of the tragedy.
@PJOh

I don't think it was an "accident", because the captain was deliberately being wreckless. In a video interview shot only a year before, he boasted that he doesn't need to relying on the safety equipment that senses the terrain of the ocean floor. He claimed his naked eye is superior. There is a lot of suspicion about the strong links between the company that owned and operated the ship and the fact that a lot of the crew members were part of a religious group that was part of a mass suicide involving more than 30 people.

from the few reactions I've seen from you guys, I'm a bit relieved that you guys watched this instead of the Italian ARMY explanation. Don't get me wrong, it's an absolutely overloaded and well-compiled video, but the sheer amount of real life video of media coverage can be triggering. The first time I watched it I cried so much that I almost couldn't breathe. But still, I appreciate the thought that more people are made aware of this disaster. As someone who studied event management, I've studied lots of these disasters and I'm always very emotionally drained afterwards. There are so many things that could have been done to prevent them or to minimize the damages, but these are all in hindsight. Yet it still feels incredibly unfair that the upper society keeps benefitting or escaping responsibility from these incidents. I may not know anyone from these disasters, but as a human, the least I can do is grieve for them and do my best in my work to help even a bit if ever there is an incident like this (but hopefully never again).

Her video leaves you with no doubt that the music video represents the Sewol Ferry tragedy, (BTS have since confirmed it also). It also highlights everything about the disaster that people should know. I'm from England and I remember this being in the news when it was happening, but there was nothing about the corruption and failings that were ultimately the cause of all those people losing their lives. There is a misunderstanding about this song that should be mentioned. The MUSIC VIDEO is about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. But RM wrote the SONG about missing his friends back home in Ilsan. The music video director is the person who realized it was a perfect way to commemorate what happened to the children on the ferry. BTS did write another song about the tragedy shortly after it happened (Spring Day was written a few years later). That song is called "Am I Wrong" and has lyrics that take direct aim at the politicians who were complicit in the event. It would be difficult for a foreigner to pick up on the references, but that song was pretty controversial at the time. This MV touched a lot of hearts, and the song has become one of South Korea's most cherished. It is now forever linked to the tragedy. Coincidentally, the MV came out only a few weeks before the corrupt administration responsible was finally removed from power. But the lyrics were not originally written with Sewol in mind like "Am I Wrong".

April 16, 2023 was the 9th cycle of the Sewol ferry disaster. On a cold winter day in 2016, I lit a candle and took my young daughters to the streets, hoping to uncover the truth and punish those responsible. Many Koreans have long been depressed and traumatized by the disaster. But they were sad or angry and couldn't stay still. In the months leading up to spring, I went out into the streets and cried out for the truth of the disaster. At the time, the president was not interested in saving the people from disaster, but used it politically, discussed and decided on state affairs with a woman he was personally close to, and she was only interested in pursuing private interests. At the time of the Sewol ferry disaster, President Park was supported by conservatives as the daughter of a president who had been in a dictatorial government decades before. A generation that experienced rapid social development at the expense of many working classes after the Korean War during the dictatorship. She misses President Park Chung-hee and believes that her daughter will do well, but she only cares about her appearance and has no interest in her victims. Celebrities who mentioned the Sewol ferry at the time were blacklisted and suffered disadvantages. Critics of the regime were blacklisted and treated unequal. At the time, BTS was hated by the government for comforting and donating to the families of the victims. Blacklisted. After this, angry people held candlelight vigils for months, and in that cold winter, millions of citizens peacefully protested and impeached the president. Park Geun-hye, who was sentenced to prison after a trial and spent several years in prison, was recently released due to health problems. Of course there have been changes. But even now, absurdities, violence, and unfortunate incidents that happen to anyone without any responsibility or guilt. Accidents continue to be unfortunate. If you pass by silently, that misfortune can happen to anyone. I hope this never happens again anywhere else. Unfortunately, the government changed again last year, and forces that did not want to reveal the truth of the Sewol ferry disaster took power. After that, another tragedy occurred in Korea, the Itaewon disaster. Last year, another disaster occurred in South Korea on the Saturday just before Halloween, affecting many young people. Every time the government changes, the people are anxious, heartbroken, and angry because of the irresponsible leadership that does not prepare for such absurd safety. He was also a talented person who could be prevented.

Fans have speculated for years what the MV could be about but it was only in 2020 that we got confirmation from Jin during an interview that it was really about the Ferry: It is about a sad event, but it is also about longing. The song was written in 2017, a difficult time in Korea. Anyone talking about the Ferry or make any link towards the government were put on a blacklist in which BTS were put twice for their song Am I Wrong in 2016 and later Spring Day in 2017. Not Today was also released along with Spring Day as they are on the same album. Not only they were blacklisted but they even donated to the families and met them in person in secret. This could have been hands down, the end of their career. But thankfully, it wasn't. BTS are really special and i love them so much.

The president at that time kept a book with all the blacklisted artists/actors/etc... who had spoken out against her and the gov't agencies involved in the disaster. The people rose up against her with massive protests and she was finally removed from office and imprisoned along with others involved. 💜 The incident was not an accident. The ferry had illegal modifications, but was given a pass by the inspecting agency. It was overloaded with too much cargo, and had more passengers than the regulations allowed when it tipped over. There was an American ship with a crew of over 100 military who had just finished a search and rescue training will all the necessary equipment that was 10 minutes away from the Sewol. They called the Korean Coast Guard and volunteered to help. Their offer was refused. I still get so angry about this.

Oh they made it to the Queen! Thank you so much for your wonderful reaction. Like you, I had never heard of the Sewol Tragedy until I discovered BTS, and once I did some research, I was heartbroken. This happened in 2014, so the students who passed away were in the same age range of JK, Tae, and Jimin (and me as well!), and the other members weren’t much older. So I think they were really impacted, thinking of such a tragedy happening to others their age. While the song itself to me is about the loss of someone important to you, whether through death or simply just growing apart, and missing them terribly, there’s never been any doubt in my mind that the MV was made FOR the Sewol Tragedy. I believe RM even confirmed it much much later, but there are so many references to it. If you guys have the time, I’d highly recommend watching the ItalianARMY explanation video, whether on your own or for the channel. She explains a few of the more subtle indications and shows some footage from that horrible time. This song and MV came out in 2016, shortly before the Sewol wreckage was recovered from the ocean. For them to come out with such a MV during a time where celebrities who even mentioned the tragedy were being blacklisted by the gov’t, is just a testament to their courage and unwillingness to let injustices stay quiet. The fact that the song has stayed within the top 100 on Korean charts tells you what it meant to the Korean public as well. Thank you again for your reaction, you got me needing some tissues as well😅. Borahae!💜

In Korea hierarchy is very important, you are taught that someone older than you is very respected, that you have to do as you are told, so the Captain telling them to stay in their cabins is why these children didn’t try to get out, only some who didn’t listen were the ones who escaped. Also I believe I read somewhere that the laundry scene with the do not forget also had another very horrific meaning, you see Jin looking into the machine, all you see is him, it represents seeing the students who were trapped inside, the Italian Army explanation goes deeper into everything that happened, there were many fishing boats who came to try to rescue these children, but were told by authorities they could not go near, so they had to sit by helplessly watching the ship sink with the children still inside. Rotten Mango a channel here on RU-vid and is also a podcast on Spotify goes into detail as well about what happened, she is Korean American & her husband is Chinese, they have done many podcast on tragedies that have not only happened in S Korea, but also China, Japan and other Asian countries. They are soooo many horrible things that have happened in S Korea that the government has covered up. It’s sad

The beautiful thing about this song is that it has the ability to hold many messages. The music video is without doubt a message about the sewol ferry disaster. But some of the members have also confirmed they wrote the lyrics while thinking about friends who they had lost contact with. During Covid, this song also took on a special meaning for bts and army… of looking forward to better times, when bts could hold concerts and see their fans again. They often ended their online concerts during Covid with Spring Day… a promise to see each other again soon.

Although this video explains the possible theories in the mv. Like what others said, The one made by an italian army is more hard-hitting cos it shows footages of the incident, the news etc and you can understand better what really happened in that tragedy, it’s significance and impact to the korean society and the aftermath of it. It can be really triggering though but i learned a lot watching it. And Spring Day has become even more meaningful to me. BTS and their company donated to and visited the families of the victims during that time but it was only known years later if i’m not mistaken.

i'm somehow glad that u didn't watch the one by the italian army, cuz it's a real heartbreaker. it's so detailed and raw that it haunts me still. even the one you react to in this video is heartwrenching enough. spring day is just THE song for me, so glad that u love it too. this song also makes me appreciate what BTS always passionate about. thanks for the video!

I remember watching a volunteer documentary for sewol accident. It was a terrible sight watching families grieve when it could have been different as you said. Their government handled it in a inhumane way. It is so sad, many lives could have saved, or their lives would not be wasted if the victims were saved, victims would have not suffer and survivors would have not have to bear the heaviness of losing your loved ones. It could have been different 😢

The first time I heard about this I cried just like you did and you guys made me cry again. May God continue to wrap His loving arms around each child that lost their life (adults too). Thank you for this beautiful reaction. I felt their pain when they sing this song and I felt your raw emotions as well! Thank you…Borahae 💜🫰🏻

Thank you for this. Spring Day is obviously a message of hope but understanding where it came from and its deeper meaning is amazing and much appreciated.

“What you STILL DON’T KNOW about BTS SPRING DAY MV” by Italian ARMY is the most insightful and detailed explanation. It’s also one of the hardest videos to watch. Tissues required it’s heartbreaking but so educational. She explains so much beyond the MV. The rescue efforts and sabotage, aftermath, blacklisting people, trials, tributes. Spring Day will always be the Queen. 💜

Spring Day was one of the first songs I heard by BTS and even without reading the lyrics or knowing anything, I could feel the emotion of this song. To this day, it's still one of my favorite songs.

I always cried because of this, especially if you see the videos of the kids crying and wanting to be saved. They're saying i love you and sorry to their parents, which really broke me.
