BTS, in an interview with Variety, open up about the confusion, creativity and inspiration behind their new album, ’Map of the Soul: 7.’ bit.ly/VarietySubscribe / variety / variety / variety
The translator's voice sounds a lot like Jin's and when he started talking I thought that Jin got fluent in English out of nowhere lol I was so surprised
jeff benjamin is a kpop ambassador and specializes in korean music and culture, that is why he is able to dive deeper into questions like those. He is really different from others and is a great person in general.
There’s actually a few now that are good some even better than this one go check out BTS at the Grammy Museum or MTV Fresh Out plus a lot of the ones they’ve done this comeback are good
I don't think their energy was off, this interview was not about yelling and fooling around, it was a serious talk about the album ! I appreciate that considering their US interviews are always about collabs, who's the member that's always late, etc.
I enjoy how this a serious and considerate 1 to 7 interview with the group. It's not during or in the midst of some event, or showcasing, or what ever. It's their own temporary private space for the interviewer to ask very considerate and actually music-topic-driven questions. And I haven't even mentioned there is a Korean-English translator present (that seems to be there at the interview, but I am not sure), so that way the members can thoroughly get through message across in their own language without having to struggle their words through English like they usually do.
It annoys me when they ask them what BTS stands for or who’s their favourite US artist like we KNOW... WHAT THEY SHOULD ASK is more deep questions or questions that aren’t asked in every single interview
In the lyrics of We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal, Jin sings the line, “We were only 7” This shows that only 7 boys are enough and are needed to make a big dream possible. I really feel him and the other members when listening to these songs. Most people know that the song “ON” is technically a sequel to “N.O” that released in 2013, and they are linking this album to the past to show how well they’ve done and the amount of success and support that has been given to them. Another thing about the, “We were only 7.” Line. It’s been *7* years since they’re debut. 7 seems to be a very important number for not only this song, but the entire album as well since it is literally called, “Map Of The Soul: 7”. I honestly can’t wait to see lots more symbolism in other songs from this album as well and future albums! Keep doing you BTS! Don’t stress you yourselves because we purple you 💜💜💜
Jin said "we were only 7, but we ave you all now" so basically they got pretty big but with our support they were able to grow bigger. So they needed us to get this big. or else it wouldn't be possible
Suga is officially clairvoyant “Billboard?” *performs on billboard* “Grammy?” *attends grammy* now we just need a nomination and performance, and maybe next they could have concerts at countries they never visited before, because for me i think that the best award is everyone being able to watch bts live
But no, JM initiates it. JM sees the rubber band and JK pulling it 1:44 and then moves hes hand in 1:46 and at 1:47 J-Hope sees it and smiles. 1:48 JM gets JK's attention and then JK snappes it at JM's hand.
Jungkook has been taking in alot of interviews. On the Jimmy Fallon show when Jimmy was interviewing them jungkook answered the questions in English. He has been studying his English.
"when you don't know where to go, I think the best way is to walk down the road you've always been walking on. " 2:57 - Kim Namjoon, 2020 Idk abt u guys.... But I really needed this Namjoon, thank you. 😢💜💜❤️❤️
I agree. I feel like Jimin looks more serious recently, even in behind the scenes of the new concepts. I haven't seen him smile as much. I hope they are all okay and in good health. On a positive note, I love seeing videos and photos where they've not been whitewashed. They are so beautiful in their own skin tones.
@@gigim1434 After listenning to the whole album I'm thinking "running so fast heads down" is taking a toll in them both emotionally and physically 🤔 (I'm sure it always has been but with the number of interviews they have to do, resting well between is so important to feel at least better with all that stress)
Yoongi’s wish list though out the years: “Billboard hot ten” “Billboard awards” Came true “Grammy” 2018 Came true “Grammy performance”2019 Came true “Grammy nominations and solo performance” 2020 THATS GONNA COME TRUE YOONGI JUST WAIT
can we just appreciate how well worded namjoon's thoughts are even with the language barrier, this man is truly a world class president...best leader alive
One of the best interviewers, caring, great questions, let them answer in korean and had an actual translator! The rubber and jk had is a psychological technique used to keep ones hands busy if you are a hair puller, or picker, habits like that. Seemed to work well. It means JK’s is getting good attention for stressful situations! That makes me very happy
Yes the questions are awesome!! I'm so happy! Also allowed to talk in Korean to let them express themselves at their best 😃 I didn't know about the rubber band - perfect Edit : English
favorite track members: RM: O'clock Suga: UGH! Jin: Moon Jhope: friend Jimin: ON JK: My Time V: UGH! "yeah i already suspect that taehyung likes UGH! as we know taehyung likes all passwords especially to his brother Suga" V: Yes, Suga is my bias
I love how they had a translator. I think language barrier is a big reason they stay quiet a lot. Speaking in Korean is much easier for them to say what they wanna say (aside from RM of course).
Abbie D. Yeah the boys are actually very eloquent when they're speaking their native language, hiring a translator is surely helping Namjoon to deliver their message better
I totally agree. I can speak Korean, so I know that they are very eloquent and well-spoken in Korean, but when they speak English, they appear to be kind of silly with no deep thought and it makes me sad.
Love it too, but I think it would be better if the translator waited until they finished talking. For me it was quite jarring to not hear their real voices
AV 773 I think a lot of people found it so. Variety must have read all the complaints though because they just put a subtitles version, which is great. 😛
The fact that even after achieving all of this, they stay humble. Even to themselves. As RM stated that the album is about their self-reflection as Artists and How they think that it's still a Dream and they wonder where they are? The songs on the album all fit well with the concept as they all tell their stories about being Artists. As jungkook's *My time* tells us about how he grew up too fast and now dosen't have time for himself. Taehyung's *Inner child* tells us about his growth as a person and all the changes he went through, From being a kid who was always expected to be Bubbly and smiling, he has now became a calm Adult. Jimin's *Filter* where he signifies how he is willing to put on a filter himself to pleases the audience and get their appreciation and Jin's *Moon* as a love song for Army's in which he says he is a like a moon to Army's who are the earth and he will provide light to the earth, as he helps us with his light and inspirational messages. *ON* signifies their hardships as they say bring the "pain on" and *Louder than Bombs* about being louder than the negativity as "they keep singing louder than bombs". *Black swan* being an artist's fear of losing his passion. And the very special song which a holds a special place in every Army's heart *The Eternal* which is about OUR journey ...About BTS and Army and how they were just seven against the world but they are not alone anymore because Army's are here for them. There are no more Seven with Us This album is seriously the best Work I have seen from them. They have truly embarked themselves as legendary artists. Edit: Thank you so much for the likes, I did not expect at all 💜💜
And by their ' bulletproof eternal ' they tell us about how were alone only seven and now they have received armys love and now they are no more alone no more seven . Really the true personality of each member, and as a team, comes out of this album . And Friends was awesome tooooo . Jimin wrote it for him and taehyung and even helped in the production . It really speaks his heart out. And the fact that they are still humble ....... Resemble the quality of Tru artists and Tru lovers of music.#armyforever💜💜💜
Suhani Sharma I thought bulletproof: the eternal was gonna be another bad boy song, but it’s really emotional and beautiful and I never look at songs into this much detail unless it’s bts, cuz they’re the best
RM : Talking. Jimin : staring at RM J-Hope : looking around and at the interviewer V: looking down a lot and nodding. Suga : focusing, talking, looking around, yawning Jin : staring at a spot, being handsome. Meanwhile : Jungkook : *..”..I’m gonna bring a rubber band to play with :O..”..* The interviewer : Very nice . I appreciate this guy.
That's because you really don't know who he is and how he treats them. Contemptuous. We deserve better. Really great journalists. We begin to have some great ones. This kind like this one begin to behave a little bit more. But I have not forgotten the past
Its interesting, cause my therapist told me to do that and snap it whenever I was feeling anxious since I have severe anxiety. I think hes just very hyper active so since he's fidgety he snaps it instead would be my best guess
Namjoon's word were just powerful and I just feel motivated everytime he speaks up. His words are all right and true bc of their journey to be this far.
Sometimes I feel bad when they ask “what’s the next step/goal?” especially during cb interviews. It’s like being in the midst of chaos of just releasing an album, and before you can even grasp reactions or the effect of your hard work, you get asked “well what’s happening next?” Releasing the album itself was the next step. Also why ask the question if their answer last year was the same? In conclusion, the question “what’s the next step?” is kind of belittling the hard work that comes with their cb. Let them digest the situation, reactions, and praise that comes with releasing an album before asking what’s next.
its a stress reliever like if your anxious, stressed out in situations you can use it instead of picking your skin, hair pulling or bite yourself in stressful situations he was probably feeling anxious and stressed out
RM: *answering most of the questions* jin: *thinking if he turned off the stove* SUGA: *sips starbucks* jhope: *being hopefull* jimin: *looking pissed* taehyung:*straight face* jk : *trying to piss jimin with his rubberband*
@@mmm-qg9qo I think OP referenced to BTS Bring The Soul movie where Jin was wondering if he already turned the stove or not. It's the new inside joke. Cooking doesn't make you a mom and he loves cooking.
They're all really tired, that's why we need to show how much we value all their hard work, the Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima and the "ON" MV this feb 28 deserves more from us 🙏
*This feels like a real moment of reflection for you guys too. So many tracks are nods to past songs…* *RM:* Many things were not intended as far as our career. We didn’t know we would ever reach this kind of position. Of course, we dreamed, we wanted to get big, we wanted to go as high as we could, but we never expected this kind of energy, this kind of reaction all over the world. One day, we woke up and we were like, “Where are we?” When you don’t know where to go, I think the best way is to walk down the road you have been walking on. So, the reboot [songs] is the best way to reflect ourselves and figure out ourselves again: Where are we? What are we doing? Who were we in the past? And [who are we] right now? That’s how it happened My favourite part! 👆
Interviewer: “What’s the next step for BTS?” Yoongi: _Billboard stage_ BTS: **performs at Billboards** Interviewer: “What is your next goal?” Yoongi: _Grammy nomination and performance_ WHAT SUGA WANTS, SUGA GETS. LETS GET HIM HIS WISH ARMYS💜GRAMMYS WATCH OUT WE”RE COMING FOR YOU, WE’LL SHOW YOU WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SNUB BTS.😜LETS GET THIS BREAD 🥖
Naamjoon looks really tired and still he is giving answerss to same questions in all interviews. he is taking and being the best leader. I know he is leader and OTHERS also lead in some sort of THINGS but naamjoon is the one who keeps EVERYONE toghter. LOVE TO HIM FRM INDIA
I'm so proud of RM! he's great with English and he's great in explaining and give reasoning behind everything BTS has done or will in the past/present and the future. I've watched like million interviews with them but him here is something that hits home. He's not even my closest bias but I feel like he deserves all the attention rn. I don't want to come out rude but BTS should be very much thankful for his presence and leading skills cause he's one hella of a spokesmen, and greatest leader who works so hard on keeping and guiding his crew through better paths, riches and glories. I bow down king.
Yes 🙇♀️ And they look especially tired here comeback season is stressful with all those interviews and places to go I really hope they will rest well 💜
@@jocelyn9744 tbh I even think this is even the more lesser stressful and more calmer stage of their comeback. Imagine when the tour stars, city to city, country to country, continent to continent flying all year long that must be the realest most tiring stage of their comeback but with army by their side they'll eat that up. We give them strength, hope and reason guys and thats why BTS are enormous and important. I love those guys.
Rm is really the best leader . He speaks their heart out. He deserves all attention and respect . He has mine tho. And for us we r stressed out in deciding which song to listen at a time 😂(cz they dropped a bomb ) but for them it's really very hard the release.... The promotion ..... The interviews.... The choreography .... The performances ....... Interactions.....and all they are really so busy . I hope they take care and achieve what they are meant for #armyforever💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
@@suhanisharma8944 facts yes. But army are here to keep up the love for the boys I cant even imagine how much their hearts must be filled with emotion when they are in a enormous huge centers with love coming from every single angle, that must be the most beautiful and beyond words to describe feeling and satisfaction ever. People who do not speak your language coming and showcasing all that you've never ever imagined. We can't possibly ever know that feeling but only they'll. I'm jealous. No surprise when we see them tearing up, there must be like a ball of raw and most definitely at least not enough words to describe, feelings they must feel. Their hearts are literally full at those moments. That's their high.
There's a lot of an immature army i mean who doesn't understand what u mean , but am happy To see armys who give a big support to him like u ( sorry for my baaadddd english )
yoongi be sipping his coffee like "ahhhhh so refreshing" junkook be playing with a rubber band like "what are these people saying, goodness this is boring"
when kook was playing with the rubber band... chim- “pass it over” “we’re in an interview stop” “just give it to me” kook- *furrows eyebrows* “what” “leave me alone bish”
This was one of the best interviews I ever saw. The questions were ACTUALLY about them, their inspiration and their journey, not just about possible collaborations and other western™ questions. Really grateful for the interviewer and the effort behind all of this.
When Yoongi said grammy nomination they all were deadly serious like before they used to laugh it out but now they know that they totally deserve it Omfg I've never got this many likes..thank you ARMYs
I liked how the interviewer didn't cut off the members when they speak, especially namjoon. I also appreciated the dubbed translation. I guess the only slight I could think of is it could be better if the subtitles are provided as well. Kudos to the interviewer for doing a great job!
Only 13 seconds in and already we've got RM showing love to vocal line 👍 Hobi appreciating Friend and Jimin thanking him 🥰 Jin hyping his own song and RM casting a look 😏 JK doing the same and laughing, RM laughing and 'punched' by JK 😁 V being the rap line fanboy he is 💜
I feel like bts thinks that armys want them to participate at every award show or other stuff but in reality armys are not asking much amd it's just the company forcing bts to do all these things
@@estelaangeles2346 sorry but I don't buy the BigHit is a bad company narrative. This is just normal stuff during promotion for every artist, not only BTS. At the end it's still a business. If it was that bad that would not have signed for another 7 years with BH.
BIGHIT ISNT A BAD COMPANY......IM TIRED OF NEW ARMYS COMING INTO THIS FANDOM AND COMING UP WITH THE DUMBEST SCENARIOS. AND BTS ALWAYS TALKS ABOUT THE GOALS THEY WANT TO REACH THATS WHY YOONGI ALWAYS SAYS HE WANTS. #1 ON HOT 100, THEY KNOW THEY NEED TO PROMOTE and HAVE A LOT OF INTERVIEWS.
Estela Angeles If they want more exposure that's what they have to do. BTS are GROWN men they know the stresses......don't make assumptions...when bts always talk about how they want to be appreciated for their music.🤦♀️
Estela Angeles Big Hit Entertainment is the best company in the KPOP industry. He and the boys never gave up despite even having to promote their concert for free years ago. Big Hit doesn’t take on more groups than what they can manage either.
