This episode is before their debut. Their ages when they each joined Big Bit as trainees: RM 16, Jin 18, Suga 17, J-Hope 16, Jimin 16, V 15, Jungkook 13. The length of their trainee periods varied, but they all lived together in the dorm. That’s why Jin’s family wasn’t there to take care of him. His family didn’t live too far from Seoul but most of the guys had to move quite far away from their families when they joined Big Hit. When they debuted in June 2013, there ages were RM 18, Jin 20, Suga 20, J-Hope 19, Jimin 17, V 17, Jungkook 15. Tiny little babies with the entire world ahead of them. People new to BTS don’t always realize that this episode shows how different the group and their agency were from the typical “K-pop machine/factory”

It’s important to remember that at the time this was made, South Korean still had a different aging system than the west , so they may say in the video they are 21, but by western standards, they may be 19 or 20 depending on the time of year in relation to their birthday and the New Year. * Just recently (in the last year) their government has decided to adopt the aging system of the West . ARMY enjoys watching peoples BTS’ journey.

Fun fact abt Suga that we didn’t know until a certain Suwitcha episode: he said that for the Hit It audition they were given different beats to choose from but didn’t like them so he remixed & produced them how he wanted (which is bold for someone auditioning). Apparently Bighit saw his talent for producing and recruited him even before he got second place.

Suga straight out jokes that Bang PD hoodwinked him into dancing after he'd signed the contract, lolol. I don't think it was the initial plan, though. Originally they wanted/planned a pure hiphop group, which is why the first three members were all rappers. At one point there were other rappers also part of the original plan for BTS. But ultimately the plan changed. Some of those original rappers left, some stayed on as producers. RM and Suga chose to continue with the new plan for BTS, which included dancing.

@@peachysaiyan Yeah lol there's even footage of Suga playfully yelling at Bang PD for telling him that he wouldn't have to dance if he joined BigHit but now BTS had some of the hardests choreos. Bang PD teased him back saying that he'll make the dances harder now and Suga started acting cute to get him to change his mind. It was all just messing around ahahaha. It was a little segment they did where the boys all climbed up on a higher platform one by one and got to yell their frustrations out to the people standing below (i.e. Bang PD, staff, the other memebers).

Oh no the forming of BTS wasn't televised in the way America's Got Talent and those sort of shows are. BigHit Music didn't have the finances to do that sort of promo back then. The closest thing to "televised" they had was the vlogs they'd post during their trainee days talking about their experiences and logging their day and talking to the people who would one day be ARMY.

12:58 BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan and they're called both names in South Korea 14:21 No, BigHit couldn't afford that. BTS's debut was not glamorous at all. The only reason we know about their pre-debut era is because they documented everything on their social media. There are even tweets from Suga getting excited about hitting 2k followers (so cute). 16:07 They were already BTS but haven't debuted yet. Yes, that restaurant is now basically dedicated to BTS, so it would be difficult to go back and eat there like regular people. However, they always remember and talk about those days. 19:10 BTS was supposed to be a full hip-hop group and at the very beginning and all the trainees were rappers, but the project changed over time and became an idol group. 20:23 The Korean age system is different, so they are actually 1 or 2 years younger than what they said (sometimes it could be confusing). 31:05 SM, JYP and YG 32:00 Exactly, that freedom combined with Bangtan's work ethics created something extraordinary 37:08 We know they are all very close, but there is definitely a special bond between RM and Suga since they have known each other since 2010 and have gone through similar struggles coming from the underground rap scene. 38:32 Yes, all of these videos from chapter 1 were before the debut, so V was hidden. 39:58 Their debut song was 'No More Dream', 'We are Bulletproof pt.2' was the 2nd single, both songs are part of their fist EP. FAKE LOVE was released in 2018, 5yrs after their debut. We Armys love to watch everything related to BTS, so we'll enjoy MVs, documentaries, live performances, interviews, etc. Omg sorry for the long text, I tried to answer some of your questions, love your reaction as always 💜💜

32:02 You hear Bang PD say he gave the BTS members freedom whilst at the same time see the boys working long hours (Jimin being concerned for RM & Suga in particular). As you go on in your BTS journey you’ll watch behind the scenes of their filming. It’s interesting to note that the BTS members huddle behind a camera to monitor their performance. There are no managers or directors heard or seen urging them to do another take. Instead it’s the perfectionist streak that all 7 members have. A very good example of this is a dance practice video 3J (j-hope, Jimin and Jung Kook) made for Megan Thee Stallion’s verse on the Butter remix she jumped in on. The final product was about 31 seconds but the 3 guys filmed the routine for 2 days until they were satisfied with it.

Early on, Jin did struggle with a lack of confidence. You will watch his personality mature a lot through this series. Even now, though, he's very overtly confident, but i wouldn't assume thats always how he actually feels inside.
@ZariDV
@ZariDV Месяц назад
Yes the members lived in different areas around South Korea and these guys all had to move away from their families to live in the housing provided by the company (as trainees throughout the kpop industry are expected to do). So yeah they didn't get to see their families for a while which of course adds to the stress of all of this since the trainees are kids separated from their family for the first time. The ages mentioned in this are often in Korean age. In international ages Jin was really 20 years old when he got casted, not 22. In the old Korean age system, they used to count a newborn as 1 year old at birth and then everyone turns 1 year older on New Years day each year (not on your birthday). Jin was born in December. So when he wass born he was considered 1 year old in Korean age and then the next month he was considered to be 2 years old on New Years day. Of couse, by international age we would have thought of him as a 2 month old baby.

This is a great series! Aneesa (the creator of The Rise of Bangtan) shared that she has been working on this series (her labor of love) for over 3 years! She is taking viewer on a journey step-by-step from BTS' perspective not looking back on their days but living through them (with them). She edits their content to allow BTS to speak their thoughts, through their experiences at the time because BTS has been documenting themselves since BEFORE their debut, so there is A LOT of material to edit down to tell their story! She also gives an overview of the KPop history for those who are not familiar with the industry. She uses clips from different video clips of other idols/ journalists interviews to try to give a broader perspective of the industry. Her skill as a professional video editor really shines through. Amazing work! I think many ARMY really like this series (besides it being extremely well made), she doesn't try to interpret what "she thinks" BTS is trying to say, she just shows the viewers exactly what they said and shared about what their thoughts were at the time. She is an "OG" KPop fan and BTS fan since pre-debut! She also shared that BTS has been the light in her darkness for many years now. *(Cr: "FY" on yt)* I think it's important to notice the differences between BTS' worries and the other trainees worries. BTS' were worried about their own personal skills (not dancing well enough, song worries, etc), about not getting attention when they debut due to their small company, not having money, etc. While the other trainees seem to be living in fear of being cut from the company at any moment if they make one mistake, worrying about weight quotas, etc. BTS stayed until late hours because they WANTED to, while the other trainees HAD to. Obviously BTS had things they had to do too, they could've not made it to debut as Jimin almost did due to short training, but instead of using that as a fear to hold over them Bighit seemed to use it to encourage them to work harder and improve themselves. BTS were allowed to make mistakes without worrying they'd be thrown out of the company. I'm very glad that they all signed with Bighit, and that Bighit has caused a shift in the Kpop industry, lots of newer companies are giving their groups more freedom and treating them better due to BTS' success. These companies see that idols don't need to be punished and forced to do things in order to succeed, BTS are proof that freedom and happiness should be the most important thing. *(Cr: "Shannon" on yt)* Now plz understand this 1st & 2nd episode shows two sides, one is typical k-pop system and how the labels/industry work, whereas subtle hints of BTS and bighit being contradictory different is shown, BTS is different from other K-pop groups and BigHit is different from other idol music companies. These first few episodes can be misleading because it makes you think BTS management follows these guidelines the other idol members from other companies are talking about, but BTS and BigHit don't do those things. Notice how when it is said idols don't have a lot of creative freedom, you see Namjoon and Yoongi writing lyrics, or when it says idols have phone bans or something, you see the BTS members on their phones, or how when idols say they aren't allowed to go outside the dorm, you see Yoongi walking around freely. It can be a confusing thing for new ARMY to make note of, but PLEASE notice these differences. It is vital to how BigHit runs differently, and therefore why BTS is so different from other idol groups from the very start. *(Cr: "Kayla Kulik" on yt)*

I'm so excited you are doing this series..it's so important to understanding their journey. Please once you get going don't miss the behind the scenes and deleted scenes...they are so good and important (deleted scenes start with Ch 1 and bonus content with ch 3) . MC for youth....MC = Master of Ceremonies....they want the fans to raise their voices with BTS for positive change for youth. I have seen their concerts sell out in about 90 minutes (Wembley that holds 90,000 people). Yes...they are trainees for a long time. Yes...trainees put in long hours, but so do students in the general population in Korea. They average 16 hour days in school believe it or not (between regular classes and night classes). It's a brutal society for putting in the work and it shows. No it was not televised when forming BTS. They were a tiny, unknown agency with no media power ...which is what makes their rise all that much more impressive. RM and Suga signed when the vision for BTS was very different...it was originally going to be an all rapper hip hop group, but the concept was changed so yes, they got duped a little on that aspect ...lol, but not on purpose. The ages you hear them say in here are 2 years older than their actual ages (Korean counted ages differently). JK was 13 when he left home for good. They were mostly all far from their families. The big 3 were SM, JYP and YG agencies. BTS is just a short form for BangTan Sonyeondan. Jin "big ups" his looks, but he is honestly the shyest member. RM and Suga were the first 2 members, so they have lived together the longest and between them wrote almost all of their early songs. Thanks for letting it run til the end. So many reactors stop the video once the previews for next chapter starts and there is always more content after the previews. Wow...I wrote a freaking novel...sorry...lol. Trying to answer some of your questions.

These days, your only real chance of getting a ticket to a BTS concert (without paying ridiculous reseller prices) is to pay for an annual ARMY fan club membership. Abd even that is no guarantee. Fan club members are chosen by lottery for special ticket presales. Their last couple concerts sold out in presales. They never even made it to general sales. The concert ticket purchasing process is honestly extremely stressful. You have to camp on Ticketmaster to try to get in the queue as soon as sales open. Once you're in the queue, you are *lucky* if you land anywhere other than 2,000+ ahead of you. Once you actually get in you are pushing buttons at a desperate speed trying to nab something while they are disappearing straight out from under you.

All idols (including BTS, Blackpink and Stray Kids) must go through the idol trainee system. It's mandatory in this field. It's expected for the company to properly train idols for their debut and the career that follows. That period is to get them media ready, hone their talents or teach new talents, and give the group time to build chemistry with each other. Kpop isn't a true genre. It's more like an industry where the idols perform songs from other existing genres after getting training and having their debut. I would say that the training portion is what really makes kpop what it is since every other aspect is optional. A kpop idol doesn't need to be Korean and doesn't need to speak Korean fluently. Their music can be of any genre. The music itself doesn't need to have a single Korean word in the lyrics. For example, Lisa from Blackpink is Thai and she could make an song entirely in English if she wants and it would still be seen as a kpop song, because she debuted within the kpop industry after going through the idol trainee system.

Aneesa, the creator of this series, said that she also wanted to show how Bighit was different than most companies through the editing. So will see the other trainees from other companies talk abt how they had all the rules, weight rules,snacking, going out, etc & then you will see the members do those things. While bighit was strict they weren’t as bad as other companies (note they weren’t perfect and everyone had a ton of pressure on them bc if they don’t do well the companies goes bankrupt, which they almost did)

If you continue to watch Raise of Bangtan , you will understand why real ARMy does not support other groups. There has been a lot of hatred, envy and envy towards BTS by fans of other groups, often the campaigns of hatred towards BTS by the labels of those groups and encouraged by the Korean media, so don't believe everything you see on other platforms, many times they are just editions taken out of context to impose a version of the facts to reinforce the negative impact on Bangtan's image. Form your own opinion by listening to what Bangtan members say, they have a fluent dialogue with ARMy.

Saying "Real Army does not support other groups" is like saying you're not a real Army if you stan another group and that's a very toxic mindset. It is not the idols from other groups fault why BTS got a lot of hatred, it's the "TOXIC" fans from other fandom who are jealous and insecure, not the idols themselves and they do not have to suffer because of their toxic fans' behavior. I've been an ARMY since 2013 and have been stanning other groups as wells at this point, same goes with a LOT of ARMY arould the world, you can't tell us we're not real just because we're multistans, that's now how you measure being a real one. You are making people believe that it's wrong to support other groups and that's just so wrong. So PLEASE don't speak for us. Thank you.

Hi, Good reaction, ty. So glad u started this series. Aneesa the creator of this docu series is an editor. It took her 4 yrs of research to create 20 plus chapters. Many army don't want this series to end. Aneesa has to do more research to tell the rest of BTS story. She sadly does not plan to do that no more. Aneesa is a full time editor in Disney now. She was a pro editor when she created this passion project of hers. I am glad u like her work. It took her 4 yrs to create 23 chapters. Sadly, she only published 21 of those. I hope she shares the others in the future if she can. All groups and solo K artists do training for a few yrs or months with their agency. I think there's a guy who trained for 7 yrs and another for 6 yrs who debuted. Like that's really tough. But u get so much more experience. BTS always said they debuted too early. Sigh. Stray Kids had a competition show were Bangchan got to choose each member. The CEO believed in him. And he trained for like 6-7 yrs. It was a new idea. And no other agency has done the same since i think. At least i have not heards so. Plus they competed in Kingdom another competition show. So their story is very different, yeah. Jin is actually 31yo and will be 32 in Dec. The ages they say here are Korean. So u have to minus 2 yrs from all the ages they give u or u just do the math. RM is 94 baby Jimin and Tae are the 1995s. None of their families were around. They all came from various provinces to live and train in the capital. It took them 2 yrs to see their families for the 1st time. UwU Their families could not travel so far to visit. Jk was 13/14yo when he joined BTS. He debuted at 15yo. The big 3 are YG, SM, & JYP. They still the big 3. They just no longer the richest agency its HYBE now. But they still have yrs of success and political maneuvering and still causes our agencies idols problems, sigh. In 2013 it was the norm to not write ur own music. Big Hit was different. Bang PD had a vision and he taught the guys well. TXT also is learning to write their own music. It's a group effort. It's really fascinating. Seventeen writers their own stuff, and a few other groups. No More Dream is their debut song actually. =0] We are Bulletproof Pt.2 is the pre-release maybe back then. Pls watch Deleted Scenes u missed that video. Each chap. has them. =0] i feel SK they are more organised there. Because of the industry many kids take the risk. Here many apply but it's really hard when no one is supporting u. The restaurant lady's place is famous to army. Army visit her place and it's filled with BTS merch and pics. She makes good food. She still proud of the guys. She always believed in them and she was right. Joon was in underground like Suga meaning they were in the rap underground. They were rapping and battling. Hard core stuff. Yeah, the other companies are too focused on perfection. It's messed up. A member of Twice got into an accident and had to do rehab. She was placed on hormone pills and this made her gain a lot of weight. She got so bullied via social media it was terrible. Ppl are not kind. It's so sad and frustrating. Pang PD is such a progressive thinker. I adore him. RM learned Eng by watching the TV show Friends. RM adores Nas a USA rapper. He listens to a lot of Western rap. Jimin was the last member to join. He was with them 6-8 months. He was almost cut 8 times. Poor guy. RM, Suga, Jin and JK i think trained for 3 yrs. V trained for 2. Excited to hear your thoughts on ch.2. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟 Zizi K. said on 6/23/21 Kpop is not a genre actually, it's an industry because groups can choose whatever genre they want. I know you can listen to like one or two songs from a singer or group and get the gist of their sound but with BTS, their discography is so varied that you need to listen to a variety of the music to get who they are. Rayna said on 1/29/22 The first thing to understand is, that "K-Pop" is not really just a genre, it's more a whole industry.. As SUGA (one of the BTS members) once said: "I’m a little careful to talk about K-pop as a genre, because I don’t want to be defining Kpop as a genre. I’m a little bit wary of that, but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be ‘integrated content.' K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.” BTS is more than just K-Pop. @aellerica6380 said on 7/19/23 A few comments. First off, when Jin said his parents weren’t around to take care of him he only meant that he was living with the members and not his parents. He was the baby in his family and then suddenly became the oldest of 7 Rise of Bangtan original channel had over 100k subscribers when it was pulled. The captions say this is an army edit, and yes Aneesa is army but the concept and execution and editing is all the work of one person, Aneesa. It was a project she actually started back in 2017 and aired the first episode on RU-vid in January 2021. Each episode just gets better and better. There are also deleted scenes for episode 1 and 2 and then also bonus content starting episode 3 I’m super happy you were referred to this series because it is truly professional quality and Aneesa is a heck of a good story teller. I’m looking forward to the next part of your BTS journey 💜😃🇨🇦 @aellerica6380 said on 7/19/23 I found it. “But also, as Bangtan’s career continues to thrive, the more incomplete the series feels to me. I never expected it to reach so many people and, had I known it would grown so much, I might have added more explanation and clarity within the narrative. For these reasons I’ve decided that TRoB will no longer be available on this channel'. @tammarabg8174 said on 7/19/23 I am excited that you are doing this series. Aneesa put a lot of work into this project. She was a kpop fan before BTS debuted. She felt it was important to put in the history and talk about the big music companies training practices. She noticed BTS because they were different. Just a heads up on the ages. The members are giving you their Korean age. You need to subtract one or two years Most of the members were born September-December, so subtract two years. J-Hope and Suga were born in February and March respectively, so usually you can just subtract one year. Korean age is counted by years you have lived in, not by the sets of 365 days you have lived. V was born December 30 1995. That was the first year that he lived in, so he was one. Two days later, January 1st, 1996, that is the second year he lived in, so he was now two. When the boys debuted, Jin was 20 and JK was 15.
@timothywest1183
@timothywest1183 Месяц назад
Korea now recognizes ages like we do. But back then, you were 1 when you were born, then considered 2 on January 1st of the next year. So if JK was born September 1st 1997, on January 1st of 1998 he was officially 2 years old by Korean standards. So while he says he was 15, he was really 13 years old. Same with the rest. Jin when this was filmed it was 2012 or early 2013, he was born in 1994 so by our standards, he was 18 or 19 years old. They were young.

No no , you are so wrong about Stray Kids. JYP put those boys through hell. Bangchan trained for six years before debut. The group went through endlees competition for slots to be in the group and Felix and Lee Know were eliminated by JYP himself 😢😢😢😢i😢😢😢Stray Kids struggle to debut was brutal, It's documented and it still makes me 😢 BTS went through idol training also. Big Hit was more reasonable. Bang PD did not mandate a forced amount of hours but his expectations were so high, they did 16 hour days. Jimin, JK, and V still had to go to school do homework and then practice. RM and Suga would write lyrics after dance practice( after midnight) and come home for bed at 6am. They only knew how to GRIND.💜

I stated RM and Sugar ( my forever bias)had to Dance until midnight and then write music until dawn going to bed at 6am. She asked if BTS went through a trainee system and I said they did. I said BTS only knows "how to grind" Did you want to write a whole documentary. I tried to be brief. No one reads long answers. She thought Stray Kids were put together by Bangchan without any training. She had no idea about Stray Kids history. I am ARMY 💜 since 2016. BTS suffered great emotional abuse by haters, toxic fandoms from other groups, media etc. but not from Big Hit. Acknowledging that the Kpop system is very hard for ALL trainees is the truth, but very individual to each group and each agency. Please don't look for sights or insults where none was intended. Low-key think BSH was so laissez-faire on BH trainees in order to weed out anybody who couldn't or wouldn't self-discipline to keep up with his high expectations on their own. Tbf, this method does better ensure that the final picks would be the type to be proactive with work and self improvement, which meant the money that BH spent on them would also be more probable to have some type of return. This is just what I'm getting from what prior trainees have said abt what things were like and why they didn't make it. Also from seeing how Hybe runs their trainee system with the same leaning towards trainees being proactive and self-disciplined with their own practice scheduling. Also, this is the vibe I got from BSH's past dealings with other artists too. He tends to go above and beyond for ppl who put in the extra effort for their work but doesn't have a lot of patience for ppl who are lax or don't take the job seriously. He was even a judge on a Korean talent show, where knetz had called him the Korean Simon Cowell for how harsh he could get when judging contestants. When I first got into BTS in 2016, there was an old clip (it's no longer on yt) where he really laid into a contestant for goofing around during the time he should've been practicing, and BSH was telling the guy that others would kill to have this opportunity but all he was doing was wasting that opportunity and doing nothing for himself. Tbf, he worded it more politely, but the atmosphere was really intense.

Yes Jin was self conscious before. He actually was (in some areas still is) insecure. I think a lot of it is bc he literally joined without much knowledge of music & dancing & he was the oldest that kind of jumped to the role of taking care of them (the members, especially Jin, quite literally drove Jungkook to school & cooked for the members) & all the other members are so talented (he is too). He himself has said this, but Fire era (song) during his part he becomes more confident and slowly has become who he is now (although if you still pay close attention he still is a little self conscious and sometimes insecure & shy…his ears turn red when he is shy & center of attention lol)

Love that you’re doing this series! It was all edited and created by one person, Aneesa (who’s a professional editor who has mad skills but did this out of love for free). She had a team of translators and people who’d review the episodes to give feedback, but did the huge bulk of work herself. She stopped after chapter 21 (which covers BTS up to 2018) for personal reasons, but I’m so grateful she put all this work in - it’s an amazing overview of their personal and professional growth and adds amazing context for everything. Also, BTS pre-debut stuff wasn’t televised. Auditions and training were done in private, and then late 2012/early 2013 when the group was definite and a debut time was set, they started filming these logs and covers/songs and posting them on youtube and soundcloud for free, to introduce themselves, and create hype and some first early fan connections.

Welcome to ARMY ... Adorable Representative Master of Ceremony of Youth - I would sum up the meaning: Young people who represent their generation and who are represented by BTS. As for the Rise of Bangtan series - it is a masterpiece and I'll be forever grateful for all the work the creator put into this. But as a non-korean it is sometimes a little hard to understand the context. The first episode starts with how k-pop agencies work, how idols are made and how k-pop is an industry - but all this is shown to us to appreciate the differences in BigHit's approach... you see Bang PD telling how important is for him to create content and music for real music listeners, with substance and meaning. He was searching for members with passion and musical talent and curated them to become masters of their crafts -who have authentic values, honest messages and relatable personalities. Keep in mind while watching the upcoming episodes how different the members are trained then in other agencies. Enjoy the ride....Borahae

YG Entertainment, who’s ceo is YG a ex member of Seoul Taiji and the boys(the first kpop group, also friends with JYP)some groups under him are Blackpink, ikon, bigbang, treasure. The final one is SM Entertainment, who’s CEO is Jang Cheol-hyuk, some groups under him are super junior, shinee, girls generation, EXO, Aespa, nct, riize, a lot more. SM use to be the most dominant before BTS got big, and EXO , who debuted a year before bts, was probably the biggest group before bts’s success. Now Hybe, formerly big hit, hybe is a company which many companies under them,including big hit, who have BTS and TXT. They also own Pledis Entertainment who have Seventeen, fromis_9, TWS. Something to note. South Korea's age system works differently, so usually when the guys introduce themselves as a particular age here, they're likely one year younger. Also, when Jin said he's family is not around, it just means that, for example, all of the BTS members came from other states in Korea, and need to move to California, for example, to train for BTS, so there families weren't around to look after them, they lived with and took care of each other.

36:12 with Jin and him constantly calling himself handsome, it’s not something I think he takes all that seriously. His WWH has become a running joke. He has said that he struggled with confidence and his persona in the group until their song Fire in 2016. (He was supposed to be the cool handsome guy, like a cold CEO lead in a KDrama) Of course, in reality he’s the mood maker of BTS, always keen to lighten & brighten everyone’s day. I personally think he knew he was handsome but thought it was less important than the amazing skills his younger BTS brothers had. So he pushed himself to improve his singing and dancing. I find that so inspiring actually as he is now on a more equal level with them as he was able to foster his own talents so well.

BTS is an acronym for BangTan Sonyeondan. They have not changed their name. It's just convenient to promote themselves as BTS to a larger audience and it's easier for newer People to pronounce their group's name like that , so people get introduced to them as BTS. It's mostly only for the conveniene of the non korean speakers because they still introduce themselves as Bangtan Sonyeondan when they greet ARMY in korean. Morever, fans who have been in the fandom for sometime hardly call them BTS. It's mostly Bangtan or the Tannies.
