Seo Taiji is considered the godfather of modern-day Korean pop music.
@robwebnoid5763
@robwebnoid5763 8 месяцев назад
Yes, Seo Taiji is considered the father of KPop as people have already said. He is a multi-genre multi-instrumentalist. In SK, he helped magnify & popularize hiphop from the US as well as continue metal & rock music & other genres that also came from the west. Even Korean Trot music is from the US. KPop is not inherently Korean, it is western-based, as it always has. People tend to forget that Korea has been listening to & adopting western music continually since at least the 19th century, which is now over 150 years ago. Hiphop was sort of new in SK back then in the early 1990's. Hiphop had only been around for 2 decades in the US. Taiji also popularized that type of street hiphop choreography that went along with his music. And Seo Taiji & Boys was not pure hiphop, it was hiphop-rock, many tend to not be aware of that too. And they were not solely singing + dancing, they also played instruments together, like a typical rock/jazz band. That is one thing that has been lacking a lot in the 25-year history of KPop, in that instrument bands have been rare. But they have been creeping in slowly for the past 20 years. Bands like Day6, TheRose, FTIsland, etc are also considered KPop in some way depending on their labels & affiliations. The last thing for all KPop fans that should be aware of KPop, is this... the BIG irony of KPop is that its sound became more or less poppy, R&B & hiphop, rather than more rock & metal music, because Taiji is first & foremost a rock/metal musician. But most of us know the reason why & it lasted for only 4 years, but the impact has continued to this day. One day, KPop may transition to pure instrument bands, no more dancing, or they may blend dancing in, just as KPop's forefathers did 40-50 years ago, such as the Jackson 5 & Prince, who both used the formfactor of singing+instruments+choreo. Lastly, Lee Soo-man, of SM Entertainment, is also debatedly considered the father of KPop, but I kinda disagree & agree with that statement. If anything, Soo-man at least established the business model side of it, while Seo Taiji put in the performance aspect of it. Hopefully CCW will watch more Seo Taiji, both from his early Boys band as well as his Nu-metal & Alternative Rock phases from the Y2k era, not to mention his hair metal days in the '80's. Seo Taiji even made a KPop-like music video for his song "Human Dream". But let's be clear, Seo Taiji is not KPop, he only inadvertently inspired & influenced the birth of a new showbiz industry eventually called the SK music idol business, since the word "KPop" was really just a nickname. Even the word & concept of "idol" came from the US, going back to the days of Sinatra in the 1940s.

Ethan from h3h3 has said other disgusting things besides mentioning young girls masturbating in relation to BTS. But some always want to forget it because bad things have happened to him and I'm sorry. He can remain a disgusting person who has had bad things happen to them. These are not mutually exclusive things. I'm not forgiving his behavior because others have been mean to him. Sorry not sorry. Those comments from him and all the others were just the tip of the iceberg of the nonsense ARMY has fought against since their "official" debut in the US. What saddens me the most is two things: People said all kinds of things like that without even knowing or understanding what BTS and kpop was. Second thing was ARMY never wanted them to know how hard we fought xenophobes and racists but they knew. We are their shield, our job is to stand guard and many years they never told us that they knew how hard we fought and that they were fighting just as hard behind the scenes (ha!). You don't have to do homework, JUST BE A RESPECTFUL HUMAN BEING! I didn't think when I first saw country music artists "oh they're all drunks and wife beaters right?" You listen to the music and if you find it interesting you look into it and if it's not you move along. Never in absorbing any kind of media did my thoughts EVER go to racism, xenophobia or homophobia. New things don't immediately instill that, bad upbringing or thinking does.

Yessss, Suga's "but by all means, stay healthy," at the end of his verse is one of my favorite things ever. 😆 I love Cypher 4 because it is where you can really see them shifting into a mindset of genuinely not caring what the haters have to say. RM is like, "Your insults are getting a bit boring, can you come up with something new?" and "I don't know you, but you know *me*," lol. There are so many zingers in that cypher.

45:58 at that moment those criticisms just fueled us even more. After the sadness, the anger, we went full Army mode. “We’re gonna promote them like crazy. They’re gonna be so huge that no one will ever dismiss them. And if they do they’re gonna look dumb. We’re gonna make them untouchable”. That was the spirit back then. I always tell my self that if people didn’t attack them unprovoked and so disproportionately, BTS wouldn’t be as huge as they are now, or at least it would’ve taken more time to get to this point. But because of that toxicity, the boys and Army just went “alright bet! I wasn’t gonna do all that, but now you’re talking crazy. So sit down and watch me.”

Maybe they don't have a close idea of what it is like to collaborate and sharing the stage with Seo Taiji is a very significant point in BTS's career, of what they themselves represent as artists. Seo Taiji and Boys is considered the first founding group of modern K-pop that debuted in the 90s and changed the Korean music industry at the time. They made rap metal with components of freedom, rebellion, they talked about experiences questioning the educational system, personal messages and social conscience that attracted the young people of that time, even the ethics committee did not tire of censoring them on TV every time they could😹 it was too much freedom, from then on there was no shortage of companies that wanted to profit and sell with it, that's why we know the current commercial K-pop with a very different idol system from the beginning. BTS had some of those components, recovering that essence both on a conceptual and musical level and giving a voice to youth since their debut, which is why it took 25 years for Seo Taiji to recognize another artist with a social conscience to whom he could pass the torch and proclaim them. as his successor in 2017 telling them "THIS IS YOUR GENERATION NOW" at his 25th anniversary concert. Seo Taiji also asked BTS to remake his classic Come Back Home, I'm sure you'll love that song, it has its own MV and a perfect interpretation in live performance by the rapline and vocal line These and many influential Korean music artists congratulate and recognize the impact of BTS

The boys knew a lot of things that had been said about them both good and bad. Even up to this day they are very much in the loop enough for Namjoon to say even after they became Time Magazine’s Entertainer of the Year and topped the BB charts that he doesn’t think they have earned the respect of the western industry. They know what’s going on on social media. I think it’s because they have autonomy on the things that they do and does not have the usual setup where the management shields the artists and filters everything for them. That is why it’s so important for this fandom to show more love and support for Bangtan when the noise of hate, ignorance and judgement are thrown their way. Even as the superstars they are now they are still not immune to people’s hate. I just admire them for being so level headed. They have more class than anyone, never stooping down to haters and just letting their success speak for themselves. They know their worth and They know how to choose their battles. Haters don’t deserve a minisecond of Bangtan’s time and attention. Let the dogs bark while the lions play 😉

That was the era where I myself admittedly spat back with the same toxicity to those haters. I never regret doing that, BTS didn’t deserve any of those hates. We army’s learned to angry stream back then and bully them all in the charts and votings. We started studying how every chart works, how to playlist properly, etc. We wanted to prove that BTS wasn’t just some “little K-pop boys we like because it’s our fetish”. Anyway that guy who spoke like that against BTS choked on his own words after, now he’s saying he loves BTS. What made me realize that RM watches social media comments and conversations in real time is when (years ago), Army was having a debate on BTS' group Instagram account about whether or not BTS should have accepted an invitation to perform a concert in Saudi Arabia (a first for any K-Pop group), given SA's human rights violations and demeaning and oppressive stance on women and the LGBT community. Two opposing Armys were really passionate about their views, and the debate was getting heated. As soon as the last comment was made by the Army, who thought BTS should go ahead and perform in SA, in order to help shatter stereotypes and hatred in that part of the world, RM entered the conversation and replied "Thank you."

I think that you did not have the opportunity to see a complete performance of Mic Drop, it is a sin to discard it 😹 for that I recommend the MAMA 2017 when they had the opportunity to perform in front of the same haters or mic drop in the Love Yourself Tour is the essence and pure fire of BTS on stage something that the members boast and are proud of to this day 2017 was also a difficult year, they had to show that they remained relevant, the victories of 2016 were not pure luck, it was not just a passing fad, they demonstrated in the Love Yourself era that they are here to stay on the rise, breaking barriers that no one imagined.

BTS has proved to us over the years that they see everything we see. They’ve verbally confirmed this many times (most notably during the 2021-NOT 2022, for my ARMYs-Festa dinner). But we’ve rarely seen them react to the hate outside of their music. We have seen them react when ppl disrespect them to their faces tho. For example one of the clips in this episode was of a paparazzi trying to take pics of BTS during a closed filming in LA and the guy got pissed and said they’d lose their fame and be outta LA in no time. All BTS did was laugh and then Hobi said “tell him thank you for worrying about us.” Most in person instances were like that but as far as the social media stuff goes, responses to that were only shown in their music and brief moments when the guys would allude to it by saying they know what we go through to protect them on social media. BTS used to be on social media, especially Twitter, a looooot more than they have been in recent years. So, then seeing the negativity was inevitable. If ARMYs see it, BTS see it.

The only time i can recall them being somewhat more direct is when they were in the states at some Variety event in 2019 and some lady was complaining about the guys wearing makeup and then afterwards Jin tweeted selfies of himself, basically captioning it ''didn't want the makeup to go to waste so here are some photos'' 😂

I stopped listening to radio and watching MTV in the 90’s because of rap and hip hop. It just got too vulgar. Pop music in the late 90’s no longer held the passion I felt from prior music. BTS brought back my feelings of passion for their music. I love their rap and hip hop.
@Mamadun3
@Mamadun3 8 месяцев назад
@@sharonnelson3713 I get what your saying. I have always loved music and dance although never formally trained. The 90’s music was, to me, too whiny. Too many songs lamenting their circumstances. When I accidentally discovered BTS on a Jimmy Fallon clip of their On performance. I felt the music in a way I hadn’t in a long time. I started singing and dancing again. So, no matter what I will always care about these young men because they gave me back what my soul had been longing for, my love of music.

for all we know no one of the BTS had plastic surgery, Namjoon had gone for a surgery for septum deviation. It is a condition that occurs when the septum - the bone and cartilage that divide the nasal cavity of the nose - is displaced to one side, He can't sleep well because of that, that is why he needed to do it. Those haters that time and up until now just creating issues here and there is just evidence that they can't accept that Bangtan's success, Namjoon is right they will continue being like that coz they are not focusing on other things except hate. I am grateful for all ARMYs who fought during this time. As a 2019 ARMY I am in awe of all of you and our boys who came through stronger. Just seeing what they still have to put up with and the lack of support in SK (not the day-to-day people) breaks my heart. Becoming ARMY was a jump into the deep end of all sort of -isms of hate. It was eye-opening in the worst way. The shinning light is how our boys and ARMYs acted in response and I became ARMY because of the boys example of keeping their dignity in the face of the crap and going forward with love and positivity.

As much as Covid crushed their tour I think it also helped because so many new fans had time to sit and watch!!!! I remember how we bombarded so many radio shows being racist and xenophobic just because ARMY requested their song to be played to the radio. The hate is so unprovoked too. Oh radio hosts and stations who treated them nice received flowers and gifts from army as a thanks for playing their song. It's that simple to be kind but American media is not too welcoming for them aside from wanting to get the clicks and clout they brought

In 2017 an 18 we were in constant defense of BTS. The hatred once the world realised BTS had a huge following, just took off in the US media. Everyone calling them feminine, nobodies, robots, saying their following was fake, it was all bots. Honestly, we thought 2017 was the worst, but then some bad stuff happened in 2018 and global hateful people took off with it and twisted normal things into some truly awful things. Through this all though we learnt to silently remove people in social media by reporting and not making a single comment to give them the attention they were looking for. We even did it to huge magazines who would then pull articles that they expected to sell millions of magazines for, then re write a respectful article. It's been a huge learning curve going from early army days through to where we are now. It's been a crazy time

It was hard for Army at the time because they knew what the group wanted them to do.. leaving it to be said through their music.. but it was difficult to sit back let them cop all this unfounded rubbish regarding them as people and artists... so whilst these haters did cop quite a lot of grief from Army at the time... It is still hard... it still happens even today.... we also supported them as we do now by buying their albums, streaming their tracks, for KArmy they would attend every event possible to let the group know they were there... Back in the day RM has been known for translating some of the comments for the members to only positive words... Having said that.. the group did know everything that was going on... they heard and saw all of the garbage that was being thrown at them... Again.. without KArmy from those early pre-debut days it may have been a different story... I will be forever grateful to them. 💜

The thing is that even if the negative voices aren't the minority, they're so persistent and loud and often have institutional backing. These things have continuously happened since the moment they stepped foot in the West (eg Topps trading cards, the radio host about their Fix You cover, a multitude of other djs who jump to disrespect them). This is why ARMY has fought so hard. The promoting and charting has been about yes, getting them the recognition they deserve, but also about giving them a layer of protection and hopefully making them untouchable. I think it's pretty clear now that if you mention BTS in a nasty way, it's gonna cost ya. I think it's beautiful that they've always said their goal is to be a shield against criticism for youths (and ARMY in general) and that's why they're Bulletproof. And we've become their shield too. The symbiosis between Bangtan and ARMY is like nothing else.

Just because they break all stereotypes and start to growing around the world. As an ARMY at that time. It was hard but so enlightening. How BTS handled things back then was a learning process for me on how to handle unreasonable criticism. Especially the ones that are due to envy, ignorance and close-mindedness. Back then, I have to always defend why I love BTS. But after this time, I was like, do you really want to know about BTS and why I love them? Will you give time to learn about them? Do you want to understand why they have ARMY and why we have a beautiful relationship with BTS? And from all of this, I was able to apply it to my personal struggles. And that even cemented why I am in this Bangtan s**t for life! ApoBangpo! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 2025 y'all! Seokjin-ah is coming back soon! 🎉🤗💜

Even with how big they are now, they still get these types of comments and criticism. Sometimes, RM addresses them in his Vlives/Weverse lives. I won't say they're immune to it but I think they try to focus more on the positive side. When they didn't win the Grammy last time, RM said the following one of their Permission to Dance in Las Vegas concert: “I know there’s a lot of noise out there about the Grammys, but you know, why give a s*** about it? Hating is their freedom, and they have their right to hate, but if it was me, I’d rather just talk with my friends in some cafe and then forget about it. Rather than tweeting about it or some interview. I won’t do that because I’m a grown up. But anyway, we didn’t come to Vegas for the Grammys , we came to Vegas for the ARMYs!” “The records, the titles, the accomplishments, the trophies, they’re really important, but that wasn’t the first thing, the first reason why we started all these things. These two hours communion, energy, eye to eye, singing along, dancing together, this communication, this is everything. This is why we’re doing this right? I hope you know it. I love you. Let the haters hate, let the lovers love. Peace!“ And this, is just one of the many reasons why we love BTS. ApoBangPo! 💜

Yeah, they've seen the negativity and drama and occasionally say something that makes it obvious they've seen it. BUT, unlike a lot of less mature artists, they don't react to it in public and just focus their thoughts and emotion into their art. They have said they don't want to embarrass or make the other members or their families or ARMY look bad so they don't feed into or create drama in the public view. I am so grateful for the team that BangPD created around them to help counsel and protect them when they needed it and as they have said as well, i am so grateful the seven of them have each other. But haters and media and others like to create drama, especially when they are bored or jealous or feeling irrelevant. All the special articles and stuff these days talking about a present without BTS while they are enlisted and "what are people going to do to fill the void?" kind of crap - it is exhausting TBH but the GOOD thing is that those who have been around a while know not to engage on social media with those looking for attention, so that we can be a positive reflection on the guys. Also, with all the gifts that they have left for us and all the content they have put out, we are certainly NOT going to have a void to fill. They fill it very nicely just how they are and we cannot wait to start welcoming them back, one by one starting this summer with Jin. Just remember Mic Drop. 💜

One of the big big respect I got for BTS is they never once directly or specifically adress and response on the hates they got except through songs or through their official statement from companies if ithe issue serious enough. They never talk shit about other artists too. I don't think they didn't know about all these racists and homosexual remarks. They know but choose to be silent and let the company handle that and I think that's a good decision especially for their mental health and not making it a big deal. Because let's be real, if BTS directly ask their fans to attack back to one person, the fans definitely gonna do it and ruin this particular person online. I believe BTS know it's not worth it. I mean at the end of the day, they still winning in the industry and the fans already back them up. But of course it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. And yeah I agree with you guys that it's good that they focus on their fans and the positivity of the situation.
