Bubby Lewis on the Roland VB-99 V-Bass System 

Does anyone know the brand of fingers he's using.

I don't get the deal about all the people who complains about bass players who play the bass in a different way. It's all about music. Who cares if someone plays 7 string bass or uses a midi sistem to get different sounds? Take care of your bussines. Play and let play.

absolutely insane. i specialize in songcraft but before i had to stop being a sideman (Ifinshed my gigs on bass) I've now fall in love with the bass not just because it is molds the foundation of rhythm and melody the best, but because grooving just makes me happy. Heres my issue though: ITS BEEN 8 YRS SINCE THIS WAS UPLOADED AND I HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING LIKE THAT COMMERICIALLY AVAILABLE! Simply amazing man. i envy that toy of yours.

my favorite bass player ( this dude is out of this world (seriously speaking) ) how does he get to apriciate music some/so much that he becomes part of it.

it could be a video of someone pooping but there is always that one person that will say he/she doesn't like the technique. Oh well, Bubby is a beast and I appreciate his playing and he was doing what he was getting paid or endorsed to do for Roland...check his other RU-vid videos for more lessons/sessions.

So these aren't being produced anymore, and the Boss GT-10B has been discontinued for some time now. Is there anything in the works with top notch multi effects boards for us bass players like there are for guitar players?

Absolutely, it can sound like almost anything. You can even go stereo out with clean, unaffected bass (your bass's natural sound) on one channel (usually the left side) and the effect on the other side (usually right ). But they don't make these anymore. You can buy them used though. I'm hoping they'll make a newer and even better one some day, but they might give up on these because the Boss GT-10B also made by Roland sells so much better and sounds almost as good (even better on some things).

i can find the VG-99 but its hard to find the VB-99, i wonder if i can buy the VG and get the bass pickup mount separate?

Wow, this seems to track really well for bass string ranges. I would like to audition this sometime. Would it work well with piezos, and string with alternate tunings?..I presume so.

lol neh man he is incredible.. a true musician.. check out more of his vids.. people have put up a bunch of vids of him... he's a great dude to.. good good friend of mine.. yeah ive used in the studio before.. i never really experience any lagging.. i did a song for the MTD album that released in Jan of this year.. everything is from the VB and GT.. i only programmed the drums.. it really keeps up well.. your gonna love it man.. i use this baby all the time..

Hi there, if you look closely at around exactly 2:17, to our left of his right hand, there is a long black and thin pickup under the strings, I'm assuming that's the midi pickup :)

yep it can tune your strings to whatever you want them to be.. really high tek stuff.. even an individual string can be tuned by itself..

yep you can even change the tuning of your bass from the pedal.. meaning you can tune to E and tell it to drop that string down to C if you wan..

Sorry to be a pain but does string age affect the tone of the modelled basses. In other words if I slap with old strings using the music man model will it sound like new strings. hope you get what I mean.

Does the VB-99 require the GK-3B midi pickup? I heard it does but I don't see it installed in your bass, maybe I'm wrong.

With this system you have two outputs, the midi pickup and the bass itself, You can use midi only, bass only or both at the same time. If you want to sound like a clean bass you just switch off the midi pickup

of course it can.. maybe you should check out some of the sounds it has...

actually it does have many guitar sounds on it.. it may not be a guitar but it can actually sound like it.. all for the fun tho lol..

neh because its MIDI it will pick up whatever slap sounds the pedal has. so honestly its ok if you have older strings..

His index middle technique is mind blowing. But it almost seems too good for a bass. No one would set out to have technique that good.

No disrespect to Hadrien its just that his style does not do anything for me. Having said that I have only heard a brief couple of clips of him on you tube. On a different note do you ever use the Vb-99 midi feature in the studio I understand its a bit laggy but I don't know one end of a keyboard from the other is it OK just to play into Cubase for instance. Hope to get my unit next week.
