Love these kind of reviews! So much more honest and intriguing! Love when you try to max out the speakers and show headroom and give your subjective take on it.
What a fantastic video. Love the no B.S., no hype, tell-it-how it is thoughts. The comparison vs the Klipsch is food for thought. I own the A10s and have been comparing them for the last few weeks against these set-ups... Merason DAC > Rega Aethos > Neat Petite 30 (about 2x the price of the Buchardt/Primare) Merason DAC > Hegel H390 > Dynaudio Heritage Special (about 3x the price) A few thoughts... 1. It's interesting your tests involve driving the snot out of them. For me I'm the exact opposite, I listen at 65db peaks on most evenings and generally 75db peaks are plenty enough for me to rock out a little. Low listening performance is critical to me. Here the A10s with DSP excel - though that Dynaudio set-up are the two best low level champs I've heard (BTW studies have shown hearing damage happens at prolonged exposure above 85db) 2. It's interesting you found moving your head up and down annoying. I experienced this with either moving my head side to side or not sitting exactly centre. When I did this I could clearly hear the tweeter which isn't the case with either of the other set-ups, where the speakers disappear much more easily. I've largely solved this with extreme toe-in. But yeah, if set-up isn't perfect with the A10s there are problems. They are quite fussy in that respect. Also a little more soundstage height would be nice. Those are may main two issues with the A10. 3. Agree with the Primare app, it is slow, buggy and annoying. And the lack of Tidal connect is a bummer. I may have to get an external streamer so I can use Roon (no idea when Roon will be on the Primare) because the app kills the user experience. The Primare unit and remote are very nice though. 3. BTW, did you know you can increase/decrease the db level for each app/input? I wonder if doing that may have given you more headroom, perhaps you're already aware. 4. Vs the other two more costly set-ups, I prefer the A10s, even with it the niggles. It has all the clarity and resolution, and soundstaging, of the Dynaudios (which are highly rated) but when it comes to poor recorded tracks it doesn't make your ears ache like the Dynaudios can, they are quite ruthless. Plus there's a bit more warmth and body in the mids which is highly addictive. It's scary how close the two set-ups are in performance level give the price difference, but the A10 edges it. Not perfect but bloody impressive for my specific needs. If you needed to rock out at high levels the Dynaudios would win though. Guess there's only so much you can push a smaller woofer before physics kicks in. (Kef KC62 sub on route!) Anyway, keep up the awesome reviews. Currently my favourite audiophile channel :) Chris
I am thinking of purchasing the a10's and feeding them with a Eversolo DMP-A8 and a pair of rel subs. Also have been looking at the Kef LS 60's with same subs and source. Thoughts?
@@jaredpmoser I have the same Eversolo. The DAC in it is decent but has that typical DS sound... I preferred the DAC in the speakers which I believe are BurrBrown. A more natural pleasing sound to me. The Eversolo streamer is decent too, better than a £500 iFi - the Primare streamer is about the same level as the Eversolo with the benefit of wireless. But the primare app is awful, unless you're using Spotify connect you're limited (no Tidal connect and no idea when it will be Roon ready. I have a Silent Angel Z1 which is a Room Core and Bridge in one box which solves the Primare's limitations perfectly. Z1 > Primare > A10 (wireless) = sweet! Hope that helps. Never heard the Kefs
@@jaredpmoser that will work for sure. You lose the DSP room correction (for that you'll need the Platain Hub or Primare Pre) but Eversolo -> A10 is a nice tidy set-up
@@Chris._.B I am just looking for a way to hook up my turntable have some streaming and dual sub outs for 2 rel subs. Just was looking for the easiest option on how to accomplish
I have been watching reviews of all manner speakers and systems for many years now. Without a doubt. You spend the time to expose the potential of these two speakers. It is what it is with no favouritism. This video really showed the differences with headphones on of course plus data. Well done sir. Just a fan from Vancouver Island BC Canada.
Wow, what a great comparison! Thank you for taking the time to do this and for inviting us along with you on the journey. I own the Klipsch RP600 MkII and use them in a bedroom setup - and I LOVE THEM! I use them with a Cambridge Audio Minx X201 small subwoofer to round out the low frequencies. This gives me a very pleasurable listening experience. Thanks again!
I really enjoyed this experiment and soundclips👌 I can def. hear Klipsch 'roots', in other words, a lively and engaging character. This time they tuned it quite nice, wow. I think they did an outstanding job here and well worth the asking price, imo. The A10's are def. good/better in certain parts, but like you said, what is it you're after.. Thank you, good stuff!
I truly enjoy this style of video. Thank you for the time you put into it. I must say, I have a pair of the original RP600m. I use them in my mancave. The same room where I took the photo of my JBL L100 classic 75th. The room is roughly 3.5 meters square. I also have a pair of ELAC unifi reference bookshelf speakers. The Klipsch are my favorite in that room. I often find myself listening and saying to myself “what more can I really want”. The sound is excellent. I pair them with an SVS 3000 micro and my Outlaw Audio RR2160 mk ii. The sound is superb really. Especially for the price.
same experience here with the originals RP-600m I use them with a PrimaLuna tube amp and man... sometimes I ask myself why I keep my main system 10x or 20x more expensive. No matter what haters say, the Klipschs are AMAZING!! 😱
@@net_news so true ! I have a pair of Cornwall iv’s in my main system. They can’t be beat for scale but those little RP600 m are awesome especially for the price.
Interesting video. Please, please try the Buchardts with your Lyngdorf MP-40 via XLR. In addition, I would be curious if you were able add corner loaded pair of BW2 (crossed at 45ish, if possible). Thanks in advance.
Really appreciate the review. I'm considering moving over to powered speakers and bookshelf ones, at that. Based on what I heard (over RU-vid and my headphones), I'd tend to go with the Buchardts ,,, thanks for posting.
With speaker comparison, I set up speakers in AB-AB so that each set has equal distance between the pair. If you use AB-BA, then A will have a wider/bigger sound
Hi there! Headroom with active speakers benefit from adding a sub. I think the A10 with a sub go to the next level. I personally used them at first without and was content with the bass due to their nice tuning but when I eventually added my sub with a small Wisa wireless adapter I haven’t looked back. You can corner load the room with the sub and the room correction fully benefit the added gain and correct accordingly. My 2cents.
@@stjernholmreviews I use the beolab receiver 1 from B&O. Roughly €200 works a charm. All connected to the Platin stereo hub. Have a B&W PV1D and if I trust the app the response is flat down to 20hz. Main benefit of course is now crossed at 80hz the headroom is much improved and as the speakers are placed on a wide sideboard they also don’t vibrate as much.
Using a sub defeats the whole idea of these, really. I'm not saying they don't sound better with a sub, I'm saying that you could use another not artificially bassy speaker with subs and probably get a better result..
These A1-'s gp dee[, but for true movie experience their brand new sub is highly recommended. For music it should not be an absolute must though. @@razisn
Very interesting comparison and I wonder if there'll ever be someone again who pairs a 6 grand amp with speakers that cost 13% of that 😅 I value the precise bass in Purifi driver equipped Buchardt speakers in combination with the very low bass they deliver. And the bass-mid drivers have so little distortion that the music sounds "purer" to my ears. I run them in a small room and the SPL limits are not an issue there (would be different in a bigger room). Conventional speakers with vented enclosures seem to put "additives" into the music in comparison (at least to my ears - maybe because of longer decay of impulses in the mid-woofer?). That's not good or bad, just different. For very dynamic sound I also have a second set of speakers (in a bigger room), but I went for a 15"+1.4" horn combination (Joseph Crowe 1815) that can do 120+ dB if pushed with Watts. And that's also more linear sounding than Klipsch systems (w/o need for correction).
I feel that the room correction of the Primare/Buchardt setup was mostly positve, but somehow that it also slightly messed up the phase behaviour of the speakers resulting in a less stable stereo image...
Dennis, its one of the things that are actually hard to judge 100% on the recordings to be honest. You get a much better feel for dynamics and overall tonality than the imaging.
I have listened to your review of these two speakers 5 times now. It’s important because the mind cannot gather that much information in one listen. After many sessions of listening to this with my Sennheiser momentum 4’s? I have to agree. I did watch and listen to a comparison between the the Buchardt A500 and the A10. The A500 is tuned to give you the same as the improved 600. That tenth row air. The A500 does it better in my humble opinion. Again. Just love the depth of your reviews
Hi there, love the song intro, rolof 😅 I am seriously thinking about ordering the A10. Some concerns about your take on them, but there is a good return option if they dont live up to expectations. Have you thought about having a hearing test, frequency test for your listening buddies, some people enjoy screaming speakers because of lost frequencies ??? Keep up the good work!
Nothing beats trying speakers at home! Go for it. All speakers are a series of compromises, and the A10 is a special one at that. Listening team members have different abilities, young and old, different experiences and so on - just like all the viewers. None have serious hearing damage and follows the natural decline in high frequencies. Most importantly, they all hear a shitload of different music and systems.
49:39 Your dog wasn't out there because, like you said, you didn't walk around with the calibration mic that would have opened the soundstage and image on the buchardt.
Just curious about using the Buchardts wirelessly - I assume they're active speakers with on board dac's, so the wireless part is the music being streamed to them?
Yes. WISA is a 24 bit / 96Khz wireless transmission standard. In theory as good as a cable if the transmission is solid, + all the variables there is with the transmitter itself, that becomes important for the final sound. If wireless transmission is NOT nessasary for your setup, I would recommend using a cable simply for less potential hassle. Some might even like to "color" the sound using a preamp they like and so on.
Thank you for this, though it throws up more questions than provides answers for me. I have pondered Buchardts- possibly the A700 LE. I also watched your TDAI 3400 review, because that is an option with a decent DAC and great room correction etc.. You and others kinda intimated it could be bland or boring. Maybe I should just get my 15" Altec Lansings out of storage and the (large) cabinets refurbished, because they do not sound compressed at higher SPLs. The TDAI may be overkill for such sensitive speakers.
@adrianrorvik7488 the 3400 is really a powerhouse of great software and processing features, that can accommodate almost any setup. Only handicap is the poweramps, that for some reason is boring over time. BUT... the rest of the machine and software is such a powerful tool and a pleasure to use, that its really the basic building block for any experimenting audiophile and and at the same time, IT JUST WORKS and is such a sweet thang in everyday use. NOBODY has anything like this, that is so refined. You could use the build in amps to drive passive subs, its that flexible. I use it all the time, and often end up with it for clients, where nothing else makes sense as a solution. Just use the poweramp you like the most with it, and consider the 3400 a preamp / processor with a built in powerful amp.
@@stjernholmreviews Thank you very much for this great way of looking at it. I "hear" you, having NCore amps that I may use to drive some subs in the future.
Awesome video! I think it would be better to flip the speakers over on one side so they are the same distance apart to determine sounstage and imaging etc.. example being, if looking at the speakers from left to right it would be, speaker a and b on the left and then speaker a and b on the right.. Toe in the speakers accordingly to aim at the listening position. Not sure if i've explained this that well and of course, it's just my opinion. :) Thanks again.
I put on the Herbie Hancock song and went A/B between the Buchardt and Tidal... I almost prefer your video to the Tidall file. Better sub-bass and more airy. I dont get it. Very good video BTW, my first time here. Excellent.
17:48 Is that a full screen spectrum analyzer display? With no peripheral icons etc. shown (better)? What software/how are you getting that? Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
Funny… no mention of the Buchardt reaching 25hz… I have those A10 and I tell you, it is impossible for the Klipsch to reach near that. (Probably not much under 50hz) The limitation (that you can over ride in the app under each speaker level) is because of that reach in sub frequency. If you limit them like the klipsch to 50hz, you can go louder. But why getting such a full range speaker to cut there balls…? And if you like that “richness” of the klipsch (I don’t ), go boost 200hz on the Buchardt eq.
It's not a review of the A10. Well, a lot can be discussed about taking a tiny, sealed speaker to 25Hz, sir :-) The distortion levels alone, if you ask for 90dB SPL.. It only makes real sense with very moderate SPL. So the question is more: "Who are crazy enough?" (crowd screams: BUCHARDT! in the answer :-D ) On the other hand, with the voicings users get a lot of flexibility, and I can see the A10 becoming a monster, if a sub is taking over the work below 80Hz.
@@stjernholmreviews you are right about A10 not being a party speaker ;) I owed focal studio monitor with sub (killer SPL) and I have Lintons in my living room… low frequency is not just SPL (like in home cinema). The A10 are clearly going down to 25hz and they are very accurate at 80db (more then the focal with sub). I can easily hear the difference between Lintons (35hz) and A10 sub frequency reach. The RP 600 are not in the game at all without a sub… but for party with no sub bass… I guess so! Cheers!
@@stjernholmreviews TL;DR A10 are shit and wasted my money on them (still waiting on the delivery) , watching your video and your comments it seems I made the wrong choice.....shit...
Looking forward to the full review. Hoping you may do some content with the Platin hub vs premier ? Be good to know if there’s any sonic benefits from one to the other or it’s just extra functionality for the cash 🤔
Main important conclusion for me is the Klipsch is excellent value when it can be compared to another speaker costing 5 times as much (even if it is an active one). It makes even more sense if you already run passive speakers so you already have the gear to make the Klipsch work. I'm thinking of maye buyingthe Klipsch now, but the buchardts are way too expensive for me.
@stjernholmreviews Thank you. Tremendous video by the way. I have 2 Adire Audio (classic brand year ending 2004) Brahma 15 XBL^2 motor, that are unused and new. One will replace my rear seat :D. Have a wonderful day.
“Thin 80’s music”….. maybe that’s something you could talk about some day ? The technicalities behind that. I LOVE the 80’s. Rock and metal especially. I grew up with that music. Listening to it and playing it(as a drummer). Listening to it today, most of it does sound lifeless, unfortunately.
Oh yes! Good idea. The amount of bass that has entered modern productions 40 years later are insane in comparison. Karstens "heavy metal" always makes me smile. See/hear: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1vJ7L_Sou6I.html&si=t1GhjA4JhKKtvy6G
Really enjoyed the Review. I am researching the A10s quite a bit because I think of buying them. I was suprised that you did not get the same Bass levels you had in your first reaction Video because a lot of other reviewers mention the Great Bass of the A10 as well. Hence I would be interested on how you did drive the First pair of A10 in the First reaction. Was it xlr or wireless? If Wireless, Primare or Platin hub. I got the feeling that the primare was the weak part in your comparison and would love to understand this better before I buy BTW was the volume Limited to 75% in the Primare. Ive Seen somewhere that it is initially configured Like that. Anyway. Keep up the great work and I would really appreciate your Feedback Kind regards Martin
Martin, thats a big one. Get subscribed, and check out the coming Buchardt A10 review where we cover a lot of this. There is so much to talk about with that system.
Maybe update the firmware on your SC15, I have the NP5 Mk1 and it's showing as Roon Ready with me. They're all the same platform, would be surprised if your primare is any different.
I was thinking to selling my kef r300 and arcam amp and dac and streamer for a10... simplify things but now i feel like i will be giving alot of quality clarity sound stage and so on with not much sound benefits. Most probably kef r3 meta with a good integrated amo will be better for me....thanks for the video
As a previous owner of kef r300 then r3 with dual svs sb300 subwoofers, musical fidelity m6si, rme adi dac... currently being an owner of A10 with no sub setup, i can tell you that going back to the kef would be a truly sad moment for me. If you have savings, just order A10 tryout, it's worth it.
Thanks for the video. By the way Stjernholm in all honestly ...you should remove your cap as it reflect oncoming sounds AND you need to use another seating apparatus, that does Not reflect sound right back from behind your ears, and change the aural experience. Just sayin' 🙂
@@stjernholmreviews Yes, the two mics we carry around on our heads I clean every couple of days, but the listening position is a big one. By the way, do you ever 'pop' your ears before every listening session? Hold your nostrils, and close your mouth while trying to blow? Try and it shows if it's blocked or pops. It makes a big diferance mon sherry... hahaha. See, and hear my prototypes without any fancy mics, that I need to get. Keep truckin'.
