For a SOUND DEMO of the S300 MK2 SE I have made one directly comparing them to the KEF LS50 Meta found here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tW-Mgk3vck4.html
i dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost the login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Branson Kody I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks Thomas, I always think something similar, I mean about how you explain things so well compared to me when I watch your videos :) I realise that could have come across totally different to how I meant it. I wasnt being arrogant, I was being the opposite - sorry if you read that the other way around
Your descriptions are the most practical of all reviewers I’ve seen, for those actually looking to purchase a pair of speakers. Great comparisons, too.
I love my s300's so smooth, I have about 4 amplifiers I tried with them and it's amazing how little different amplifiers actually change the sound. This means the crossover is good. 😁
I really liked your comparison, I’ve got a pair of S300s on their way to hook into a 40w tube amp, and I just can’t wait. With the tubes, they sound like they’re going to pair really well. Really enjoyed your detailed response.
Great comparison, I enjoyed hearing your description of the differences. I’d be tempted to have both sets of speakers in my house If I had the space for 2 systems.
Fantastic review! I’ve had s300 for a couple of years now and love them but still trying to get the best set up for them. Do you mind sharing how you set them up for best sound (i.e. distance from wall behind speakers, side walls and toe in. Does toe in cross behind your seating position or in front). Looking forward to your next review!
Fantastic first two videos in that mega group test! Can't wait to see the SCM11 in-room frequency response. Do you fine tune things with Dirac for the reviews in this group test?
I listen to the speakers with and without Dirac, I listen to them without first and then measure and its always interesting to see how the speakers are behaving in my room compared to what I have just been hearing. For this review I did almost the identical calibration of both speakers as they measure so similar so I could put both on on an equal playing field room removed as much as poss and see what was what. This will be a little clearer in my next video
Great content, Terry! Have you listened to the Monitor Audio Silver 100? If not, I’d like to see how they stack up to the competition. They are in same category as the others in terms of price. Thanks!
I have had these for half a year now paired to my SVS Pro Soundbase and I have been very satisfied. Especially when I only paid 700€ second hand for these. What a bargain!
I like the "no fuss" look of the S300, a lot more than the s400. I'd love to have a pair in black though. ☺️ I wonder how this speaker would sound if connected to the REGA Elex-R? If I only had the funds, I bet this system would be a killer... 😁 Thank you for this review, take care!
I’ve had a pair of S300’s for a couple years now and have been quite happy. They use good quality SB Acoustics drivers. Last fall I recapped the crossovers, replacing Bennic with ClarityCap CSA which added detail and some nice midrange character. Wonderful but still can’t quite keep up with my Gallo Nucleus Ref. 3.1’s but no shame there.
Goldenear BRX - given the AMT of the BRX it would make for an ideal addition to the host of speakers currently in your shootout. For as we know, individual's likes and dislikes of the Tweeter itself (and it's tuned presentation) can often be the deciding factor for most. Followed second by the Bass extension for all those not planning on implementing a Subwoofer(s). So yeah, the Goldenear's AMT would bring a nice MIX to this group of bookshelf speakers.
I did speak to Goldenear and they chose not to include any speakers in the group test, but did hint at me reviewing a full home cinema setup of them so there is a possibility I will look at some later in the year
@@PursuitPerfectSystem oh geez, that's both unfortunate and surprising. OK, that would be good (Surround setup). I for one would love to hear your take on the BRX, or at least Goldenear's Ref AMT in any of their speakers, given that you have already reviewed 2 out of 3 other contenders on my short list.
@@johndaddabbo9383 thanks John nothing is planned so I can't give you an eta on it but I did speak to them about it when I have worked through this group test I can start planning other things
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Oh definitely... I won't hold you to it... Although it would surely be a good thing to not only hear your take on Goldenear, but also Cinema setup (Bass management, Multi-Sub, and the likes). And who better to hear from than an expert in Dirac! (hopefully you'll have access to Dirac's new Multi-Sub software module for that full Cinema setup evaluation).
They sound ideal, and sounds mostly how I would describe my KEF R5 - and on that point have you lined up the R3 for this test, bookshelves and on budget. I’ve not heard the R3 but imagine they share the same traits as my R5, so I think (biased of course!) they would have to be in with a shout at being outright winners.
These are very good speakers but I have a limited setup space and they did not perform well about one foot from the wall on my shelf. I reluctantly returned because they just wouldn't get up and do it. This is a situation peculiar to me but if you have to place speaker close to the wall, something to consider. Using the plugs in the ports didn't rectify the situation.
Hi, I followed your beautiful domestic HT setup with the KEF R front and the LS50s for surround. If you had to start now, which speakers would you use? Any views on KEF LS50 vs Buchardt vs Wharfedale EVO vs other (eg SVS Prime/Ultra) for HT use with a dual SVS PB3000 subwoofer setup? I would like to upgrade but tbh not sure what path to take. I currently have the LS50W for stereo music, and a 7.2.4 HT with Wharfedale Diamonds, so I know the difference between warm and easy vs bright and clear. I just can't make up my mind about what should be better for an upgraded HT!
Great video! I would like to ask about amplifier. I own S300 and using them with Audiolab 8200a. Im gonna change it soon, and im looking for some advices. What amplifiers will be good, and strong enough to run with S300? Thanks.
I do think in general we are getting too many bookshelf/stand mount speaker reviews on RU-vid in general. Seems same models are often doing the rounds of the best known reviewers. How about a floor stander shootout in the future?
Maybe lots of reviews but not that many group tests like this - yes floor stander equivalents tests would be good to do as well - stand mounts are easier logistically when you have as many to look at a I do for this test
It's going to be a slug fest between these little giants. Looks like the reigning sales champ in this category ( META) is slightly ahead in points in the early rounds. Terry, for us F1 fans is tough when you upload a review on exactly race start Sunday. I had to wait to the race end to view the review. Thanks, nonetheless.
Having owned both the LS50 (Mk1) and the S300MkII, I can say that I've never seen a more accurate summation than in this review. I settled on the Buchardt in the end. The "wooliness" (my description) of the Buchardt, as you can see in the response graph, is caused primarily by the rear port. By it's nature, the port bass is ill defined because it is not a signal from the amplifier so much as from the cabinet and isn't in phase with the woofer signal. One can mitigate this somewhat by partially or fully plugging the port as recommended by Mads Buchardt himself. I recommend the former. It would be nice if he provided foam plugs as you get with the KEFs, but it's not hard to make your own. If you have a subwoofer or two, it's an ideal solution and tightens up the bass nicely. I'm quite happy with mine. The only thing I would consider to replace them would be a real "full range" acoustic suspension design such as the new KLH Model 5. I'm pretty much done with all vented speakers at this point. The bass generated by a sealed speaker is just better - better controlled, more accurate and if done properly, deeper with a more natural roll off. Oh, and passive radiator designs, though less objectionable, suffer from the same faults as bass reflex - inaccurate bass that's not in phase with the rest of the signal.
Will the S300 be more forgiving than Meta also in the mid-bass area? I find the "punch" of the Metas to be a little fatiguing for my ears, too much "in front of your face", I would like a more relaxed presentation where the kick of the drums is more laid back.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem if you can get hold of Muzishare X7 you will be shocked what it offers for the money. It is built in the same factory as Line Magnetic Audio. You can buy it on Ebay or via China Hifi. It is valve sqound but also dynamic.
As I understand the cabinet, which is the most costly part of most speakers, is made in China as is the crossover and then the final assembly and packaging take place there as well.
Floorstanders take up the same space and actually have some bass. Standmount speakers are like half a speaker, but at the full price. Don't get fooled.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem different ears , for me and for the money they are, the mids are colored and the treble are not good. I tried with my audiolab 8300A and my friends musical fidelity m5si and 2 cd players marantz 6007 and a old Denon 1290 and try to my separate dac schiit modo 3
@@LB-rq2ds I compared them to 10 of their price comparison peers and they sounded softer and warmer but that’s by design. How do they achieve that sound by softening the transients, thickening the mids with an upper bass lift and making the treble softer but they measured pretty good so it’s a design choice.
