Thank you for this video! Your criticism is more than fair. You got lots of things right, which is not that common because we rarely make an effort to tell the stories of this city. I am born and raised in Bucharest and I love it. I'll leave here my perspective on some things. Bucharest is like a harsh dialogue between generations and cultures. Many generations just demolished a lot of what was previously built in order to try and implement better things in the fabric of the city, with varied degrees of succes. It is why you see so few really old buildings around. For me, the somewhat chaotic result is something that you love to hate and hate to love. The city is indeed shabby in lots of places. You have to understand that Ceausescu was not your run of the mill late communism dictatorship, and not just from an economical perspective. We shot the mfer during Christmas for good reasons. A guy expressed the situation quite accurately - in the 90s we didn't only inherit an empty well, but also the lie that the well works perfectly. Chisinau, for example, was a wealthier city than Bucharest in the early 90s, despite the diffrence in size. The state properly collapsed, early capitalism was like the wild wild west and changing that took time and money. All of the heavy and medium industry in the city was thoroughly outdated and was eating resources just so that people have a job. Most of it was eventually replaced, but that also took time and money. Time and money that couldn't go in nice public spaces or generally touristy places - the well was pretty much empty. It was a conscious choice, not a lack of know-how. We had to prioritize. We are starting to work on also improving the aspect of the city, so... 10 years. Please visit us in 2033 ^^ Also, the weird, ran down block next to the National Bank is one of the first, if not the first modernist building in the town. We loved the style and we eventually learned how to do art-deco quite well :D The secret service guy approached you because you were standing and filming near their main building. Normally it wouldn't happen, but you can understand these are not normal times. The police on the other hand is visible in / near the old center because, as you've probably seen, a lot of heavy drinking happens around the place. They need to be able to intervene swiftly and also, if possible, rarely. They are not that visible in most places (they are there tho, you don't get to climb from one of the highest crime rates to one of the lowest through prayers). On the other hand, they don't engage without a reason and even when they do, they tend to be polite. They really are not out there to get you, sorry it got weird :( Hope you tried sarmale or ciolan afumat as well. If not, def get some next time. Again, thank you for the video.

Дякую. Було дуже цікаво послухати. Але розчарувало що не приділили достатню увагу паркам. Трохи показали тільки Herăstrău, хоч і великий, але не найкращий і далеко не найсучасніший. Раджу Parcul Drumul Taberei, Parcul Titan + Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park, Parcul Tineretului (основна фішка там Children's World Park якщо з дітьми).

У Румунії варто їхати до Брашова, як на мене. Будете приємно здивовані.

The building symbol of Bucharest, used to be present on many postcards, is the Romanian Atheneum. I would also recommend visiting the Village Museum, alongside Herăstrău Park. And also the Patriarchal Church, near Unirii Square.

На 12.04 аж ніяк не радянський період. 20 - 30 роки 20 сторіччя, стиль модернізм. Чимало таких будинків на Закарпатті, у Львові, Франківську. Трохи є у Запоріжжі та Харкові, тому ж Києві. У багатьох інших містах Європи. Цей стиль перетинається з функціоналізмом та конструктивізмом. Але я не фахівець, пошукайте авторітетні джерела і готуйтеся ретельніше. Поверхневих блогерів вистачає. У вас чудова українська, продовжуйте!

You see how the Soviet propaganda shaped your knowledge about Romania, to think that was "the only country to lose both wars and still increase its territory?" Romania is a friendly country and wants nothing from Ukraine but for the sake of a clear perspective we need to clear up some history here. Truth is that in WW1 after withdrew in the region Moldova Romania and Russia defeated Germany Austria Hungary in the heavy battles of Marasesti, Marasti, Oituz and forced them to recognize its existence as state. And if think that Russia did the job wherever they defended was rather a weakness. Then after Russia withdrew from war and Romania was left alone on the east front, was forced into the Treaty of Snagov from March 1918, which the king did not sign to ratify, waiting for the allies to advance in the Balkans. Bulgaria and Hungary were still quarrelling how to share south Romania when Romania redeclared war on Germany and Austria-Hungary, given that the allies reached Serbia in the south. So before the end of WW1 found Romania remobilized and on offensive in Transylvania. In fact most probably the reentering of Romania in war sped up the capitulation of Austria Hungary. Then after the February 1919 Treaty of Paris traced the borders with Hungary Romania moved in to take its land on the Satu Mare Oradea Arad railway line and defeated every Hungarian attempt to take back Transylvania. The Hungarian Romanian war with the advance of Romanian army first on Tisa river in May, then when Hungary redeclared war in July by August 4 1919 the Romanians occupied Budapest and by 7 August 1919 the entire Hungary was under Romanian occupation. Romanians eradicated Bolshevism in Hungary and placed Horthy in charge, before withdrew to the demarcation line set. By November 1919 Horthy was crying to the Brits to ask Romania at least to let Hungary take over up to Tisa river, but Romania was fair and soon after the elections were held in Hungary and made sure that the Habsburg duality will not be reinstated moved to the line decided in the Peace Treaty, which is also today. This frontier line was set by ethnic majorities, was not an award, and also was heavily influenced by the December 1, 1918 Union declaration of the Transylvanian majority of Romanians and Germans, over 70% that time, against a less than 30% Hungarians that time, after heavy Magyarization since 1880s.. Then on the east and north front they did not tell you in the Soviet union that all Rumcerod Soviet attacks and cross over the Dniester were repelled by the Romanian army and after the civil war started between the whites and reds they had other problems to deal with and gave up. So the Hungarian Soviet plans were to meet up in the middle of Romania and both ended up defeated. That doesn't sound like Romania lost anything in the end! Meanwhile in 1919 the Ukrainian army involved in war with Poland also moved into north Bukovina but were repelled by the Romanians, who then set garrisons in the main cities and Ukraine had to focus on the war with Poland then. And to make it clear about the regions of north Bukovina and north Maramures were historical Romanian lands in history of majority Romanians until medieval times, In north Maramures and Transcarpathia today Hungarian kings resettled the Ruthenians of duke Koriatovich, expelled by Luthuanians from Podolia after 1400s and along Ruthenians the Hungarian kings finally managed to break the Orthodox Romanian resistance in north Transylvania and Maramures, where the Romanians had strong Orthodox presence for centuries, Peri monastic complex in north Maramures was awarded an eparchial Orthodox seat by Constantinople since 1206!, handling 8 districts in north Transylvania, north east Hungary, Slovakia and south west Ukraine today. In early 1400 the last Vlach Romanian ruler of entire historical Maramures - Balc, was killed in battle with the Hungarians, his brother Drag was forced to Magyarize and become Catholic, in order to keep family estates and became Dragfy. By 1439 only Hungarian and Szekely nobles could detain noble titles and land in Transylvania so all the Romanian nobles were forced to Magyarize or lose everything. In 1465 duke Koriatovich burned to the ground the monastic complex of Peri, expanded the Ruthenian settlements in north Maramures and Transcarpathia today and along Hungary forced out and started to slowly assimilate the Romanian majority. What became in time the former Vlach shepherds and mountaineers known today as Gorals, Hutzuls, Boiky, Lemky. I know some strongly deny that but cannot deny genetic, cultural and linguistic heritage. The entire regions toponymy also scream Romanian and at least those in Poland and Czechia agree that are former Vlachs, so no discussion about it. I know in your history manuals Romania comes as occupier of north Bukovina but in 1794 Austria conquered North Bukovina (known as Arboroasa or Tara de Sus in history) from the historical Moldova, an autonomous principality, and after that happened, until before the second half of the 19 century, the Moldovans were still more than 70% of the population, with less than 20% Ruthenians that time. The persecution of Orthodox Romanians by the Austrians forced many to cross into Moldova and Transylvania and then by being depopulated Austrians offered great benefits and land to gradually resettle there many Ruthenians. By 1923 referendum in north Bukovina there were 38% Romanians and 34% Ruthenians, today is mostly Ukrainians. Talking by documents the first attested Ruthenians in north Bukovina were brought by Stephan the Great in 1490s. In Pocutia also, taken from the Poles, settled Ruthenians. The historical north border of Moldova was always on Ceremush river. Above and outside this north border there were of course mostly Ruthenians. Not the same thing can be said about the east. There is a lot to talk about east but if you look, for example at lets say even further east, at Ochakiv and the region around, from an historical perspective, will notice that in medieval times the attested fortress was Moldo-Vlach, and was known as Vozia. Was conquered by the Golden horde in 14 century, Alexandre the Good took it back in 1420s and rebuilt it, then Crimea Tatars got it in 1490s, then the Moldovans took it back. By late 16 century Moldovan ruler Peter IV - the Lame rebuilt it and expand it with 15,000 workers. Cossacks conquered it in 1590s and was a subject of dispute with the Moldovans, before turned to Ottomans in 1596. All the contemporary sources show that the Tartars ruled in that region over Moldovan villages. Then check how many Cossack hetmans were Moldo-Romanians (about 15) or how many many captains or Ukrainian Cossack heroes were of Vlach/Romanian origin and so on. The two ethnic groups, of Vlachs (Daco - Romans) and Ruthenians intertwined a lot in history. These are facts good to know when you talk history about the Romanians, to understand how much and how many of them have become your own culture and nation.

2.Then during the WW2 between April July 1944 3 massive Soviet attacks on the Iasi Chisinau line were repelled by German Romanian defense and even moved out to gain more favorable positions for a counter attack, when in July August the American raids almost destroyed the entire Romanian military production and the Ploiesti oil fields, suppling 40% of German oil. Given this situation by August king Michael had a deal with the Allies to arrest Marshal Antonescu and turn arms against Germany. After Romania declared war on Germany all German attempts to take over major cities and Bucharest were annihilated by the Romanian army the German heads in Romania were arrested then when the job was done and the front line collapsed by the Romanian turn against Germany the Soviets moved in few days later to disarm now the allied Romanian army and send it to gulags. By 16 September 1944 Romania had a written agreement with the Allies and the Soviet Union to mobilize and join the west offensive with 560,000 men and if you think that the west offensive on the Carpathians against Germany Hungary was a walk in the park then search for heavy battles like Oarba de Mures, Sibiu, Carei in Transylvania, where 10s of thousands of Romanians died in the front line to break the German resistance in 2 months, before moving into Hungary and Czechoslovakia, along the Soviet Union and in many cases independently winning heavy battles against German Hungarians, like the Battles of Debrecen, fully Romanian taken and defended against many attempts to take back, or the participation in the Battle for Budapest with 217,000 Romanian. The street by street hard fight was done by the Romanians. Then in Czechoslovakia entire regions and cities entirely taken by the Romanians from Germany. Romania suffered 156,000 casualties only in the west offensive along the Soviet Union. Many crucial battles on the south front were won due to bravery of Romanians, which allowed the Soviet Union to advanced more on the south front and be able to fall behind the Germans in the northern offensive. This was crucial and sped the war end, as Stalin said, with at least 6 months. But consider that if the Soviet Union didn't take east Moldova from Romania Romania wouldn't join Germany in the Operation Barbarossa. And if you think that was nothing just consider that Germany needed the Romanian oil, the food production and the 1,2 Million Romanian army to be able to start a massive invasion of USSR. The battle for Odessa region was an entirely Romanian. 340,000 Romanians at peak against 3 massive defensive Soviet lines of 86,000- at start to 161,000 at peak, 3 months of war. Not talking here about the Odessa genocide, for revenge against the 1940 Soviet genocide and deportations in Siberia of more than 300,000 Romanians. Antonescu and the guilty were judged by the Romanian court and executed in 1945, for the Transnistrian crimes, while Stalin, who murdered 10s of millions, was not. So that's about it.

Despite i am from Bucharest i must agree that the city looks like after some intensive 33 years of bombardment! But beside the Municipality that is responsible for the mess there are also the the residents fault. As you saw, they park their cars everywhere with no regards for pedestrian people. They traw garbage everywhere, they spray graffiti on all buildings etc. I am sorry to say but literally all cities in Romania they look light years away compared to Bucharest. Cluj, Timisoara, Craiova, Oradea or Iasi are more clean and presentable than Bucharest. I wish i could blame it all on Gypsies or the municipality but i cant. People in Bucharest just don't care. They keep talking about "potential" for at lest 20 years yet nothing is done. Bucharest and Constanta are the most backward and dirty cities from all Romania and ironically they should be the best considering that one is the capital and the other is the city on the black sea that supposedly attract tourists. Also i don't think in 10 years will look better. Because i think it looks even worser than 5-6 years ago. So its more probable that it will look even worser than it looks now 🤣

когда цыганщина -- не фигура речи. а дресс-код архитектуры и культуры столицы страны ес... многоэтажки намекают, что у них нет разницы между столицей и селом, такой жути и безвкусицы ожидала от бедных ромских районов, но не в центре города для миллионеров.

Не "хрєн знає що", а один із помітних зразків міжвоєнного модернізму - "Техноімпорт". Коли у Києві таке можна перелічити по пальцях і воно невелике - тут будівлі 1930-х сягають 13 поверхів, а в той час воно взагалі виглядало фантастично. І їх лише порівняно недавно почали відновлювати в нормальному вигляді (до цього об'єкта ще руки не дійшли, але є вже приклади інших реставрованих). Це так як Харків - треба розуміти. Післявоєнка більш типова з дивною для нас тягою до 11-поверховості (можливо, тому що румуни перший поверх не рахують і для них це 10), але тут навіть "хрущоби" (ранні чаушески чи георгіудежки) трохи більш по-людськи зроблені, наприклад може бути 2 входи. І багатоповерхівки після оновлення досить непогано виглядають, хоч і на наш погляд іноді скидаються на поліклініки чи ще якісь нежитлові об'єкти. Подекуди їх встигли розцяцькувати за модою 2000х, але тепер більш стримано, світліше і сучасніше. А от зовсім сучасна забудова якась маловиразна - можливо, сейсмічні міркування стримують політ фантазії, але в нас будують не тільки вище, а й сміливіше (особливо коли орки не заважають). Зате з парками та озелененням тут норм.
