Greetings from Texas! I'm genuinely puzzled by UK laws that forbid carrying locking knives. A blade lock doesn't make the knife more dangerous, and it arguably makes it safer for the user. Knife laws vary from state to state in the US, but where I live the sight of a Buck 110 riding on a man's belt is so common as to be almost unnoticeable.
@SlipjointSawyer
@SlipjointSawyer 11 месяцев назад
I know, it's so bizarre! The laws here are very very strange, a knife is seen as a weapon and not a tool 🫡 thanks for watching

@@SlipjointSawyerit's not bizarre, it's by design.

@SlipjointSawyer the laws are so strict because guns are banned in the UK so all of the criminal gangs fight eachother with knifes and it happens in public constantly. Just like here in California, yes guns are legal to own but the laws on carrying in public are insanely strict because all the criminals constantly shoot eachother.
@acid6urns
@acid6urns 8 месяцев назад
i’m almost 100% sure the locks ban is because you can’t use a non locking knife to stab usually. a slipjoint or friction folder will close on you if you try to stab most of the time.
@acid6urns
@acid6urns 8 месяцев назад
but it doesn’t work wel because knives like spyderco’s UKPK and squeak have finger choils that allow thrusting without your fingers getting cut off

It is telling that the 110 is still relevant and appreciated after nearly six decades, especially with those who could have grandfathers (even Great Grandfathers) who carried, used and liked the 110. I wanted a 110 from the moment I first saw one in 1974. Enjoyed the presentation. Thanks for posting.

My 110 is from the early 1970s and I still use it for field dressing deer. My cousin customized it for me just after I got it, cutting mild finger grooves into the handle’s wood and brass. Still works great.

I have a few 110’s. Love them. My girlfriend was at a garage sale and picked me up a 112 made in 1990 for $5!! It’s in great shape. What a find! Very nice video, thanks.

It is THE KNIFE that started it all when it comes to locking work knives. A knife and hammer in one. I have never needed a soft striking hammer due to having one of these or a glass breaker. Anyone can keep this steel and edge shape razor on a simple V sharpener, car window edge, of base of a teacup. Old world craftsmanship for EVERYONE.

I love these knives, my late uncle used to be a mounted cop in australia, he always had these on his belt and he gave me my 1st buck knife when i was around 9, his 112 had lighter brown in the handle and the 110 was mostly black handle, the buck knife is the reason i have about 30 fixed blades and about 5 nice folders

Great comparison. I enjoy both of these knives for many of the same reasons. The 112 is the easier EDC carry, so I understand why some gravitate towards it, but you mustn't ever ignore the classic 110. Must owns, both.

I passed down my Buck Ranger (model 112) with black phenolic scales to my daughter. I bought it around 1975ish and carried it extensively. It is a bulletproof design. I never saw another one with black scales and think they only made them for a short time before transitioning to ebony like the big brother 110.

Just bought a 110 finger grove model and a 112 for the old man. I needed a good farm knife and have always aspired to owning a Buck. I have been through tens of knives over the years and each has eventually failed. The Buck is legit a tank by comparison to anything else I have owned. Absolutely thrilled with it..... Anyhow, thanks for the overview as it helped me fall off the deep end and finally purchase one for myself :)

Good video! Looks like the 110 is Ebony wood & the 112 is Dymondwood...you might consider flipping the position you put your knife in the sheath/pouch...it is easier to open when on your belt...pull with your right, open with your left....also, may I suggest you condition your sheaths? A little tlc will keep them soft & supple & looking good & will last a lifetime as a result...note the weight distribution of the 110...it is called the folding hunter as it's principal function was to skin, butcher & otherwise dress deer & other game...the end would nestle in the palm & would give the hunter more puchase while processing the animal...in any case, the Buck is an all-purpose knife, a tool with many uses...Buck came up with the 112 Ranger as a result of fights aboard the USS Ranger involving the 110...the Captain said that work knives had to be under 3 inches...When Buck heard that, they came up with the 112 so as not to lose market share - they were issued to the sailors & were also available for sale on-Base....

I prefer the 112 for a number of reasons. It's slightly thinner and lighter, bu most importantly it fits in my hand better. It also feels more balanced. The 112 Slim is better than either of them. It has thumb studs, a pocket clip and is significantly thinner and lighter than the traditional models. It's also orange, so I'm less likely to lose it.

Interesting perspective. These are classics and while most people here in rural California carry more modern folders you still see these all the time, particularly with older people and cowboys. What are your laws around fixed blades camping, hiking, fishing etc? If you’re engaged in an activity like that are you able to carry fixed blade knives?
@SlipjointSawyer

Yes, for camping, hunting etc you're allowed to carry one
