"Made in Japan" was a #1 hit for Buck Owens on the U.S. and Canadian country charts in 1971. In 1967, Buck and his Buckaroos toured Japan and released a live album from their tour. Nice request and reaction!

Thanks, Roy, for this request and to Don and Caroline for the reaction. I have been living in Japan since 1968, and in the 1970s I had the opportunity to catch one or two Buck Owens concerts. He visited Japan annually in the late '60s and through most of the '70s. I loved Bucks music and his performances back then. (Also got the chance to see John Denver and Charlie Pride back then.) Buck performed "Made in Japan" back then, of course. I thought that it was kind of funny as Tokyo Bay was a very polluted area back then and not exactly romantic. Also, strictly arranged marriages were no longer all that in style back then; but Japanese parents weren't too happy to see their daughters (or sons for that matter) marry non-Japanese. I did , however, marry a Japanese woman in January of 1971. We remained married for just short of fifty years, when she passed from diabetes complications.

I was a young teenager when I first heard Buck sing this song on his tv show, and today, 50 years later, was the first time I had heard it since then. Thanks for posting, as the song brought back great memories of those times.

What a great request Roy! Hadn't heard this one in eons and it's really great. It hit me differently now (maybe it's the headphones), I did really enjoy the unique instrumentation, and I absolutely love the lyric. And Buck is always great. Thanks Don and Caroline for the super reaction!

Good morning selection. Every time I hear Buck I keep remember him walking into the room at radio seminars or what not, and have a way of brightening the atmosphere (if that makes sense). This song was written by Bob & Faye Morris. Released in the spring of '72, it became Buck's last #1 hit, as a solo artist. Thanks Caroline & Don for the reaction. Remember Victoria Principal (Pam on Dallas) made in Japan

Oh I haven't heard this song in ages but it was on the first CD of Bucks I bought as a teenager, a greatest hits deal that made me a fan of his for life.

This is probably my 2nd favorite Buck Owens song, topped only by My Heart Skips a Beat.

This song came out at a time when it seemed that everything being sold in the USA was stamped 'Made in Japan', and his song was intended to point out that some good things came out of Japan. On the down side American had only recently come out of WW2 where a major enemy was Japan and so bitter anger stirred in the hearts of Americans who had lost relatives in the war.
