Buck vs. Spitz - The Call of the Wild (2020) 4K. 

The book was completely different than this movie. The book was literary - it's message was that we all have a wild animal in us that will surface under the right conditions. The movie eliminated most of the violence Buck experienced, including his time as a fighting dog, and violence in the sled team, which brought out Buck's wild nature. The movie had more of a feel good, embracing your true self message. I guess that the director thought that audiences wouldn't want to see the dog fighting scenes, which would have been hard to film ethically...

Spitz in the movie: spared Spitz in the book: 🌚

At 1st Buck was trying to throw Spitz off and deescalate the situation but once he realized Spitz was not going to stop that is when he realized that being passive was not an option.

I love the way buck fought back to spitz in the end

Buck was like, "If I want to, I can kill you right here, right now. Don't make me."

The paw on the throat, the direct eye contact with zero emotion. "Stay down, or never get back up, your choice."

the book version is so much intense, it showed battle for survival and dominance while here we have Spitz as a villain, I mean yes Spitz was a piece of shit of a dog in a book as well but his motive to be like that was to keep sled dogs in order, while Buck waited a moment to take away the leadership from him. You can actually feel the horror that comes to Spitz when starts to lose. While here we have classing good vs evil sort of regular fight, and Buck is like a dog that never even learned anything like a law of club and fang, if he could beat him so he could have beat him right after Curly's death or even better, save Curly. I dont like when movies oversimplify a character.

Buck chose true leadership while Spitz chose evil an selfishness ...

The white wolf in Balto is the angel this black wolf is the demon, unfortunately the moral has changed over the years

It kills me when Buck gets up, and the only thing that moves is Spitz's tail when he freezes in place! 😂

The beauty of this scene is that Buck could destroy Spitz from the get go, but he choose to be bullied out of sympathy. Buck understood Spitz was the leader of the pack and never meant to interfere, but the pack instinctively started following Buck, because he was a much better leader. Spitz became jalous and decided to intimidate, killing the rabbit, beating up and humiliating buck and he would probably have killed the old dog who stood up to, if Buck would have stayed down. Even after he delt with Spitz, buck showed mercy.. and gave him the chance to flee. That's how a leader is supposed to be. Buck earned respect by helping, not dominating.

It's sad how they made a movie for kids from a brutal and serious story.

A leader's true power is his compassion

I like Buck in this version. In the book, he deliberately caused Spitz's death.

The body language of Spitz is completely wrong. Spitz is supposed to be dominant and strong, yet the body language is that of a scared dog trying to defend itself from a bully.

In the book Spitz is all white and Buck is a Scottish shepherd Saint Bernard mix with a more wolf like appearance. And the battle was way more interesting and epic. Buck breaks both of Spitz’s hind legs but not before Spitz slashes Buck’s neck open. The book will always be better.

we arent gonna mention how: 1. the other dogs did not prepare to eat Buck or close in the circle 2. the Spitz and Buck were RKOing and supplexing each other, like these aren't 500 lb felines, these are dogs 3. Buck took one move and perfect condition Spitz was just done for 4. some random shiny wolf appeared and created some tacit inspiration: You can do better, Buck" "I can do better, wolf" stuff im gonna love the movie though

Part of me really wished Spitz stayed in the sled team, maybe learning that bullying and being an a-hole got him no where and learning some from Buck in being a follower instead of a leader. It could have still worked I think. Don't know, thoughts? I like this version don't get me wrong but I always thought: what if he stayed and shown a little improvement over **Spoiler** leaving and probably freezing in the wilderness.
