Why would you want water not oil for your Quenching???? I can’t believe that you now have me heat treating my piston’s!!! You old Wizard.... I love you....man!!!! Thanks for breakin the dang mold !!! You are just a breath of fresh air in this world Mr. Harvey!!!!
On the supercharger idea. Have a watch if some of "2 stoke stuffing" on RU-vid. He got his supercharged bike engine finished a few weeks back. Very similar idea. And some good information there too.
It certainly has been a wet summer, and the rain can stop any time, i'm sick of it! That saw sounds Great Harvey! Can't wait to see what you do with that supercharger.
Husvanana 394 love that saw what a beast. And Red light 660 WOW Iornhorse that is kool. Billy 371 kool build. That's got some compression. Keep up the good work Harvey And Colin. Thanks
Awesome video Iron Horse. You're letting us learn all the good stuff.I found a trick to lose wrist pin weight on the 371 I'm doing.I took a pin from a 462 Stihl ,its a taper wall wrist pin and it is the same diameter as the stock pin. And is about 3.2 grams lighter, only issue is it's .042 shorter so I'm thinking nylon or aluminum spacers to take up the extra .042.
Damn that saw has some compression that reminds me of starting the old 051AVE my dad has bought it brand new 3 decades ago. You're cat isn't scared of anything.
Them old 670's are pretty good lake racers that's for sure. My dad had a Formula Z 583 and boy was it a tank but she ripped right up and down the fields.
Thanks Harv! I’d been hanging for this vid and the anticipation was building. It was with a buzz of excitement that I saw it pop up when I woke this morning. Love the info and the way you deliver it. Thanks mate.
This rain can really go...lol..been a summer to forget..ticks or mosquitos eat us alive while logging..we know this channel is a 2 man band..we love you too Cullen..someones gotta keep the old man in check...
Wow! Professor Harvey strikes again. That 371 sounds angry! Looking forward to Buckin's reaction... also. That 394 is sweet! Thanks for the info and great videos 💪
I have an old 066 magnum and it’s the only saw I every owned that would break a chain because it has so much torque. I’m in the process of getting parts for it because the crank broke.
Love your videos harve .they are very good and informative. Please keep them coming and thank you for posting them. Regards from Ireland Patrick Brazil.
Beautiful build series on this monster ! Next upgrade kevlar winch line for the rip cord ? Haha ! Not just anybody can haul over a 454 on the rip cord no sir… gotta be all built up in the chest and arms yessir :)
In a piston ported engine do you cut some off the bottom skirt on the piston to change the port timing when the intake port opens up? I lower the intake port and raise the exhaust port.
Harv I am so flippin excited you are going to do a 066 Red Eye, I have one myself i'm trying to restore with OEM parts. I runs like a banshee, just needs a facelift.
We're on the opposite side of the graph here on the left coast, no rain and likely I got half my firewood orders cut in spring. Harvey...... . .. .you're speakin my type-uh French with the red-light 066!! When I was just a young pain in the ass thise are the saws my dad and uncle ran cuttin timber on the oregon coast, and they're still in the family and both still cut wood every fall. My uncle's 066 3 years ago was popped in half and got new seals and all but the 066 my dad sold to the oldest brother is still 100% original and both still have the factory mounts! Those two saws are one of few things that symbolize "my family" for me. They're big, ornery, and stubborn just like the owners and flat mean when they got a mind for it lol
Wish I could learn in person from you, always so interesting. Just picked up a 394 with a 42 inch bar. Probably switching it out for a 32 Wish we could get some rain around here.
I just replaced the piston in my ported 350. I removed the hyway piston because the pin was getting pushed right into the aluminum. I put an oem piston back in because it was harder aluminum. Heavier, but harder.
I have to say if one cylinder on a saw isn't enough for that supercharger maybe two would. 😆 Sorry for not commenting lately been busy chopping corn silage and the main chopper broke. We were having a hard time finding the parts for it but luckily my brother remembered there was an older version of that chopper was for sale so yes l bought a whole SP forage harvester for only two parts. Hopefully I can get a machinist to repair the bad parts and I have two good choppers eventually. For some good news I got the Same Panther 90 split between 2nd and 3rd cutting. The clutch is done but I am waiting for the flywheel to be machined.
Love the Heck out of you Harv!!! The Family too! Sometimes we just get the “Boots!”... this whole Covid shit has been a rough dang struggle... I’ve never been sick so much and so many times in my entire life!!!! Shits breakin and as soon as you get that back going then bang it’s something else!!! You still are trying to do everything that you can for other folks and everything that you own is having attitude problem’s!!!! We are still breathing brother and until Jesus takes us home then I’ll say my thanks when he wakes me up in the morning and I’ll grab my boots and I’ll just start beating back the wolves!!! Just keep making forward process!!!!
A can't wait for buckin to see this bad boy.. he had one of ur saw's u made him in his last video and the 500i. Ur one looked stronger and faster. And sounded bad ass
The hole you mentioned drilled in the piston in the PTO side, is that to the side of the exhaust port if there is room after the ports been widened or is it exposed as the piston passes the the port? Cool on the roots blower, I had one the same size and it was a smog pump of a Porsche. People put them on bikes to run on the salt with 20psi boost. I sold it to a guy that was going to supercharger a 750cc flathead from the 40s. Enjoy the video, cheers from the UK
Harv? Whats the reason for not just using a decomp valve? I must have missed the reason for that..Even tho i'm a stihl guy those 372s are flat one of the best saws I have ever run.
Looks like a beast! Buckin' will love it. I appreciate the wisdom on octane. I run 100LL in all my saws (and generators, log splitter, etc.). Not because of the octane, but because it "never" goes bad. Should I stop that practice in my ported saws, and find 87-90 non-ethanol instead?
One nice thing with the 100LL, water wont mix with it so its easy to tell is there's ever water in the fuel. Water in fuel causes corrosion in the parts we dont want corrosion, such as brass (Carb Jets)
There I was thumpping threw Efingham NH today buy the air port full of gasser plaine. We get ethenal freee 110 from the privet air ports up at the lakes region in NH. Bet walker know who has it for Buken. It is a good day when I can get to a full on laff and craked up when you pulled out the blower. Yee haw.
A cast piston has a higher silicon content last longer than forged stays closer to size at a wider heat range. But forged are lot stronger but grows more in size with heat , so forged install couple thousands loose then run warm up to fit under load. High pressure increase ring gap. With power adders. Rings will grow faster than cylinder bore and seize the rings ruin ring lands.
Charger looks like a Eaton m45? If it is used to have one in one of my 4 door Honda civics years ago. Total sleeper status 😂 great video harv! Hope all is well
Snowmobile with a supercharger works great i used a German made vw jetty supercharger from 90s on a 550zl it screemed the best one was my 650 rxl I put my motec standalone on and made my own injection and ignition using msd parts the turbo was a old turbo I pulled off a Honda turbonetics brand t3 series it works well keep the pipe from factory you won't belive the fuel table and timing when it gets right that sled rippppppppppps
Would it be possible to modify the recoil or adapt one from a larger saw with a bigger pulley thereby giving a bit more leverage or put a Stihl elasto start handle on it (the 372 )?
By drilling the small hole in the piston is it possible it could rob oil from your main bearings at high rpms? What size drill hole is best to use? Mark.
Hello Harvey I got a little problem with my 562 xpx torque I haven't run it for 15 minutes and debris from the muffler was sucked into the combustion chamber I was wondering is this a common problem it was rust I know it was because I found a little piece now that my cylinder is scored is it safe to hone and use the same cylinder with a new pipe I'll make my own pipe I have a MIG welder the head is
@@theironhorse6600 thank you sir! I own an automotive technician shop here in illinois. I have built hot rods and have lots a husky and stihl chainsaws and looking to start building some hot saws! My whole family was loggers and i took the mechanic side anyway enjoy your videos alot and appreciate all your knowledge!
Everything is stock except for the muffler I shook it and I could hear rust rattling around on the inside I wanted to put a BarkBox on it but instead I think I'm going to put a pipe on it the debris was sucked back in through the transfers and cause scoring on the cylinder wall and piston it stuck the ring inside the ring landing no compression really scary I just rebuilt it twice I don't know what I did wrong so this time around I took a hone for a small cylinder bores and cleaned it up I took my small file set cleaned up the ring landing and the underskirt of the piston just to make sure that it would complete its intake and exhaust cycle it run fine without the exhaust on it and then I put the muffler on and wouldn't you know it 10 minutes later it chewed the Piston again no more muffler for me straight pipe all the way maybe a little bit of a baffle but not much any tips thank you your friend Mark Molina Flint Michigan 48504
You know that thing is a bear to pull. Harv has been starting chainsaws for a long time. He has a honed technique and he is strong. The average guy would have to step in the handle and pull with two hands. Lol
i'm needing a muffler for my 394 and you make the sweetest mufflers around. you up for building one for me or is there anywhere where I can just request it online?
What have you created you evil genius Doctor evil of the chainsaw relm !!!!! Wuff that made my heart skip a couple beets !!! Gotta get one up to ya ! Hey you going to Bunyan?
Friends, When you have someone talking with as much experience as Iron Horse, listen. That being said, when you have electricity problems please get to the root of the problem, start with the utility company- you are already paying them monthly(free repair if you can motivate them); have them freshen up overhead connections and tighten lugs behind the meter. If the problem persists; call an electrician. Please, open neutral issues need to be corrected. Thank you, Kenny P.S. Iron Horse is describing open neutral symptoms.
