Love this Klezmer music, especially when the clarinet leads. The music is so emotional, it feels like the music is telling a haunting story. It sounds so sad, the Jewish history is very sad, for years and all over the world they've been persecuted. They are a strong people and I wish them safe and happy times for the future.. Shalom.

@@Baruch-q4n Thankyou for your words. I worked in Krakow from 1998 -2000 and visited the Jewish quarter of Kazimierz many times and listened to live Klezme music and tasted traditional polish foods with a Jewish twist. I was astounded at the numbers of houses and properties obviously left vacant for many years. I was told these were owned by Jewish residents sent to the Krokow ghetto and then off to a concentration camp and never heard of again. Years later relatives suffered added insult to their devastating loss unable to even gain admission to these houses to recover family possessions as they had no proof of ownership. They remained abandoned for 55 years, some demolished due to unsafe condition. I also visited Auschwitz on a number of occasions with visitors of mine, I can't begin to describe how heart breaking that experience had on me. God Bless you and yours my online friend

What is the name of this Band? Jewish or not they are very good....hey Klezmer is now just another form of World Music! I think it is great....when we were kids we thought this music was depressing and reminded us of our grandparents suffering etc...and sounded soooo old fashioned...(as we memorized Beatle songs etc.).... but now it is gaining an audience and a new form. Great!

@rolleicanon
@rolleicanon 9 лет назад
pingomatic11 Klezmer contains many strands of music from Eastern and Central Europe, as well as lots of traditional and modern Jewish religious music. So it has a lot in common with traditional popular music of Romania, Hungary, Poland, Turkey, Russia, and so on. Oh, and I should also mention gypsy music, with which it has much in common, though is distinct from it. Christian music is also related to Jewish music, if you go back far enough.
@rolleicanon
@rolleicanon 9 лет назад
pingomatic11 Lots of klezmer artists are not Jewish. I used to play in Klezmer de l'Isle de France (around Paris), and there is absolutely no religious selection involved, anybody who loves the music can join. It is quite normal for a band member to arrive late for a Sunday rehearsal because she has been playing organ at a local mass, for example. Music brings people together.

Életem egyik elfelejthetetlen estéje volt. Ez lehetett 1992 be. Fájó szívvel vissza emlékszem mert ez mar minden a múltban van. De a zenétek vissza hozta a szép emléket is. Ha, lots of people in Europe are finding out they have Jewish roots. Especially after the Holocaust many were not told that they were in fact Jews. Loads in Poland, Ukraine, Germany but also a lot in Spain and Portugal. PS I'm not saying you are an ethnic Jew but the name Vasquez is apparently, a common Sephardic name! www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/vasquez/311/ The Sephardic Jews were from Spain and Portugal and Holland to some extent (but those would have originated in the Iberian peninsula).

Maybe that's because Klezmer and Gypsy sometimes mix and they have the same kind of buoyant yet sad feeling. Maybe you are Jewish and gypsy? lol. I would be Jewish if it was my mother was Jewish, but she was Hungarian, with talk of Grandpa being part Gypsy, just talk. From stories I have told my grown son, he said I was a "drifter" (traveler) because I rarely stayed in one place for more than a few days or months or years. So maybe Grandpa's genes skipped a generation and yours skipped even more. Interesting musings, eh?
