Back in the '60s/early '70s, New York Central's Harlem Division used these Rail Diesel Cars in southeastern New York's Hudson Valley commuter service for some of the trains. Sometimes they were in pairs or triplets. This time period was just before / around the infamous Penn Central years and waning usage of and attention to passenger service regionally and nationally in the USA. Since 1983 the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Metro North Railroad has provided commuter service via third-rail electric together with Pullman (now retired), Budd and Bombardier multiple units (MUs). Quite interestingly, according to WikiPedia, some of the Budd RDCs remained in service on Metro North into 1991.
