Buddhist practice isn't confined to a daily practice or going to the temple. There are "Observance Days" in numerous traditions where lay-Buddhists engage in practices that align themselves more with the monastic lifestyle and advance their development. This includes taking the Eight Precepts, vegetarian meals, or even fasting. Learn why Buddhists engage in Observance Days and what it means!

Just found you on #Spotify. Came here, but can't stay long as commercials are longer than bhuddist practice. Thank you for being public for all 🙏Namaste'

The weekends are the only time I can get out for longer hikes. Would there be any issues with still getting some exercise on observance days?

I don’t believe it would be an issue. You could also easily incorporate Buddhist practice with hikes. For example, Pure Land practice Buddhists might take this as an opportunity to recite the name of Amitabha Buddha. Or, you could incorporate walking meditation.

@@AlanPeto I am coming from a Theravada perspective, so five subjects for frequent recollection, Metta and as you mentioned, walking meditation. Thank you very much!
