This event drew a then-record 5,000+ to the old Memorial Coliseum. I actually live in Corpus Christi--Hell, I have never experienced an event at the old Coliseum before its recent demolition--but this...the crowd was nuts. And to hear Marv Albert call this fight: priceless.
@MavsFan1982 Yup. I was there too. A Lot of pissed off Warren fans because many, including myself, felt that Duva's idea of changing Warrens fight strategy backfired. In their first fight, Warren was fighting his typical brawling style that won him the fight. Here, Duva chose to have Warren try his hand at boxing and flicking the jab, which worked perfectly into McGirts hands. Bummer. Bobby Garza, Warren's original trainer in the corner of Warren also complained about the change in strategy.
@david rodreguez Buddy did not knock down Whitaker in the first fight all though it was a close fight, he did knock him down in the second fight but other than the knock down he was whooped bad. With one arm he fared better than with two a year and a half later, he was not the same fighter anymore by then and Sweet Pea stuck it to him good
