Maria Elena is so beautiful in her wedding pictures and has such beautiful smile. I can see why Buddy was in a hurry to marry her. I feel sad that not only was he was taken as his career was just beginning, but also as a newly wed, little did they know that their time together would be cut short. That the lifetime memories they planned to make together would be reduced to precious hours. What a horrible shame. Alot to many was lost, but I cant even imagine Maria Elena's grief! She must have been totally devastated, destroyed. I dont know how she made through this horrible tragedy! Maria Elena, you must be one very strong woman! I felt a very strong presence of Buddy around her as she talked. If there Is an afterlife where we can visit our loved ones, I feel Buddy spends alot of time between Maria Elena and his older brother. Thank you Maria Elena for doing this interview because, you see, when Buddy left us I was only 5 years old, but I knew who Buddy Holly was! He was my favorite rock&roller on the radio! And Maria Elena, you are such a nice and kind woman! Dont ever change! Thank You!

The Rose, and thinking about the beautiful song he wrote for her True Love Ways brought a tear to my eye

It was a time of Innocence. Things were so simple then. You met somebody - you liked them - then love - and then marriage. It is so so sad that she didn't get the chance to grow old with him. Seeing that Rose that she kept was really a heartbreaking moment. I can't believe she kept it all these years. Blessings to you Maria Elena.

I sat next to maria 1979 on branif air lines flight dallas fortworth to heathrow London, this women had been in a relationship with one of the most monumental people in musical history of the world buddy holly, an actual gem.

Amazing! I loved this so much. Listening to Maria Elena's story brought me back in time! This is such a precious story and Maria Elena comes across as such a good person! In some way I feel Buddy really looked after her and gave her a good life even if he could not be there with her.

Back 1978 I when school in Hampton,Iowa and back Minnesota one year later from 1980-1983 in Forest City ,Iowa graduated high school. Kind funny why no one told me about past. But learn on my own. Since my friends want me listen rock n Roll music , was Country girl, guess most country music songs went from country music to pop love songs cross over on charts that key fit in my friends. I never know about film movie Buddy Holly Story until video pick up yard sale. That got learn music and much more. My mom born in Iowa back then. On farm in Iowa. That learn rock n Roll music from her. So glad got see inside Surf Ballroom, like dream come true. Back 2015. I know Buddy Holly music live on forever and ever in are hearts. I even got few my favorite bands play there. Too me like dream come true, always enjoy Buddy Holly music. Still buy cds and DVD and cassette tape.
