Buddy Rich is pure precision, speed and aggression. Gene Krupa is smooth, classy and melodious. And the legendary Sammy Davis is all of this--the consummate entertainer who can sing, dance, everything. And all of this is pure joy.

Very true, considering he never practiced, he just sat down & got up when he was happy with his work & he played great took great charge of his orchestra. On here you see him off his drums going from musician to musician, keeping the orchestra swinging. A natural.

I was born in 1953. Over the last 20 yrs. realized what a fabulous singer, entertainer, actor Sammy Davis Jr. was ... his life in the end was heart breaking but gave it his all! I've heard Buddy Rich & Gene Krupa over the years but have never seen such an incredible Duo complimenting each other on the drums along with the one of the greatest entertainers Sammy Davis Jr. ... this Video puts a smile and a "spring" in your step! **May God Bless & rest their Souls**

Buddy Rich was like a creature from another planet? he had otherworldly speed blazing blinding speed and flash. But Although Gene could not match his speed. Which I’m sure they were both doing plenty of. There is some thing about Gene Krupa he was melodic a joy to listen to he played from his heart and soul I loved it. Where at times buddy was like a robot just blazing away.Gene could swing man could he swing!

Man o' man, what a collection of talent! Sammy is one of the most extraordinary people to ever grace show business: an fine actor, wonderful musician, professional comedian and great dancer. Gene, ever the showman and innovator, and a wonderful drummer to boot, brought the drums into the modern era by bringing the kit from a background pace keeping instrument to a featured component of the big band. Buddy is flat out the most talented drummer of the 20th century. His timing, technical prowess, speed and ability to lead a top notch big band are and will forever be nonpareil.

The first time I saw Buddy Rich was in 1954 at the old Trianon ballroom in Seattle. He was playing with Harry James at the time .. I was standing right at the bandstand and could not believe his uncanny performance. The next time was with Jazz at The Philharmonic that fall. The other drummer was none other than Gene Krupa with the JAYP that evening. I followed Buddy all the way up to his death. I have many LPs, CDs and DVDs. He still remains to be the greatest drummer of all time. There are many good drummers but he still stands at the top.

Yes there is incredible talent in drumming today like you wouldnt believe, however the swing, excitement and tightness that those legends achieved still cant quite be matched imo but they were focused on only a few styles of playing and were masters at them whereas todays pro drummers cover a lot more genres and have to be expert at all of them, including double kick etc so there is a bit of trade off but on a technical level todays drummers are on a completely different level than the past but that is taking nothing away from the drummers of the past.

My high school band brought Buddy Rich to town in the early 70’s. His band was set up in the high school gym, and I was fortunate enough to sit on the floor a few feet in front of his bass drum. For those of you who think Mr.Rich was unimaginative, repetitious with his fills? and nothing but fast, I fear that you have truly missed the boat. Neil Peart (RIP), arguably the most accomplished and influential rock drummer of the past 40 years, played Buddy's music with the Buddy Rich Band twice at memorial celebrations at the request of Buddy's daughter-who loved Neil's playing and spoke of her dad's respect and admiration for Neil-stated that trying to learn and then play Buddy's part in his band's music was the single most difficult thing he had tried to do as a musician. Not only was the style of music foreign to Neil but Buddy's exceedingly nuanced tempo and technique were mind boggling. Much to Neil's credit, he took on that most difficult challenge and played wonderfully. When Mr. Peart complements you in an almost reverential manner, you know you are special. And Buddy was indeed special, uniquely so. Here is Buddy playing with a small jazz band in the late 50s. If these "fills" are repetitious and his playing nothing but pure speed, then the world is certainly missing something: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sPdj75sqeQs.html
