@@christopher480 Well you need to be self sufficient. Water purifiers, water coolers, cooking pots and pans, cleaning stuff, fire starter, hammer, nails, shovels, rakes,, planting seeds, rain gear, shopping carts, knives, water containers, 3 years of food, sleeping gear, tools for cutting and chopping, rope, self defense tools plus ammo, first aid, tons of soap, shaving gear, portable generators, washing detergent, clothes, extra shoes, books and ect. Make sure any GPS tracking stuff is disabled aka break your cell phone and remove all GPS from your off road vehicle, I personally have an electric chainsaw to cut down trees in my path which I can charge on my Jackery which has solar panels to charge those batteries. I also have solo powered lamps and lighting. A large print KJV Bible and go practice and see what you need and what works....

I have had 5 of those lanterns for over 25 yrs. Just before we had the huge ice storm in Texas I got them out. Cleaned them up and replaced a couple of wicks. I bought fresh lantern oil. I used all of the lanterns during the 7 day power failure. It was such a comfort to have one in each room.

Great video. You forgot to mention that the Stanley Cook Pot's lid also fits the field cup/mug. I don't buy the dehydrated foods, too expensive, but I do buy the chicken/tuna pouches and the Knorr sides to make my own meals. Thanks for sharing.

another good item are "Dude Wipes" Find them in the toilet paper aisle. Designed for men, unscented. (Just regular wipes, though). Come in a pack or a box of individual packs, like Wet Ones. I have used these to wash with, or to travel. I keep some on me at all times in the little packs. Went into a Walmart bathroom and didn't realize no toilet paper. Used a couple of the packs that I kept in my edc pocket kit. These are amazing.

They had a great ozark trail stainless deep plates, cups, silverware sets that they clearanced a couple yrs ago. I got them at 2 bucks a set. I couldn't find them after a week or 2 was gonna throw a few kits together with them for gifts. I use them stakes with my dd tarps. That cup is great just mark with a dremel and it nests on the bottom of the stanley pot. Then I wrap it all in a reflectix coozy with a fish mouth spreader and some bandanas. Them wannabe moras in the fishing section are decent enough to through one in every vehicle, tackle box, pack, and for 2 bucks each hard to beat. That lil tarp has lived in my truck for years. It has come in handy at work, I think I gave 5 bucks for it. I've had them lanterns for 20+ yrs, they will wear out but when I used to buy em for 3-4 bucks it wasn't a big deal.

I LOVE the 5x7 blue tarp. I've found I can add a 42 gallon contractor bag (Ground cloth) and an SOL 2 person Mylar E-blanket (Blanket) and even a bit of bankline for a complete shelter kit that all fits in the mesh tarp carry bag. It gives me something to sleep under, sleep on and sleep in and even cordage to set it up. 😉

One thing no one mentions is with the double-walled container. Is if in an emergency you need to use it to boil water in you can make a hole in the outside layer and it will be fine to boil water in.

Always remember that the double wall bottles (vacuum sealed ). If you poke a hole through the first layer, you can use over a fire. Be sure you put a hole in the outside wall then its safe for fire use.

Good stuff. Don't forget 550 cord or bank line. Also Gorilla Tape, Bic lighters, fire starters including manufactured fatwood, Mountain House meals, and so much more. I would go with a regular tarp versus that 5x7 for the money but my local store has the thicker tarps with mylar side as well. So many options.

Some of their stuff is ok . Wish they carried a 32 oz single walled cup or bottle. Have the metal spork more for being able to sterilize it in the coals if needed. Have two of the lanterns. They’ve been through hurricanes and regular power outages. Spent the extra $ and get the red lamp oil. Good video. Have a good one

The water container with spout would be nice for my backyard camp. I wouldn't take it on deep woods trip (too heavy for me with my health issue). For deep woods trips I have a compact water filter pump. It's the Katadyn Vario. I also have a simple _Life Straw._

I can vouch for the Blue 7 gallon water container. Its a decent buy and very functional and durable if it aint out in the sun. I have a couple that I use for aquarium water storage for water changes and I have several that are filled with water for power outages and other emergency issues. The oil lamp is decent enough too but I prefer the all glass one that are usually sold in the candle area of the store. The double walled water containers are well worth the price. I very much prefer the standard tarps over the one in the video and they are cheap enough and light enough I have several.

I agree. We lived in a camper in Oregon(travelled from CT) last summer for a few months. That jug was our lifeline. Awesome video... a sensible approach to affordable camping / bushcraft. Recently I found a great folding saw at Harbor Freight. !5" overall with a blade length of 7", pretty light weight, locking blade, lanyard hole , and cuts on the pull stroke all for 7 dollars. Tarp prices are good as well. Just like Wal mart, Harbor Freight has some really good deals as well...worth a look, we need more videos like yours, Thanks.

I have a few packs myself. Got one about 20 years ago, another probably about 10 years ago and a couple in the past 3 years. My old one has quite a bit of weight by itself. Got it when packs that size were a bit heavy in our stores. has multiple pockets. I have one that actually a water bladder pack, but I use it as a real small back pack if I just want to take a few things to my camp in the backyard woods. I have a regular size pack, like the size for high school packs. It is camouflage. Has a few pockets on outside with a mesh bottle holder pocket on each side. I have a big camouflage pack for a bigger loadout to go dep in the woods for a night of more. has front pockets and a tall narrow pocket on each side and a pocket inside at the top and the separator pocket at bottom inside, plus a couple of small pockets on belt straps. I also have a nice camping fanny pack Main compartment with separator inside, 2 pockets on front, mesh bottle holder pocket on each side and a couple of small pockets on belt straps. Right now I'm going on trips. Just going to my camp in the backyard forest for now. For that I just use my regular size camouflage pack.

One other Walmart item I use in all my packs is in the kitchen department . You can purchase a three or four pack of thin plastic cutting boards for a few bucks. Cut them to fit just like you did the foam pad. Slide it in place with the foam pad. Now you have a pack stiffener which also protects you from pointed or hard objects. Once in camp you have a cutting board for food prep.

As far as knives go, they sell a Camillius knife over by the hatchets and machetes for $10 that seems to be too good to be true, holds its edge well enough, throws a huge spark off a ferro rod, sheath leaves a little to be desired, but still. Also they have an $18 Ozark Trail copy of a Buck Reaper, that seems decent as well, the sheath for that is almost amazing lol.

Good and honest video. Congrats :D In MY opinion: - UCO container & matches: very good - Spork: I hate that lol. But UCO is a good brand - Foldable cup: I prefer aluminum so I can use it over the fire. - Plastic plate: Never used that one. I use the MSR one - Tent stakes: those small ones don't work well in the forest, make them yourself with a branch. - Stainless steel cup: I have the GSI one and it's Amazing! - Stanley pot: Never had one, but heard good things about it. I prefer a pot with a bail. Cups are useless. The split ring trick is GENIUS! Flask: LOL, always a fun item. Camilus "big bread knife": I prefer a Kukri style chopping knife. Tarp: 5x7 is small :( Coghlan's tissue: OK... Ozark trail water bottle: "Ozark Trail" is the home brand of Wlmrt nd it's cheap. Headlamp: Never found a tree with a USB plug to recharge devices. I prefer the PETZL ones you can use with either batteries or rechargeable batteries. Hiking pole: No opinion on that brand. The Lantern: They're fun to have! Get the smokeless oil. :) Backpack: Ozark? hmmmmm Insulation pad: always nice to have. You can also the flooring for kids' rooms. BIG water container: Good if you have a big group and/or long stay. Again, great job with the video!

Some great gear. I know people often get put off the outdoors due to gear cost. They see RU-vidrs and reviewers with gear that costs a fortune and think that it's too expensive for them. Guys talking about knife super steels and how crap a often very decent knife is cause it's made from 420HC etc. I have the Gerber Strongarm and that thing has taken abuse that some of my higher end knives probably wouldn't survive. It's good to see gear that's decent and at good prices.

Walmarts can differ wildly. US ones have much more items than Canadian ones. UCO is a quality product no matter who sells it, so it is not really "budget" aka cheap department store brands. When you compare MSR stakes to yours, they may look the same but the quality if different. However, their $20 camo or black rain gear seems pretty decent and on par with what is passed off as ultralight hiking rain gear (compared to heavy duty but quality rain gear like Gore-tex).

I use the stainless steel cups. I have a smaller one and a _big_ one that was bought as a coffee press cup (stainless steel), but I only used the press a few times, then just used the cup as a _BIG_ cup. I also do have a camp pot (I think Titanium) which, like my small and _big_ cup have the handles that fold in against the wall of the cup/pot. I even use my camp pot at home to cook canned food and other foods in. I also cook on my camp butane stove in home. Sometimes I'll use my mini burner on butane canister instead. I do use power sometimes at home though. reheat cold food with microwave or electric oven for food cooked that way, but I rarely make food cooked in oven. Most my food at home is just prepped like sandwich, salad, etc or is cooked in a pot.

I just bought two for less than $10 off eBay, one to go in my truck bag and one in my get home bag. You could cook one egg in it and it is a bit deep dish so you might fit 2 small eggs in to fill to the top. it has a handle that fold in against the bottom of the pan. The downside of my pot is that it has a pouring spout so there's that small opening when the top is on.

I use Silky folding saws. I started with cheaper makes from the stores here and Silky is _alot_ better. I have a 7" blade and 14" blade folding saw from Silky. They are awesome! I have 3 sizes of knives. My Morakniv Companion for small jobs. A Schrade SCHF37 (7" blade) for my belt to do bigger jobs and I have my Schrade SCHF45 (10" blade) for even bigger jobs. That one has a fair amount of weight to it too. It's my replacement of a hatchet/axe. I has a solid plastic sheath I'll put on a belt around my shoulder if I'm gonna carry it a ways in the woods. or I'll put it in the pack (handle down to avoid ripping a hole in bottom of pack).

I live in the city. The Walmart near me is in the ghetto. Their camping selection is crap.

Love your videos and your way of breaking things down. I however noticed that you pronounce Coghlans as Cooglans. I believe it’s pronounced Coglans. Not trying to be rude but I’ve noticed other people pronounce it like you on other videos. I did look up how to pronounce so that I’m not sticking my foot in my mouth. If you know for sure that you’re pronouncing right then please correct me. Anyway, keep putting out great videos, love them. 👍

Disagreement over the knife, that knife is a pos. Strongly agree with the Stanley cup set, I have the same kit with gas and stove inside every pack I own.
