Budget Cyclocross To Super Gravel Bike Build 

Yeah, it takes such a long time for me to do it on because I can only do it in the evenings and on the weekends and only if it’s good weather. Then it takes forever to get all the parts together. Hopefully one day I’ll have somewhere indoors to make them though

Ah does compressionless brake housing make a big difference? Truth be told we hadn’t broken in the brakes at the time of recording because we didn’t have the right spacers for the callipers 😬 They’re all good now though

@@TheSlowworms yeah, compressionless housing makes a big difference. Obviously not as good as hydraulic but significantly better. I neglected to say it before but this was a great video and I enjoyed it. Keep up the great work.

Ah thanks! You don’t see the need to change 700c to 650b in general or don’t see why we did it? Yeah, it looks a bit more spaced out when you see the final shot of the whole bike

@@TheSlowworms a) for this type of budget I don't see the need, and b) just because the old wheels had a rim brake surface. Sure, you probably save some weight. but the whole frame is already heavy enough, and the groupset too. My interpretation is that it's mostly a cosmetic reason on your part.

The main reason he wanted to change them was because he intends to regularly use it on unpaved surfaces and he wanted greater comfort. With the previous tyre change he went to 35c but he wanted even bigger tyres. We worked it out and he couldn’t have gone much bigger than 35c. Certainly not 47c. We thought we may as well try a 650b conversion because it’s pretty common and we heard a few people rave about it. No, he didn’t like the rim brake rims but that’s not the primary reason for him changing them. It is pretty odd having rim brake rims on a disc brake hub. To be honest, they probably aren’t any lighter but I don’t think he’s worried.

What makes you think that?

There’s always fads in cycling. This is just one of the current ones. I think they’ll be a few more bikes yet before we run out of ideas. Especially with electric bikes suddenly being very popular.
