This blog post has been a long time coming. I've watched Pastors at my church stand on stage week in week out and kept thinking I really should review one of those mics. Now the ones they use are custom made but I found this budget one on Amazon and was keen to give it a go.

I like the mic that fits around the face for making the appearance in videos as discreet as possible. Thanks for the comparison review.

Adrien, the fact that you haven't disclosed what mic you actually tested here is a worry. It makes this whole 'test' seem very click-baitey. I watched it twice, thinking I missed it the first time...until I realised what you did. I'm hearing more and more affiliate sizzle, Adrien. But, I'm seeing very little Salisbury steak.

Doesn't sound terrible. The closer to your mouth, the more exaggerated the esses sounds. The further back you went helped quite a bit, but I'd still use a de-esser for sure.

First of all, I don't know how come this video has such few views and likes. I hope it gets more soon. The video is very good! When you first put this mic on after the lavalier the first impression was "oh God" but as you then said, it's probably that the lavalier one didn't sound crispy at all. Now this one sounds just a bit too crispy and you're right, those Ss sound a bit like Sh. I wounder if the foam (wind filter) would help on that, pity you didn't try to see if it did. But I think is a very good solution, it's super discreet and I really like how news anchors and other TV presenters use this kind of microphones and you can barely see them. I just looked in Amazon UK and now it even sells for 7 pounds! As you said, for that price it's worth to try it. Since my comment is a year and a half after this was posted, have you found other such microphones or have would you have additional comments to your review?

Interesting. Thanks for the review. The reason I ran here is that I just ordered for one but wasn't sure if I'd made a good investment. I think the sound quality suffices for me coz all I need is to be heard well and nicely. I leave those other intricate details for sound engineers to worry about 😜

If you plug this directly into the microphone input in a computer, will it work? Obviously, I'm referring to the ones with minijack plugs.

I bought a similar mic from Amazon. The size was not adjustable and it did not even come close to fitting my head. ...I do have a large head; but, the non-adjustability seems to be a problem.
