You are right, only $649 more? It's a steal to get the Hobie Outback with everything that it has more. The Topwater 120 PDL is a nice kayak, but it's not the Outback. Outback is lighter overall, better pedal system, better and more adjustable seat, better and more tracks for your gear, better center hatch, easier to transport (why don't you ever mention the Hobie cart system which is amazing,) better rudder system that hides out of the way, power pole ready, doesn't have 11 scuppers (why that many? yikes.) I guess if you really need to transport more than 425 pounds, then the Topwater. I t;s kinda like you could get a Honda Ridgeline or a Dodge Ram :-)

Alex I love your videos. One thing that you missed. Outback has drive cassette and currently old town does not make a blank drive plug for top water pdl drives. For folks who want to float a Creek or small shallow lake this is a big deal.

Iv`e tried both drives in the kayaks and with bad knees I`ll stick with the paddle . That way I don`t have to replace any parts on the drives . If they wear out or get damaged

I think bang for buck, old town all day long. I demoed both extensively. Ended with the 106 pdl. I did like the Hobie's ability to cut through the water better and a little better on paddling, but wasn't enough to make me get it. And if old towns motor for the predator mk doesn't fit already, I'm sure they'll create one soon enough.

Why in the hell would anyone pay $3000 for a kayak... You could buy a bonafide Rs117 a $1000 kayak, add a bixby motor to it and only spend $2000....wtf... I'm sorry, I don't get it.... No peddles to get in your way, steer with your feet...

Love your videos...man! I want to buy a pedal drive kayak, because I am a stroke survivor and have weakness on my left side. A pedal drive kayak would be a better choice for me. Will the PDL drive pop up if it runs around? I really like the Coosa FD but the price...not good, Jackson wants all of your money. I also looked at the catch 130 HD but NO reverse. Great reviews.

If you’re looking for value. The lightning Kayak probably better than old town. Probably more comparable. The compass is probably just below those. Just depends on what type of drive system you like. But the outback is much better. It’s something you’re going to sit in all day so get what feels best to you.

It's a bummer none of the pdl models have a center hatch. That is my favorite feature of the Hobies. I use it constantly. I have owned Old Town kayaks and have always been impressed with how finished and thought out everything else was. definitely the best front and rear hatches around.

Being a texas marsh fisherman (average of 9 inches of water), the mirage pedal system is superior because you can flutter and ride very shallow which is perfect for me. Nonetheless, oldtown has an amazing kayak.

@@AliexFolgueira not very fast, but when it is that shallow, i typically move slower (even when i used to paddle my old kayak) because i looks for redfish feeding or kicking up a wake.

Aliex You are invited on a trip with and to the following. Your area off shore 1 day , Moiquito lagoon 1 day then to Tampa fish Marty Z's back yard 2 days, then on up to Pensacola off shore 2 days. Then over to Ty's (30 miles out)Texas location for two days . Then to Chads (KBF) to fish a river and a pond. You can take one Kayak. Choices are Top water 120 PDL, Predator PDL, Hobie outback or Compass with 180 drive. Which Yak are you putting in your truck? Sound like a good trip see them at ICAST. Thank you

I was strongly considering buying a 2020 Predator, but the Topwater 120 is the better kayak in my opinion - especially in terms of stability. But the seat looks CHEAP. Are both seats the same size/dimensions? If so, do uou know if Old Town offers an upgrade to the better seat at an additional cost? Keep up the great videos!

In the surf launch depends on where the brakers are braking but it is recommended to leave the rear latch released on the prop drive so if you get smacked down in the sand it does not brake that latch. if you have the hobie drive in it make get damaged. If you plan to drop the Mirage drive in later keep in mind it does not float if you get flipped

How would you compare the new outback to the older models? I bought a 2013 outback this year for half the price of a new one and already got my money's worth out of it. It doesn't have a good seat but it's super stable and fast enough.

Brother as long as you are happy with it that’s all that matters. The new one is way better of course but way more money in the end is it better to drive a $600 a month 2022 ram 1500 or a paid off 2013 in good shape ?? You tell me

Aliex , for a Really bad back , which one is better the PDL Drive or the 180 Drive ? Just wondering which one is better for several hours on the water. I'm Really Sold on the 120 but I've heard , the Peddle/ Bike style is harder on the back then the 180 Drive is. The PdL for me seems much better with the Higher seat for getting up and Down and the Stability seems Sweet , and I know the Hobie would for Sure be harder getting up and Down , but the Peddling is a Big Factor for me , I've had Several Spinal Surgeries , so I Absolutely need the most Comfortable and the best Drive system for my Back . Could you Please Help Me Out and give me your Opinion Aliex . Thank You Aliex, and keep Up All The Amazing Content and Videos Aliex . Have a Blessed and Great Wednesday

I don't think the outback is good for people with back issues, I have leg cramps on that boat, the seat is not the most comfortable. In terms of the drive you really have to test it out, I feel like the bike motion is better for me but lots of people say the 180 is way better. How are you going to transport it? why no try a hobie pa 12 with regular 180? the seat is just awesome and it has so many adjustments points

I'm Pretty sure I'm Sold on the Old Town Too Water 120 , the Hobie is just a Sweet Fully Rigged Kayak , But the Top Water would more then get the Job Done For me .And I believe the Top Water overall with my back for sitting and standing and comfort and stability and quality is spot on for my needs . But as you say the Hobie is the Apple 🍎 of the Kayak world , but Old Town ain't no slouch . I would just love one Awsome Kayak and then we'll get a second one for my Wife , she wants a Paddle style as of now 👍

Great comparison video. Both have their advantages. I wonder if you spent the the $600+ difference on accessories and upgrades how much they would still compare. I think the Topwater would take a clear lead as long as you were happy with the drive system. $600 dollars would get you a paddle, basic fish finder, additional tracks and accessories and so on. Or gets you well on your way to a Bixby motor.

Hey Aliex I'm 6' 260lbs. My area has a lot of weeds in the mid summer. I'm a bass fisherman. I also do cat fishing and pan fishing. I will be going on rivers and lakes most of the time. Should I go with the Native Slayer propel 12.5 max or the Hobie Outback 2020???

Ohh man, grass is a big problem with propel drive, the Hobie drive just goes thru most of the time. Do you see yourself having a hard time maintaining position? Instant Reverse with no hands is a huge advantage on the slayer

@@Freddy. I second what Aliex says. The Vibe is a good deal for the money. I had one for two years before I got my Topwater PDL. But whether it's a PDL or Mirage drive, I enjoy fishing with a pedal drive so much more, especially when windy.
