Who has the cups? Can you imagine the extra green any Leaf player would make post a Leafs Stanley Cup? Marner's gonna get his next bank roll somewhere but won't be in Toronto. Nice guy but its not working here.
Can you imagine bullying the organization in negotiations knowing the fans will hear tidbits of that process and being shocked when not showing up that people are extremely put off
Dallas vs Vegas is an awesome series !!!! Both teams are fighting like hell to win likes it’s the WCF 🔥🔥 Vegas won the first two in Dallas and Dallas won the next two in Vegas amazing hockey !!!!
I've had both food poisoning (Matthews) and migraines (Neylander) and both are enough to bench a player. I've also played with the flu and that was manageable. But the other two ailments are enough to sit out.
I've had manageable flu's and others where I felt I was going to pass out. It all depends. But the last thing I'd want to see is Matthews pass out on the ice or on the bench.
Kyper as usual is the ultimate Marner apologist. i.e., deflecting Marner’s lack of character and performance by way of raising questions about Mathews and Nylander.
@@Spike10111 he put Marner at the top of the list in terms of things that need to be questioned. I am the apologist you’re looking for, bud. When I saw Marner fling down those gloves, my first reaction was “good, at least someone cares on this team.”
@@OkayRocket30660 I'll go even further... at least hes been there in every game... how can people put him above the other 2 on the blame list... lol. guys involved in most of their goals.
JT isn't in his prime anymore. They offered him the captaincy and they offered him the contract. Don't expect John to be your saviour at 33-34 years old. There is no arguing that he's not worth his contract but are any of these guys worth those contracts seriously.
Because he's the 4th best player on the team and has as many goals as his superior contemporaries. The best goal scorer on the planet #34 has 1 goal in his last 9 playoff games. The blame is distributed correctly.
I think the frustration with Matthews, specifically, is a bit much. Not every illness is the same, so even if Michael Jordan could play through the flu, that doesn't mean Matthews' illness is something he could play through and be effective.
Buddy , when one gets paid $ 11 million for 8 months work it comes with the territory . I'm not a Leafs fan but a little leaf trivia for you Bob Baun played with a BROKEN LEG !! Let that sink IN !!! And when asked , was it worth it his answer was yes ! This man wasn't a SISSY BOY . So when a player has a headache or a tummy ache and doesn't play , I have absolutely NO RESPECT .
@@kevinsloan5570 If it was indeed just a 'tummy ache', sure, he could probably have played through that... But we don't know what exactly he was dealing with. If it was an upper respiratory thing where his breathing was impeded (especially in the lungs rather than just the nose), how is he supposed to get enough oxygen to even get a burst of speed, let alone play shift after shift? We just don't have enough info, in my opinion, to label Matthews a 'sissy boy'. As for Nylander, it may not even have been his call whether he played or not if they suspected a concussion.
@@kevinsloan5570 How much a player gets paid should have NOTHING to do with why they're unable to continue playing in the game. You have NO idea why Matthews missed the third period. If I were him, I would be planning on how to get out of Toronto and play for a team whose so called fans aren't idiots.
Exactly, and everyone is praising Willie for his play, but just wait until he starts slacking and making 11.5m They'll be ripping him too, as they should.
@@bradbradbury8561Exactly. Ive never been a big Willy fan, but I always said "You will never get better value at 6.9" now hes making 11.5, he doesnt get that anymore.
Reaves has been the Leafs biggest anchor, every game he has a play/penalty that causes a goal. He is a net negative on the team. Feels like a buyout should happen in the offseason
Bourne thank God there's on voice of reason ...your right on the money ....everyone insinuating mathes is not sick ...I'm worried about his health ...he would play if he could
As a neutral fan, this is the first time I can recall watching you guys where you don't seem frustrated, you seem genuinely angry. I hope some substantial changes come once the Leafs get bounced because throwing the same stuff at the wall over and over just isn't working.
Because we don't care... We said this doesnt work 4 years ago .. they refuse to change anything and expect a different result... It's complete insanity and everyone needs to be fired from shanny down... Trades Marner and JT if u can
It does seem to generate the attendance revenue, though, so… Seriously, the time when I was most proud of fans was when joe Bowen lamented how empty the lower bowl seats were.
Guys, have you ever had a bad migraine? I have and it's a bed ridden experience with crazy eye sensitivity and throwing up every half hour. You can't play hockey with certain migraines end of story. And Mathews leaving in the third is a guy who is obviously dealing with something bad and couldn't finish the game. I trust Nylander and Mathews to make the right call. And why would the Leafs explain what's happening with the injured players when Boston wants to know how to pair up for the next game. They need to stay quiet and keep the other team guessing.
When you dump it you have to chase and if you can’t chase it and create disruption with energy for chances I mean what are you doing at all, I saw Auston try to dump one but they had zero pressure and Boston just turns and breaks it out one pass out to the blue line and it’s back in Torontos zone. It’s just so many things and it starts with coaching and the core identity honestly.
Treliving is coming up to a year on the job. He had to have time to look over the entire organization. He gave Keefe and extension, he had to fill a few roster spots with some Free Agents on 1 year contracts, he had to sign Willie, he had to add some grit. But otherwise he said take it away Keefe and scoutng, take it away core 4. Now Treiving has the info to make changes.
A common denominator through all of Leafs playoff defeats over the years has been Morgan Rielly being relied upon as the Team's number one dman. The repeated lack of recognition that Rielly is incapable of being a difference maker has been a factor. Management has refused to build the defence.
2002 was the last time the Leafs had a .500 record (10-10) in the playoffs and 2001 was the last time the Leafs had a record of above .500 in the playoffs (7-4) when Sundin was in his prime.
Hockeys changed, I had me eyelid torn almost completely off from a butend in the 1st period, I'm laying on the operating table in my gear, I'm watching the Dr thread my eyelid back on, my father was telling me it's a shame we can't get back to finish the 3rd period of the game, I was 12, 1972. Boston
GOALTENDING!! Some saves would be nice. Logan Thompson stopped 4 breakaways against Dallas in the second period alone the other night. Meanwhile Sammy is allowing goals from a distance at a bad angle when there's no screen. Edmonton won 1-0 last night after being outshot 30-11. You're allowed to expect some saves from your goalie. I'd say it's more important than "a plucky attitude".
I think the frustration for Leafs fans this year is that Boston doesn't look good. They look beatable. If we get 7 games where Toronto steals a bunch and look outclassed it is way more palatable than watching 5 games where it looked like they were disinterested for the majority of those 5 games. You can't win the playoffs with this lineup. On average the Leafs are paying their goalies 2 million dollars per goalie. On average they are paying their defense 2.1 million per defenseman and if you take out Reilly it drops to an average of 1.5 million. So basically we have 2 or 3 really good forward lines, 1 good defenseman and 9 3rd pairing defensemen, and 3 of the cheapest goalies in the league. It's hard to watch your defensemen fail your below average goaltenders regularly. Next year like 55% of the Leafs cap is spent on 4 players. This rerun is going to be replayed next year.
Thank the good Lord for experts like Kyper 26:27 to 27:00. While all other "experts" are jumping on the bandwagon of shouting, screaming, cursing and hating Mitch Marner, trying to be a part of headlines , it is refreshing to hear some common sense from a guy that speaks with a level head and wont jeopardize the future of an elite member of the Leafs, we have lost enough of them based on rants and poor management decisions. Stop dumping on Marner, Mathews and Nylander. This team has more holes in it than a sponge. Start by firing Shanahan asap. Fire the PP and PK coaches. Mathews, Marner, Nylander, Domi, Knies, Bertuzzi, Tavars (next season only), Woll, MacCabe, Benoit, Rielly, Macmman should be untouchables for next season, dump the rest and rebuild.
They mentioned food poisoning as a suspect......that tells me that he could have be crapping his pants on the ice!!!! "I'd rather puke in front of 20000 fans than go off"......What if you were sh*tting Kyper?? For god's sake, if they don't have an explanation afterwards....fire, trade, cry...whatever. Don't sit there punishing Matthews when you don't know what it is.
Agree w the take on the guys not being in the game...rather then be there at 50% doing their best and they loose rather them they don't cone out at all
591 I know that it is a easy answer, but think about it. first it was management so they change it, then it was coaching so they changed it, than its no key players, so they changed it. and so on and so on. Nothing works. Once a team makes the playoffs, they need to beat in a series 4 other teams to win the Stanley Cup, let that sink in just a second. That is 1 more than the entire league back in the Early 60's, which was the last time a Toronto Maple Leaf team won a Cup. So what really needs to change is the Team! Sell Them, move them, change the home ice, Change the team colors. But just get rid of the franchise and bring in some thing completely new. How many NEW Franchises have won a Cup since the Leaf's last won? Almost all of the new franchise teams have. The last team to win was St. Louis and they were one of the first new teams to be added and even they finally won again Before the Leaf's. IT's the Franchise, Get rid of the entire Franchise. Right down to the door man , the janitor, hell even the bricks in the building. Its time to flood someone's back yard and start developing 5 year old's, who have no clue who the LEAFS WERE, they will never be again the team we all deserve. Thank you and Good Bye Leaf's. 456
I find Justin really sane. Other two, not so much. Criticise the players all you want, but these guys are competitors and theres likely a very strong reason why Matty didn't come back for the 3rd. I owe him the benefit of the doubt because he's earned it.
You know I would normally say go with Sammy in goal bc he is more clutch...the guy always seems to come up with timely saves which helps with momentum...that aside in this series he has been playing different man. 2 goals almost identical where he is coming out more out of his net. On the pk when Marchand scored I'm guessing he was worried about a deflection from the point so he was coming out right on top of bruins in front but he should've noticed Marchand all open on the side. Same thing happened with the Pasta goal in game 1 . He normally does not play like that and he usually anticipates those kind of plays . Woll is home grown..guess would make a good strory but I haven't seen spectacular play from him so far. Good goalie though will also let in a bad one.
Saturday night was the first time that I TURNED OFF maple leaf’s and was sick of losing and never saw 3rd period til highlights in morning, why is it that Toronto can’t play this time in year (playoffs) why …..why can’t the play to win , give us the fans to cheer about ,, Why
1st overall pick - 2008 - Steven Stamkos - 2 Stanley cups, 4 times as captain in the finals 1st overall pick - 2009 - John Tavares - 0 Stanley cups, 0 times in the finals, 0 times in conference finals, 2/15 years round 2
Good thing its a team sport eh? Lol... Stamkos won a cup because of the team that S.Y. pretty much built . He was hurt the entire run . Played 1 shift i think. 18000000 over the cap aswell 👌
This is suppose to be MECCA. You don't get away with this effort here. Block pucks, storm the net, figure out a way!!! We got stuck with a bunch of pop stars who don't want to win bad enough.
This Leafs team has and never will be a Stanley Cup contender with this bunch! There is so much to criticize for the past several years. They have 4 dudes getting paid more than half of the team's salary cap and most nights they are just average. The defense has improved and are better than before but are still lacking something. And the goaltending is just okay! Sammy will never save or win a big game on his own. Woll was hot in beginning but since coming back has not shined. Then Kieffer makes too many excuse for the boys and lack the necessary toughness a good coach sometimes needs to motivate his players! My final sentence here is ... See yous next year guys! Enjoy your summer golfing!
Kyper… Marner is the only one who has showed any kind of emotion? Is Paul in your ear? He shows the emotion of a pee wee Allstar getting benched for the first time in his life. That’s not the kinda emotion that’s gonna win this team a cup. He needs to go
Let's be clear though, if the Leafs lose this series, it won't be due to goaltending. Like maybe Game 3, Samsonov or Woll steals a game. Okay. Does that change the conversation around Leafs getting owned on special teams? No.
I agree with Kipper, they seem unorganized. It is one thing to be talking about what you want to do as a group, but there seems to be a lot of individual play, and a lack of organization, like Nylander leaving the zone, Marner getting down too low, Mathews at times gets stuck in a shooting spot and leaves late on the back check. It is standard stuff when we have the puck we do this, and get to the net, when we lose the puck we do this. That is not happening.
I don't know what everyone's so surprised about; Leafs played better than okay, with brief flashes of something extra, all season. Could have potentially slipped to a Wild Card spot, but avoided that. Played the whole season like some talented individuals but not a great team, and now the playoffs are no different.
Even without trading anyone, there’s cap room to overhaul the right side of the D and add a marquee UFA (ie Lindholm or Marchessault). A Marner trade (Keller?) obviously creates even more flexibility
very evident last year against Florida in the playoffs . Same issues again against Boston this year. When up against a physical team who plays good defense, forechecks well and battles along the boards for the puck. The leafs fluff four can't compete. Until the leafs build a team to compete against Florida or Boston, which should be their primary objective. They better move out of the Atlantic division, otherwise expect the same results next year
You can blame Marner all you want. In the end? You paid $13 million for 1 playoff goal this year. I could care less what Matthews did in the regular season. Teams with good players with less points and paid less are in the same position as the Leafs. You have the second highest scoring team in the league. You have the highest scoring player in the league and you paid $13 million for one goal, period. So blame Marner all you want. But it's management. It's coaching. Lack of defence. Lack of goaltending. Lack of leadership.
