‘Buena Vista Social Club at Carnegie Hall’ is the recording of the historic performance at New York’s famous Carnegie Hall (one of only 3 concerts ever played by the original line-up), which became the centre-piece of the hugely successful 1999 film directed by Wim Wenders. Produced by Ry Cooder and released 10 years after the show took place, the album features brilliant and unrepeatable performances by legends including Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Rubén González, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, Cachaíto López, and Guajiro Mirabal.

I was born in a very primitive village in Eastern province of Rwanda, what i remember is that this song and another one called "guantanamera" were like national anthems. It was the time before we get access to internet, every music was played on National Radio. Good old days.

You may want to check out the other collaborations that Ry Cooder has made. He is the white guy that brought these guys a lot of recognition due to his fame, plus BVSC are fantastic. This song was on repeat for such a long time on my stereo. Too bad I don't speak Spanish all that well. Plus I think that since they are Cuban it makes it a lot harder to understand them.

Soy italiano, pero fui a Santiago de Cuba y Siboney a visitar la casa de Compay Segundo y vi su monumento. Luego tomé un auto y ... De Alto Cedro voy para Marcané, Llego a Cueto voy para Mayarí. Viajé por los caminos de la canción para llegar a Cayo Saetia. Un viaje que nunca olvidaré.

I was in Cuba on vacation from Canada when I heard this song... The cuban residents kept playing it at the resort over and over again.. Even when I went on the trips to cuban villages, they kept playing this song. I am so happy that the cuban culture has brought me this song being a white Canadian. This is now one of my favourite songs to listen to. Thank you for posting this.

Ahí hay dos "gringos", como dicen mas abajo. Y son el maestro Ry Cooder y su hijo. Gracias a ellos se hizo este documental y se juntaron todos estos músicos maravillosos para enseñar al mundo la música de Cuba que se estaba perdiendo. Máximo respeto para todos ellos. Son un regalo. Saludos
