We visited his grave years ago on a vacation trip. As I recall, Buffalo Bill was an early conservationist in that he saved the last existing buffalo and raised them, saving the breed for posterity.

My great grandfather was a ‘neighbor’ of Buffalo Bill in North Platte. It’s been told, in our family, that they spent time on each other’s porches visiting. I loved watching this video!

I am 73 and visited the old original , small log cabin museum back in 1975. with my buddy Gilbert and my future wife ,Vicki. We drove to Colorado from Michigan City ,Indiana. We were so drunk and high driving to Colorado that Gilbert was passing cars on the shoulder of the highway doing about 85 mph ! All of a sudden, out of nowhere ,a Colorado State Trooper pulled us over and had us follow him to his office in a ghost town to pay a fine. Heh. The cop was a cool dude though. We used an outhouse there before we left. Then you had to drive up a dangerous and spiraling road , to the parking lot ,that wove around Lookout Mountain with no guard rails along the edges ,just big rocks. It was very scary. Especially since we had gotten high. Yikes! Back then everything was simpler. The log cabin museum was small and only had a few rooms. The grave site was right behind the cabin museum with the wrought iron fencing but no rocks around it , just the pine trees. You could see Golden ,Colorado's Coors Brewing facility from up there and the plains that stretched for miles and a very long rise of the ground on the plains and you could imagine the thousands of buffalo that were there back in the day. I don't remember the restaurant at all but maybe we didn;t see it. I was about 24 then and when we walked into the log cabin museum the guy clerk at the register told me I looked like Buffalo Bill with my shoulder length hair and facial features. He pulled a postcard up from a rack that showed Bill at a younger age and I'll be damned if it didn't look like me. Cool. But I am in no way related to the Codys.I remember there was a small glass case with his pistols and gun belt and his favorite rifle was there too. There was an eight foot grizzly standing stuffed, in one room too. It was a much smaller museum then but full of memorabilia of Bill's. All the walk ways and railings were not there . Much had been done to the area since I was there in 1975. I am glad I was there all those decades ago. Later, since it was July 4th weekend, we went to Laramie Square in Denver, got big cups of Coors beer at "Your Father's Mustache" bar and got buzzed in the high altitude easily in the Square. Heh. Peace to all. (PS Since Coors was not being sold in Indiana yet (1975 ) we took back a couple cases to party with our friends, that weekend. )

My great uncle used to have lunch with him in Cheyenne~1911ish. Cliff, at 16 years old, was a fireman in helper engine service on Sherman Hill. Bill would hang out at times; catch a ride up to the summit-they'd 'cut-out', wye-around, then drift back down the hill & grab a bite (Bill treated the crew).

Buffalo Bill was awarded the Congressional Medal for a battle when he scouted for the fifth cavalry. He is the one that killed Chief Yellow Hand at Warbonnet Creek. His traveling show was on his ranch in North Platte, Neb. The whole town is on his ranch. His house and barn is there for tours. The Erma Hotel in Cody, Wyo. is named after his daughter.

For anyone who may not know Colorado Springs, Colorado City and Manitou Springs today kind of blend into each other. Back in 1963 we lived in a log cabin on Crystal Park Rd. in Manitou Springs. Directly behind our cabin was a small stream. I used to spend most of my spare time riding up Gold Camp Rd. to Cripple Creek and over Battle Mountain to Victor. In 1963 Cripple Creek and Victor were both semi Ghost Towns and Not tourist destinations like they have become today. Great memories.

On the occasion of the first Scottish visit of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West, Glasgow was the sole venue. The show secured a residency of more than three months, finally concluding on Saturday, 27th February 1892, at the recently vacated East End Exhibition Buildings in Dennistoun, secured by lease and specially converted into a 7,000 seater amphitheatre. The entourage had completed an engagement in Croydon, near London, on Saturday, 24th October, and proceeded to Glasgow by train immediately thereafter. The opening night finally took place on Monday, 16th November 1891, after a succession of ‘vexatious delays’ had forced repeated postponements, whilst an army of workmen battled round the clock with the extensive preparations.
