Buffalo Bill was quite possibly the most famous American on earth when he passed in 1917, and thankfully, the life of such a legend remains wonderfully documented today.
However, in 1880 he presented a classic Winchester 1866 Yellow Boy to a man known as "Panther Bill." Who was Panther Bill and why can't collectors find the answer in William F. Cody's thoroughly documented life?

It was for himself. Winchester would send him weapons especially for presentation free of charge. It was the best advertising of the day. Panther bill is wild bill

Given the "Bill" portion of "Panther Bill", I think we can assume W. L. to be the initials of Mr. La Scott's first and middle names. In that case, A. D.might very well be the initials of a job title that would lend a clue to his occupation.
