Every year, Paul Wieland of the Buffalo Sabres TV Production Management would put on an April Fools cablecast, and this year, it was no exception. He conjured up a fake Womens Hockey Association, (Buffalo Chapter) or WHA, that wanted to make NHL Hockey broadcasts more 'softer' and 'appealing' to the woman viewer. The on-air personnel went along with the gag, as well as the TV crew. This went on not only during Intermissions, but during the game broadcast itself. It was meant as a gag only, a little 'tweak' of sorts.
