Episode 495. Time to revisit Buffalo Trace and why not compare it to Eagle Rare. In my area BT is available and surprisingly affordable, which makes it a perfect summer dram for the deck! Have you had either? #buffalotrace #bourbon #whiskyneighbour

I hear the same complaints about Buffalo Trace's availability in the USA, and it's perplexing. I see Buffalo Trace regularly on shelves in Ontario. I have yet to see Eagle Rare, but Blantons just showed up here, so anything is possible.
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Год назад
Lol! Yep, Blantons sits on the shelf here too, but so many states cannot find it. Do you enjoy BT?
@Amk4792

Confirming that it’s impossible most of the time to find standard BT. My local store has it behind a glass case!

@@WhiskyNeighbour I have only had Blanton's once. I lucked out and won free samples of Blanton's, Elmer T. Lee, Ancient Ancient Age and Rock Hill Farms from your fellow RU-vidrs Phil and Julie of The Bourbon Van. All four samples have the same mashbills but varying ABVs from 90-100. I only noticed the highest ABV. I ordered a bottle of Blanton's from the LCBO for $75 but I have a feeling I am going to love the pretty bottle more than the juice inside.

Buffalo Trace is good on the rocks and in some cocktails but as a predominantly Scotch drinker, Eagle Rare 10 was the first bourbon I could drink neat and I absolutely loved it! Great comparison Jon, cheers!

Thankfully, both of these are readily available in Northern Ireland with not more of a price difference. Unfortunately, the BT we get is only 40% ABV. Cheers Jon.

Very timely review Jon. BT had been good and I am totally with you on a pour over a big block of ice and the summer evening's relaxation is perfect. Now that BT and WT101 are at the same price in Ont, I gravitate more toward WT101 which is surprisingly good. Grabbed a couple of bottles of Eagle Rare when they showed up and really liked the first bottle. The other two favorites are Four Roses Single Barrel and WT Rare Breed....both are great and although a price jump from BT and WT101, they are definitely worth it for me.
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Год назад
Glad you can get this too, and I would agree WT101 offers a little more! Cheers!

Great quick comparison! I'm very Malt-Centric, with that said, of the 5 bottles of Bourbon currently on the shelf these are the 2 I always keep around. Surprisingly easy to acquire at good prices in B.C. as well. And don't worry about the whisky mobs, I also enjoy BT in an old fashioned or over a large ice cube 😊 Cheers 🥃

Thanks for the reassurance I'm OK drinking a Bourbon over ice. Cheers!

Used to get eagle rare for 27.99 all the time. Now it is very hard to find. Still 39.99 at most places, if not more. Enjoy both bourbons. Thank you for the review.

I'm finding Eagle Rare for $42 (seems like a great price these days) and Buffalo Trace for $30 at a store in the Atlanta metro. Buffalo Trace has actually been harder to find, recently. Neither is just sitting on the shelf, but if I show up at the right time on the right day then I can get it. Would you being buying ER at those prices?
@WhiskyNeighbour
@WhiskyNeighbour Месяц назад
I would, or at least if was going going to buy either at those prices, I would choose the ER. I pay more than that for ER, but I can get BT around here for less. Which makes it easier to pick up. Thanks for sharing!

ER is better than BT, but by not much really. The proof points hurt on both and ET in my opinion is just an older tasting BT. However both solid pours and are always reliable. Just not worth the hunt and inflates prices on ER you see in the states.

I’ve got both on my shelf right now, and I think Eagle Rare is light years better than regular Buffalo Trace. To me, BT tastes like the stuff that couldn’t make the cut for ER.

Great review, Jon, and I enjoy both of these bourbons! I was curious if you had any Rittenhouse rye on hand, and, if so, would you be open to reviewing the classic “whiskey and rye,” which is half Eagle Rare and half Rittenhouse? Thank you, and I’ve really been enjoying your channel!
@WhiskyNeighbour

Thanks for jumping in Don. Sadly, I do not have any Rittenhouse on hand. Still, I should try this. I wonder how a Canadian Rye, like Lot 40 and the Eagle Rare would pare?!

I wouldn't buy anything from Buffalo Trace Distillery even if I could find it... allocation games are ridiculous. I've moved on to craft Gins and Rye's from local merchants who care about the customers. Dad's Hat BIB Rye is my poison these days along with Revivalist Solstice Barrel aged Gin.

I do wish I could find more local craft distillers to support local. I do like Buffalo Trace, but I love Elijah Craig Small batch better and it’s my go to. Buying 1.75 bottle of Elijah Craig over a bourbon you can’t find is better.

Blame allocation on distributors and the 3 tier system along with local stores holding back product themselves. BT is producing massive amounts of bourbon.

Eagle Rare is good. However, it’s $70 USD here. There are tons of other options in that price range that are far better than ER. As for BT, it’s $30 here. That’s a no brainer for me. To be honest, I would drink WT 101 over either of these and be happy.

All buffalo trace products share mash bills that are very similar. I personally prefer eagle rare over any of the others. And I will not pay these ridiculous secondary prices. It’s whiskey not magic beans. As I say you do you it’s your choice and everyone will drink their favorite alcohol.

IF/When ER comes to my city, it either sells out right away, or by the time I actuallt go to a store that DID have it, its already gone. Cheers Jon 🥃 🦬 🥃

Ya... $65-70 🇨🇦 for Eagle Rare is Scotch Territory for me... Tomatin 12 is only one example. Do want at least ONE bottle of Eagle Rare- at SOME point- but the price is a head scratcher... any entry level Scotch vs ER at $70
@Ben_Demon_Hunter
@Ben_Demon_Hunter Год назад
Three more- cheaper - Scotch options are Tomatin Legacy, Deanston 12 & Deanston Virgin Oak, all found for under $60 🇨🇦... even if the Deanston's might be found on sale
