Several of the biggest market experts have been voicing their opinions on exactly how awful they think the next downturn would be, and how far equities may have to go, as recession draws closer and inflation continues.. well above the Fed's 2% objective. These are fantastic takes, I feel exceptionally lucky I started investing in my early 40s and consistently compounded my income via assets to create more cash flow. I grew to a 7 figure well-diversified portfolio having exposure to different prolific investments mainly savings account, stocks, bonds and high yield dividend funds. Forever grateful to my adviser Trisha Jean Webb . Passive income is mandatory for building long term wealth.

I respectfully disagree regarding Apple. If I received $10k to never buy Apple products again, I’d take it. I don’t have an iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook. I have an iPhone but don’t see the reason to pay 5x to 10x for a phone where other competitors out there are available. Streaming with Apple TV is a pain. You need to buy their box. Why? More junk to clutter up my cabinet? What if I need 3 TVs connected? Pain. Whenever Buffett speaks I get more confused. He’s too high level and I think he knows more than what he says. Insider trading perhaps? We cannot prove it but seems strange.

Bitcoin is far from perfect, but there is valid use cases. You can transfer no cap sums for a few dollars, instead of your bank shaving multiple percentage points of the top. You can also store the money safely in your head, which means you can travel anywhere in the world without being at risk of losing anything. No customs, bank or state can stop you from remembering 12 words, which is all you need.

I would totally accept a $10k payment to never use Apple products again. I used iPhone and macbook for 5 years at work and found the iPhone to be nothing special. Android is the better software and good Android phones are available for less than half price. The (lack of) interoperability between iPhone apps is horrible. Synchronizing contacts to iCloud (so I can use them on the macbook) never worked and nobody could make it work. The macBook was actually good, very good performance, large SSD, however the Thunderbolt connectors were a bit flaky - but ultimately I am not a notebook lover.
@Tophaloaf23

Hi Joseph, love your channel and have been watching you for years. Regarding bitcoin, I respectfully disagree. Bitcoin is a network outside of the current monetary system. It's money, not an investment. The framing of it as an investment and requiring cash flow is an incorrect one. The 'investment' opportunity is the gain of purchasing power as people switch from one monetary network to another over time. As for other "crypto" tokens, most are vaporware and offer no real solution to anything, so I'd agree with you there.
@Tophaloaf23
@Tophaloaf23 Год назад
@@bill_the_butcher Good question. Fiat money is by decree. More monetary units can be created with the stroke of a pen/keyboard, and your purchasing power eroded over time without your consent. The Bitcoin network's monetary policy is known, and there will always be a set number of units (21M). The value you earn by your own production (job, products, services, etc.) will be preserved over time in the Bitcoin network. Every monetary unit is additive. We're at the beginning of the adoption curve with Bitcoin so priced in dollars (or any other fiat currency), it looks volatile, but it's an incredibly stable system and is more secure than storing value in a bank (if you hold your own keys).

Hey Joseph, was wondering why you do not invest in nvidia? Would love to hear your thoughts in a video
@scramptha5949
@scramptha5949 Год назад
I can probably answer that question for you. From a qualitative standpoint: 1. NVDA operates in an inherently risky industry (High capex and R&D costs) 2. it does not have service based recurring revenue 3. it faces stiff competition from AMD, Intel, and others. 4. it is subject to macroeconomic risks (falling out of favor with consumers, crypto crashes, and recessions). From a Quantitative standpoint: 1. NVDA is trading at a very high valuation (low FCF yield) 2. Management is not diligent or conservative with spending and dilution (FCF grows at about 15-20% over the last decade, but stock based compensation has grown at an astounding 30-40% over the same time frame.)

I started investing in the stock market because of dividends. What matters, in my opinion, is that if you invest and earn more money in addition to dividends, you will be able to live off of dividends without selling. It implies that you can pass that on to your children, giving them a head start in life. I've invested over $600k in dividend stocks over the years; I continue to buy more today and will continue to do so until the price lowers even further.

IMO, as someone who had follow this channel since near the beginning & been in the markets for over 10yrs , the critic from strongman's video is unjust. Joseph never claim to have any special insights, he share what he research and his thoughts. And his portfolio is fully transparent . I enjoy Joseph content, as full time engineer I don't have time to always follow the market, he bring out information , either its entertainment value or every now and then there is good insight and gems. Mostly importantly he keeps ppl invested in the long term. Long story short, not the biggest fan of Strongman on some of his content, and feel like a bottom feeder or just a pure troll sometime. Sure some of his vid he call out other YT ppl for the right reason.
@JosephCarlsonShow
@JosephCarlsonShow Год назад
I feel a bit bad for him. I looked over his videos and it seems like he spends a lot of his days looking for ways to criticize, name call, and try to embarrass others. I can't imagine spending every day looking for "gotcha" moments of other channels and how you can attack others. I'd rather try to make content that's uplifting, motivating, and encouraging to others, and be far more forgiving about their shortcomings. He's of course free to do what he wants, but I am too. I'm going to focus on what I do is make content that I think is high quality, entertaining, motivating, and informative. I don't spend a lot of time entertaining bad-faith, forced-drama critics. I've tried to be respectful of others from the start of this channel and I'm not going to change that now. To make some things clear: - I'm not an expert, I have said so a million times. I have never claimed to be an expert or portrayed myself that way. I started my channel with a strict focus on transparency and honesty which I thought was missing from the financial field. - I'm not against index investing. I own an index (dow jones dividend 100 index) in my portfolio with SCHD. I think index's are great. But I also think it's fine to allocate capital how you want with individual stocks so you can control weightings. - I'm sad that some people feel the need to constantly hate on everything I do, but that's how RU-vid goes. It's part of the industry and how things work. The channel has grown to a very large size and that makes you a target for the TMZ crowd on RU-vid.

@lularocha
@lularocha Год назад
@@JosephCarlsonShow Hi Joseph, below is a couple of paragraphs from Alex Gladstein's article "Check Your Financial Privilege" published on bitcoin magazine (the article include comments on Warren Buffet, Charlie Munger and Bill Gates opinions on Bitcoin): "13% of our planet’s population is born into the dollar, euro, Japanese yen, British pound, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar or Swiss Franc. The other 87% are born into autocracy or considerably less trustworthy currencies. 4.3 billion people live under authoritarianism, and 1.2 billion people live under double- or triple-digit inflation. Critics in the dollar bubble miss the bigger global picture: that anyone with access to the internet can now participate in Bitcoin, a new money system with equal rules for all participants, running on a network that does not censor or discriminate, used by individuals who do not need to show a passport or an ID and held by citizens in a way that is hard to confiscate and impossible to debase." Many times in history, in many countries, people had their entire life savings wiped out overnight. Just to give you an example, this year in January, the Lebanese government debased the Lebanese Pound by 90% !!!!! If you talk to someone in Lebanon, Nigeria, Sudan, Venezuela or Argentina, people will tell you Bitcoin is a life saver (remember that in many of these countries you can't save in gold or USD even if you could the government can confiscate that too). As a side note I want to add that Bitcoin is completely different from every other Crypto currency. And finally I have to say that I appreciate very much the work you do and I watch every single video you put out in both channels. I guess that's why I'm pushing back, I just can't get my head around that you being such an intelligent guy with the heart in the right place, still don't have a more informed opinion on Bitcoin. If you're interested I suggest you read one or two more articles from Alex Gladstein on Bitcoin Magazine or anything from DerGigi .

@@lularocha BTC has been around for 14 years now. Almost half as old as the public internet already (30 years). Its not a matter of time, there has been enough time. There needs to be a new kind of breaktrough / usage or there is no value to be found there. btw, many of those born under autocracy will not be allowed to use bitcoin or any other crypto (China). Also, why is it always a bad thing for the government and banks to have access to peoples money? That is how we keep the system afloat, with taxes on transactions between known entities.
@lularocha
@lularocha Год назад
@@sdtok527 Bitcoin IS the breakthrough. With many use cases, it is just that people are not aware of them. As I said before there are huge social and financial benefits like having money governments cannot confiscate. I think that is a good enough reason. As an example here in Brazil In 1990, the Brazilian government confiscated every single deposit and savings account. Can you imagine that? Your life savings gone overnight? Argentina has done the same more than once! And recently, this year, the Central Bank of Nigeria determined that "Nigerians will only be allowed to withdraw 44 dollars per week per individual and $11,000 for businesses, a policy that is most likely to affect millions of Nigerians especially businessmen and high cash intensive activities". I could go on and talk about breakthroughs in remittances, payment rails (Bitcoin/Lightning network) or benefits in the energy sector (again lots of people are not aware of those either), but I think it is really best when people do their own research. There are many videos and podcasts here on RU-vid and there are also many good books. Oh by the way if you're a long term investor you might like to know that "Bitcoin Becomes Best Performing Asset Of The Decade, Returning Ten Times More Than Nasdaq 100", 10X !? not bad. You can read this article at Yahoo Finance.

I have to agree with @lularocha here, you always do in depth research for most of the topics covered on this channel. However, this topic clearly wasn't researched in depth on your end, let alone W. Buffet. I'm a long term subscriber and also your Patreon and I love your content btw, but have to disagree here. I'll let Vitalik (if you don't know who that is then you really need to do some research) explain why blockchains are useful by directly quoting his points from his January 23rd 2015 Ethereum blog post: "Now why are blockchains useful? To summarize: - You can store data on them and that data is guaranteed to have a very high degree of availability - You can run applications on them and be guaranteed an extremely high uptime - You can run applications on them, and be guaranteed an extremely high uptime, going very far into the future - You can run applications on them and convince your users that the application's logic is honest and is doing what you are advertising that it does - You can run applications on them and convince your users that your application will remain working even if you lose interest in maintaining it, you are bribed or threatened to manipulate the application state in some way, or you acquire a profite motive to manipulate the application state in some way - You can run applications on them, and give yourself the backdoor key if it is absolutely neccessary, BUT put "constitutional limitations" on your use of the key - for example, requiring a software update to pass through a public one month waiting period before it can be introduced, or at the very least immediately notifying users of application updates - You can run applications on them, and give a backdoor key to a particular governance algorithm (e.g. voting futarchy, some complicated multicameral parliment architecture), and convince your users that the particular governance algorithm in question is actually in control of the application - You can run applications on them and those applications can talk to each other with 100% reliability - even if the underlying platform has only 99.999% reliability - Multiple users or companies can run applications on them and those applications can interact with each other at extremely high speed without requiring any network messages while at the same time ensuring that each company has total control over its own application - You can build applications that very easily and efficiently take advantage of the data produced by other applications (combining payments and reputation systems is perhaps the largest gain here) All of those things are valuable indirectly to billions of people around the world, potentially particularly in regions of the world where highly developed economic, financial, and social infrastructure currenlty does not work at all (though technology will often need to be combined with political reforms to solve many of the problems) and blockchain are good at providing these properties. ... There do exist other achitectures that can also provide these properties but they are slightly to moderately less good than blockchains are." And this is not even mentioning zero knowledge proofs and other advanced technologies in the space. Please do your due diligence and don't just blindly agree with people that don't have sufficient knowledge in this area. Sure 99% of crypto projects are scams (not much different from traditional companies selling useless services and low quality products), but the other 1% is truly exciting and innovative technology that has great potential in the future.

I severely disagree with buffet's investment in apple because that money could have higher upside elsewhere with the same low risk. Apple is going to experience a multiple collapse at some point because at the end of the day fundamentals don't fucking lie. When a company stops growing it's bottom line net income and doesn't continue giving earnings to beat the S&P return rate over the last 100 years of 10.5% without very risk free growth, it will experience a multiple collapse. I've seen this time and time again with growth stocks that stagnated, with older companies as i look at their quarterly charts. Apple is a terrible investment because they can't increase their bottom line greater than inflation because it has almost completely peaked. The curse of a 2.54T Market cap is that even a 5B in net income increase barely affects the stock price. Ignore what he's doing, invest in Tesla. They will have over 200B of net income by decades end and still have a growth multiple justifying a massive market cap which equals stock price.
