Happy 21st anniversary to the beginning of Buffy! I didn't get my #SHIELD100 vid finished in time, but I managed to meet this anniversary.
This is pretty simple, but I just wanted to take the time to explore that constant battle in Buffy, the dichotomy between what her life is and what it ought to be. I got to use some scenes and quotes that I never normally use, so this was really fun!

“Buffy Summers?”
“Miss Summers?”
“There isn’t much time, you must come with me, your destiny awaits.”
“I don’t have a destiny, I’m destiny-free, really.”
“Oh, why can’t you people just leave me alone?”
“Because you are the Slayer.”
“You are the Chosen One, you alone can stop them.”
“Who?”
“The vampires.”
“Why don’t you kill them?”
“A Slayer slays, a Watcher-”
“Watches?”
“Yes - no! H-he trains her, he prepares her.”
“Prepares me for what? For getting kicked out of school? For losing all of my friends? For having to spend all of my time fighting for my life and never getting to tell anyone because I might endanger them? Go ahead, prepare me.”
“Well, it stops now!”
“No, it doesn’t stop. It never stops! D-do you think I chose to be like this? Do you have any idea how lonely it is, how dangerous? I would love to be upstairs watching tv, or gossiping about boys, or, god, even studying! But I have to save the world, again!”
“I don’t even get why you care about Homecoming when you’re doing stuff like this?”
“Because this is all I do. This is what my life is.”
“You are the Slayer, lives depend upon you!”
“Everybody’s looking to me, trusting me to lead them, and I’ve never felt so alone in my entire life.”
“Buffy, you have to get up! We need you!”
“And that’s you, every day, isn’t it?”
“I could pick up a yearbook some day and say I was there, I went to high school, I had friends, and for one moment, I got to live in the world.”
“You have a sacred birth right, Buffy. You’ve been chosen to destroy vampires not to wave pom-poms at people.”
“And it’d be proof - proof that I was chosen for something other than this.”
“Maintaining a normal social life as a Slayer, i-it’s problematic at best!”
“I will still have time to fight the forces of evil, okay? I just wanna have a life! I wanna do something normal, something safe.”
“Clark Kent has a job, I just wanna go on a date!”
“I was afraid of this.”
“Well, I wasn’t. It’s my first day! I was afraid that I was gonna be behind in all my classes, that I wouldn’t make any friends, that I’d have last month’s hair! I didn’t think there’d be vampires on campus. And I don’t care!”
“Then why are you here?”
“I don’t care!”
“I quit.”
“If Dawn dies, I’m done.”
“It’s not that simple.”
“I’m making it that simple!”
“I’m quitting.”
“I quit! I resign! I-I’m fired! You can find someone else to stop the Master from taking over.”
“I’m not sure that anyone else can.”
“How’d you do that?”
“It’s what I do.”
“But y-you’re just a girl.”
“That’s what I keep saying.”
“I’m starting to feel like being the Slayer is turning me into stone. To slay, to kill, it means being hard on the inside. Maybe being a perfect Slayer means being too hard to love at all.”
“You think we haven’t all seen this before?”
“I’m sorry!”
“The part where you just cut us all out? Just step away from everything human and act like you’re the law?”
“We are not talking about this.”
“Yes, we bloody well are!”
“I guess I’m starting to understand why there’s no ancient prophecy about a Chosen One and her friends.”
“My life happens to, on occasion, suck beyond the telling of it.”
“Giles, I’m sixteen years old.”
“Sometimes more than I can handle.”
“I don’t wanna die.”
“It’s always complicated, and at some point, someone has to draw the line, and that is always going to be me! Y-You get down on me for cutting myself off but in the end, the Slayer is always cut off. There’s no mystical guidebook, no all-knowing Council, human rules don’t apply! There’s only me. I am the law.”
“I’ve always cut myself off from others. I’ve always - Being the Slayer made me different, but it’s my fault I stayed that way. People are always trying to connect to me, and I just slip away.”
